Computer Applications II
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, and 12 One-semester program
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Computer Applications II is a one semester course that encompasses advanced competencies to strengthen skills in solving more
complex business problems through applications in word processing, database management, spreadsheet analysis, and
presentation/multimedia production. Students utilize Microsoft Office 2007 which includes Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, to
complete integrated computer activities and produce professional-looking documents. Students also further explore, research, and
communicate via the Internet.
RATIONALE
The computer is an integral part of our society in that it is the primary tool used in accomplishing personal, academic, and business-related
tasks more efficiently. Computer technology skills are essential in producing various types of documents in a variety of formats. Through
the use of word processing, letters, forms, reports, announcements, and memos are created everyday. Spreadsheet software is used to
track personal and business budgets, create loan payment schedules, and calculate grade point averages. Database management is
instrumental in storing and manipulating data in address books and in retrieving it for mail merge. Research is conducted through the
Internet and results demonstrated in multimedia presentations. Acquiring advanced computer skills in a variety of applications is
necessary to the future success of today’s students.
GRADUATE GOALS
To function as economically literate citizens through the development of personal consumer economic skills, awareness of social and
governmental responsibility and an understanding of business operation
To demonstrate interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills necessary to function in multicultural business settings
To select and apply tools of technology as they relate to personal and business decision making
To manage data from all of the functional areas of business needed to make wise management decisions
To communicate effectively as writers, listeners, and speakers in social and business settings
To develop career awareness and related skills in order to make viable career choices and become employable in a variety of business
settings
