Little Superhero Me.

By, Angela1008.

"The Third Affirmative has concluded the argument for the side of the Proposition. Third
Negative from Opposition, you are now holding the floor."

I sat back down in my seat at the edge, placing my notes on the cold, smooth surface of the
table. We managed to whip up a few amazing rebuttals, and it should be interesting to see
how the Opposition side was going to answer, as well as summarize their poor excuse of a
case.

Oh, did I mention that I was in debate practice?

Well, now I have, so there.

My classes had finished a few hours ago, and the debate teacher held auditions in one of the
classrooms earlier. Thank the gods, I passed the audition (easily, I might add) to make up the

three students in the first-choice school team. We were now practicing for the inter-school
competition next month.

I leaned back in my wooden chair and sneaked a glance at the guy sitting next to me, the
Second Affirmative. Dan. He caught my eye and grinned, sending me a sly wink. I rolled my
eyes in return.

The Third Negative sat down, and the Chairperson closed the debate.

"I'm going to, er, buy a drink," Dan immediately cut in, and practically jumped off his seat to
dash out of the classroom.

My thoughts strayed to my best friend, Remy, and I wondered what he was doing now. He
had mentioned that he was staying back in school to complete some Chemistry
assignment. My gaze settled on the pair of silver bracelets that he gave me as a gift a few
years back. I wore them every day, simply because I believed that they meant good luck.

Actually, I could go up to the roof and see him right now, if he was there.

Okay, allow me to track back a few years. So, one awesome day after school, we had found
(purely by accident) a door which led to the roof of the school, which was great. It meant
peace and solace, since no one even noticed the door, much less opened it. It was locked, too,
but Remy solved that problem by creating a makeshift key using some pieces of metal. That's
just what he does.

I slipped out of the classroom silently.

After climbing flights of stairs, I finally reached the highest floor. I walked over to a small
door in the corner of a corridor and stepped in, careful not to let my starry-blue skirt get stuck
in the heavy door.

Soft footsteps sounded, and I froze.

The room was dark, but there was another figure in the room too, rummaging through Remy's
schoolbag, which was tossed in the corner. I crept up to him, preparing to scream his name
and surprise him.

Just as I opened my mouth, the figure stood up abruptly, and I stepped back, my eyes wide.
The figure wasn't as tall as Remy. Why, it wasn't him at all.

The shadowy person held a small box in their hand. He - at least, judging by the silhouette of
his hair and figure - opened the box, and an object glittered, nestled in the red velvet inside. It
was a beautiful tiara, simple, yet elegant. It glowed silver, and a red stone in the centre
glowed faintly. There was a note in the middle of the box, which read, 'To Deb. From, Remy.'

The figure snapped the box shut, and placed it back. He turned around and I ducked, just in
time to avoid his searching gaze.

I sidestepped him as he walked to the ladder at the side of the room and began scaling it, only
halting slightly to test the wooden rungs. I rolled my eyes as I watched him. The ladder was a
stable one.

He pushed open the trapdoor at the top, letting the bright light from the sky lighten the room.
My reflexes kicked in and I climbed up after him, hoisting myself up to the roof with ease.

"Remy," the figure said to someone sitting at the edge of the roof, his legs dangling over the
side.

Remy turned around to face him, his eyes widening in surprise. "Dan, hey! What are you
doing here? How did you even find this place, dude?"

My jaw almost dropped. I thought Dan had gone to buy his drink! Why was he here, talking
to Remy? I didn't even know they knew each other!

"Erm, I need to ask you something," Dan said nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.
"About Deb."

I raised an eyebrow from where I was 'hiding'.

"Okay, ask on."

"Well, I was wondering if you'd mind if, you know, I ask her out. Like, on a date," he spilled
out quickly. "I mean, since you're her best friend, I thought it would be better if-"

"No."

Dan looked shocked. "No?"

"I can't let you. You're not asking her out." Remy's voice held a slight note of warning.

"Why not?"

Remy sighed, his eyes downcast. "I just... I'm sorry, dude, but I just can't tell you."

"Then, can you tell me?"

I stepped forwards, glaring at Remy and Dan. Well, mostly directed at Remy.

A guilty look crossed his face as he stood up, brushing his jeans. "I can explain, Deb."

"Explain, then!"

He took a deep breath. "You... have a responsibility, an obligation that you have to fulfill."

My eyebrows knitted together. "What are you saying, Rem?"

"Themyscira, home of the Amazons. Your home."

"You're crazy, dude! Don't listen to him!" Dan shouted out of nowhere.

"No, wait." I held up a hand, the words floating in my head. It did sound familiar.
"Amazons?"

"Yes," he said gently. "You're starting to remember. That's why I gave you the bracelets, right
when your strength was beginning to grow. To control your powers."

I shook my head, but memories of an island popped up. Beautiful, breathtaking. Grecian
buildings...

"The tiara from your bag?" I asked.

"To stop telepathic attacks from... your enemies."

"Wait... So, you're only telling me all of this now?"

He backed up, realizing that my tone was growing dangerously soft. "I'm sorry, Deb, but you
weren't ready for the truth yet."

"I wasn't ready?" I said incredulously. "Who are you to even judge that I wasn't ready to
know who I am?"

"Your brother."

"WHAT?!"

"Well, not in this life!" He closed his eyes for a moment. "You have had three incarnations of
which I know. In your first one, you were my sister, Danielle. In the next, you were Princess
Diana of Themyscira. And now, you're... Deb."

I wanted to contradict him, to tell him that it wasn't true, that he was crazy, but the flood of
emotions rushed through me. I remembered.

"I was the champion of the Amazons," I murmured. "I was... a superhero."

"Yes, you were," Remy returned. "And now, it is time for you to return to your
responsibilities. A new life, but the world is still in danger, as it always is."

"But What if I don't want to?"

"You have to! You were given these powers for a reason," Remy insisted, his handsome
features contorted in sudden confusion. He didn't expect things to turn out this way. "You
have to save the world."

"What's the point?" I shrugged, chillingly calm now. "To die and to be reincarnated again, to
'save the world' for the rest of my life? Or should I say, lives?"

I unclasped the bracelets from my wrists, and they clattered to the ground. Immediately, I felt
strength course through me. "All fairy tales need a good old-fashioned villain, after all."

"No! You can't! You have a kind heart, a gift from Aphrodite!"

"I may be Wonder Woman still, but I'm not exactly Diana anymore," I grinned wickedly. "Nor
am I your sister, dear Remy. Just because Ive found out that Im a superhero doesnt mean
that Im going to stay one. And now, I'm afraid your time is up. See you in the next life. Or
maybe not."

With superhuman speed, I crashed into Remy elbow-first. He toppled over, and with a
surprised cry, fell off the roof, all the six stories down.

I turned to Dan, who, all this time, had been watching in the shadows. "You remember who
you were, too."

He nodded, smirking at me. "Of course. I always have."

"And? Are you still on the side of the angels?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Times have changed, Deb," he said. "But we have always thought alike, no?"

I smiled up at him, relieved. "We need new names, though."

"I think Wonder Woman and Aquaman still suit us, don't they?"

I shrugged, and then wrapped my arms around his neck. "Of course they do. I remember how
I missed you, when I was Diana."

He hugged me back. "Likewise."

After a while, we broke apart, and I stared into his sea-green eyes, grinning.

"It's finally time to take over the world, the right way."
