A. Medium of Painting
The medium of painting is a complex of materials
that tend to be various paints and the surfaces which
receive and support them and its conventions are "usages"
of those materials. But isn't fixed and final. It changes,
albeit slowly. This development is brought about by
changes in materials and in the conventions that govern
their use. Thus, the medium can't be considered apart from
its history, and that history is affected by materials and their
uses.
