RESOLUTION DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CITY OF OAKLAND


GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2014
WHEREAS, pursuant to law and Section 1101 of the Charter of the City of Oakland, a General
Municipal Election was duly and regularly held in the City of Oakland on Tuesday, November 4,
2014; and
WHEREAS, the Alameda County Registrar of Voters has prepared and submitted a certified
statement of the results of said General Municipal Election; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 1105 of the Charter of the City of Oakland, the ballots in the
races for Mayor, Councilmember of District 2, Councilmember of District 6, and School Director
of District 4 were tabulated using Ranked Choice Voting because no single candidate received a
majority in the first round of voting; and
WHEREAS, the results stated below in the races for Mayor, Councilmember of District 2,
Councilmember of District 6, and School Director of District 4 reflect the final tally after the
Ranked Choice Voting tabulation was conducted; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk has canvassed the election returns of said General Municipal
Election pursuant to law; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk has certified the results for the General Municipal Election; and
WHEREAS, California Elections Code Section 15400 provides that the governing body shall
declare the results of each election under its jurisdiction as to the persons elected and the
measures voted on at the election; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED: That the City Council orders and declares the results of the canvass of the returns
of said General Municipal Election to be as follows:

office are hereby declared elected to said office and shall assume the duties of that office on

FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council hereby determines and declares that the
canvass of the returns of said General Municipal Election shows that the total number of ballots
cast at the General Municipal Election was 105,439 (47.7%), and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Clerk is hereby ordered to issue certificates of
election to all persons herein declared elected; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED: That the City Council orders and declares that the Official
Canvass Summary report on file in the Office of the City Clerk, containing the number of votes
cast at each precinct for each candidate and for and against each measure, be and is hereby
adopted.
