Subject: Help with removing apartment units that are related to crime, guns and drug sales
Hello,
000003
I would like to inquire about legal assistance to remove tenants from our building
that we know have gang, drug, prostitution and criminal activity in them. We are
currently working with the Oakland Police Department and Code Enforcement to fix
the building up as we just purchased it in July 2013.
We are runnig into the problemm that the building had been taken over by a drug
gang. The Oakland PD has been very helpful but they can not be there 100% of the
time. When the police are not around, they come in and vandalize the units we have
just fixed up. More importantly is that they are intimidating our workers trying to fix
the building up by beating them and pistol whipping them. The crazy thing is they
all carry guns and are not afraid to flash them to our workers. So we have had a few
contractors and their workers quite as a result.
The Oakand PD has suggested that we clear out the entire building and we tried this
tactic but the units we know are the ones that are bringing in criminals used the
services of the EDC and so we could not get them out. The sad part is that these
units are using their parents as the ones on the lease so we could not get them out
but yet the kids are the ones that are coming in and brining in their gangster friends
and using one of the units to sell drugs out of. When we call the police, they say
that they are visiting and we could not do anything. Then at night they vandalize
the building writing threatening messages like snitches will get theirs and telling the
workers that something big is going down if they don't quite.
Are there any legal rememdies we can take to get these people out? We would love
to put in cameras to catch these people but anything that resembles a listening
device or camera is destroyed by these people as they are paranoid.
Is there anything we can do to evict these people based on the fact that they bring
criminals over to our building? I believe the owner prior to us might have had
contact with the Oakland City Attorney but she came down with cancer and
eventually just gave up fighting these bad tenants an sold the building.
Our goal is to provide a home for good tenants. Since we took over the building in
July, we have been working with the Code Enforcement to fix the building up so that
it will be good for the tenants, neighborhood, and City. Our only problem are the
two tenants whom we know have criminal and gang activity ties that are bringing
the criminal element to the building yet we can not do anything about it.

If you can help us to get these people out legally, we would be more than greatful.
We can provide police reports and start documenting necessary police activity in
which ever way possible to help our case. Any guidance and help woud be again
greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Diana could you please make out a w/o and forward a.s.a.p? Someone at this location dumped toxic roofing material from an old roof
into the creek.
Craig, Lesley, Kristen, David, & Jesse I need the City's help! This is one example of on -going illegal dumping into the Creeks of
Oakland. I am willing to work with anyone at the City that is willing to help me take a proactive approach in dealing with property
owners.
By the way the property owner across the creek on Seminary Ave. also dump mattresses and other household items into the Creek.
This is an on -going problem at this location.
Thanks.
