The Asian continent: Part 2

Southeast Asia is very unique in

many ways. I am fascinated by their cultures, people, the land, etc. This includes
the very well-known places of Vietnam and the Philippines, and also Indonesia,
Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and Burma. The largest amount of immigrants
in the U.S. from Southeast Asia in our area of NOVA/DC/Maryland, are Vietnamese,
and Filipino. I went to school with quite a number of Filipino-American kids in
Springfield, VA. Some were biracial, with a Filipino mother and white-American
father. There were also some Vietnamese kids as well. Vietnam is especially wellknown because of the Vietnam War, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War, in
which many Americans went and fought.
I have worked with many Filipinos at Walmart, especially at the Burke Walmart
where I work. A few, such as Nestor and Racquel have become my friends. I can
usually recognize Southeast Asian people when I see them. I can instantly
recognize Vietnamese and Filipinos, when I hear them speak in English or in their
own languages. Filipino culture, is very very unique, a mixture of Spanish and
Southeast Asian cultures.

There are a special group of dances that are unique to Southeast
