ATM & Money Changers:

ATM machines are located in most convenient stores around Bali. They
allow for withdrawals between 1,000,000Rp - 3,000,000Rp at one time.
Please be aware that ATMs in Bali give you your cash first, and youre your
card, so be mindful when going to an ATM not to walk away without your
card. Money changers are abundant as well. Please be careful when
changing your money! Always re-count the money after they have, and do
NOT let them handle the money again after you are satisfied with your
personal count.
Money changers are notorious for slipping bills out of
the count before handing the client their change. That said, we endorse the
BMC Bank money changing station, located on Jln. Raya Taman
Basangkasa, in Seminyak. Ph. 0361 736519, they are commission free and
highly reputable. Please see map for exact location. We can also arrange for
the money changer to come to the Villa, simply ask one of the staff.

developing her passion for Asian cuisine through language and travel.
Samantha enjoyed a long career in hospitality in her hometown of Melbourne where she founded her unique
food and health business in 1990, had regular weekly radio shows on 3AK and Kiss FM, and has run her
celebrated organic cooking school in Australia, Bali and Sri Lanka ever since.
With over 25 years experience in business Samantha, formerly an award-winning restaurateur, learnt her most
recent lessons working in private practice as a therapeutic chef and clinical nutritionist, and at premiere
retreats such as Gwinganna in Queensland. Samantha is in demand nationally and internationally for her
organic cooking school, corporate cooking demonstrations, kitchen keynote seminars and public speaking.

Types of Yoga Practices:

HATHA YOGA - Hatha Yoga is the term applied to a vast body of practices geared toward self realization
through perfecting the relationship of body mind and spirit.
IYENGAR YOGA - Iyengar yoga is the yoga style that for some 65 years, the yoga master B.K.S.Iyengar
researched, developed and brought to yoga. It is deeply scientific emphasizing the integration of the body mind
spirit connection. Also it is rooted firmly within the eight limbs of yoga as espoused by Patanjali in his Yoga
Sutras.
Iyengar yoga lays strong emphasis on the accuracy of the postures believing that alignment of the skeletal body
brings alignment throughout the whole physical body - and further benefits the emotional and mental bodies
as well.
It was mainly due to the intensive research that went into this yoga style that the growth of many props such as
blocks, belts, bricks and blankets were brought in to help the beginner, the infirm and out of condition
students. It certainly has allowed many who have come to yoga to gain confidence in what may initially be
perceived as impossible yoga positions.

ASHTANGA YOGA - Ashtanga Yoga is a yoga style that has been brought to great prominence through the
teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. From around 1948 Pattabhi Jois's teachings have disseminated this yoga
system to many students and teachers.
Ashtanga Yoga literally means 'eight limbed' yoga and adheres to Patanjali's eight limbs of yoga as set out in his
Yoga Sutras. These eight limbs are such a common basis to a yoga practice it is worth listing them:
Yama (moral codes)
Niyama (self-purification and study)
Asana (posture)
Pranayama (breath control)
Pratyahara (sense control)
Dharana (concentration)
Dhyana (meditation)
Samadhi (contemplation and bliss state)

It is through the combination and co-ordination of breathing and movement (Vinyasa) that the internal
cleansing takes place. The other important incorporation in Ashtanga is Tristhana, which refers to the union of
three points of attention - posture, breathing and the gazing point. The gazing point being the deep focus on the
work.

BIKRAM YOGA - This is one of the very vigorous yoga styles, created by Bikram Choudhoury, who brought
his interpretation of the classical yoga posture routines to the West Coast of America.
The idea behind it is, according to Bikram, to emulate the heat of the sub-continent by heating, often carpeted,
mirrored rooms to a temperature somewhere between 90 - 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Armed with a large towel, a
yoga mat and a mega mineral water bottle, the student sweats through the prescribed 26 classical Hatha yoga
postures that Bikram has sequenced.
The emphasis is very much on the physical workout and in most Bikram classes there is little or no discussion
as to the spiritual side of the practice.

KUNDALINI YOGA - For many centuries Kundalini Yoga was a well kept secret known only to initiates and
masters within the spiritual confines of one to one teaching and closed orders in India and Tibet. The power of
raising the Kundalini energy that resides within was considered too powerful, and if misused, too dangerous to
be given free access.
Kundalini yoga is one of the yoga styles that allow a non-stressful way of working to help promote flexibility,
energy, serenity and a sense of greater personal empowerment.
Through the use of chanting and Pranayama exercises along with yoga postures, the channeling and release of
the inherent Kundalini energy can be achieved. This allows the practitioner to move into a state of altered
consciousness, connecting to a mystical and profound level of spiritual awareness.

POWER YOGA - This powerfully invigorating yoga style was born out of the American interpretation of
Ashtanga Yoga. It is a definitively sweat producing, muscle - building powerful workout. It is not for gentle
yoga types and certainly those coming to it from a beginner's point would be well advised to be cautious about
throwing themselves into it without excellent instruction.
Unlike other yoga styles there is little or no pausing between yoga positions (postures) and thus it is an intense
aerobic workout routine. Many sports enthusiasts take to Power Yoga as its ability to balance opposing muscle
groups allows the alleviation of many sports pains and injuries.

SIVANANDA YOGA - This yoga style originates from the teachings of an Indian yoga master Swami
Sivananda, who having trained as a western doctor dedicated his life to promoting the benefits of yoga. His
disciple - Swami Vishnu-Devananda designed what now has become the Sivananda Hatha Yoga class and is
aimed specifically to be suitable for the western body and mind.
Sivananda yoga promotes a five pointed plan to health and happiness - that of proper exercise, breathing,
relaxation diet positive thinking and meditation.
The postures are based on the classical Hatha Yoga presentation and there is also a strong emphasis on mantra
chanting. The devotional form of yoga (bhakti) is practiced in this form.

A Brief History of Bali

Although there are no artifacts or records dating back to the Stone Age, it is believed that the first settlers in
Bali migrated from China around 2,500 BC, and by the Bronze era, around 300 BC, quite an evolved culture
existed in Bali. The complex system of irrigation and rice production, still in use today, was established around
this time.
History is vague for the first few centuries. A number of Hindu artifacts were been found dating back to the 1st
century (AD), which suggests that the main religion, around 500 AD, was predominantly Buddhist.
It wasn't until the 11th century that Bali received the first strong influx of Hindu and Javanese cultures. With
the death of his father around AD 1,011, Airlanggha, a Balinese prince, moved to east Java and set about
creating unity. Having succeeded, he then appointed his brother, Anak Wungsu, as ruler of Bali. During the
ensuing period there was a reciprocation of political and artistic ideas, and the old Javanese language, Kawi,
became the language used by the aristocracy.
With the death of Airlanggha, in the middle of the 11th century, Bali enjoyed a period of autonomy. This proved
to be short lived as in 1284; the East Javanese king Kertanegara, conquered Bali and ruled over it from Java. In
1292, Kertanegara was murdered and Bali took the opportunity to liberate itself once again. However, in 1343,
Bali was brought back under Javanese control by its defeat at the hands of Gajah Mada, a general in the
Majapahit, the last of the great Hindu-Javanese empires.
With the arrival of Islam in neighboring Java during the 15th century, a large number of courtiers, artists,
musicians and craftsmen fled to Bali. As such, the Balinese have always been creative.
With the spread of Islam throughout Sumatra and Java during the 16th century, the Majapahit empire began to
collapse and a large exodus of the aristocracy, priest, artists, and artisans fled to Bali. For a while Bali
flourished and the following centuries were considered the Golden Age of Bali's cultural history. The
principality of Gelgel, near Klungkung, became a major canter for the Arts, and Bali became the major power of
the region, taking control of the neighboring island of Lombok and parts of East Java.
The European Influence
The first Dutch seamen set foot on Bali in 1597, yet it wasn't until the 1800's that the Dutch showed an interest
in colonizing the island. In 1864, having had large areas of Indonesia under their control since 1700's, the
Dutch government sent the troops to northern Bali. In 1894, the Dutch sided with the Sasak people of Lombok
to defeat their Balinese rulers. By 1911, all the Balinese principalities had been defeated in battle, leaving the
whole island under Dutch control. After World War I, Indonesian Nationalist sentiment was rising and in 1928,
Bahasa Indonesia was declared the official national language.
During World War II, the Dutch were expelled by the Japanese, who occupied Indonesia from 1942 to 1945.
After the Japanese defeat, the Dutch tried to regain control of their former colony, but on August 17, 1945,
Indonesia declared its independence by (it's first) president, Sukarno. After four years of fighting and strong
criticism by the international community, the Dutch government finally departed, and in 1949, Indonesia was
recognized as an independent nation.

Balinese Boreh
120 minutes Rp. 500.000
Boreh is one of the oldest and most common herbal remedies in Bali. The popular function of boreh is to keep
the body warm during the rainy season. Boreh also promotes blood circulation. The spices and herbs that are
used in boreh work digestively and support the secretions of toxic substances, great for relieving muscles aches
and headache. In addition, the ingredients - like cloves and rice create softer skin. For this treatment you will
start with our Balinese massage, then follow with the boreh itself onto your body then leave it until its dry.
While waiting enjoy the acupressure facial and scalp massage to complete your relaxation.

Activities

With Bali being a vacationers paradise, there is so much to do and so

little time! If you find yourself needing a break from the surf, here are
some other suggested activities.

Horse Riding
The Bali Hrse riding centre is located within a 30 minutes drive from our Escape Haven villa. They offer
packages from the basic 1/2 hour rice paddy tour, a 2 hour beach tour, to an extensive 7 night trekking package.
It's a beautiful facility with riding arenas and proper stables. The rides are suitable for all skill levels. Inquire
with us for booking and pricing.

Local Dances
Dance is a huge part of the Balinese culture. Multiple performances occur throughout the island. We
recommend the Kecak or "Fire Dance" performed at Uluwatu Temple every evening at sunset, or the Barong
& Rangda Dance performed at multiple theatre locations every morning at 9.30. Inquire with us for booking
and pricing.

White Water Rafting

Spend a day on the Ayung River, guided by Sobek, the best rafting on the island. Their white water rafting ride
is safe, fun, and a breathtaking experience for the novice or advanced rafter. Inquire with us for booking and
pricing.

Stand up Paddling, Wake Boarding, and Kite Surfing

While we believe our instructors Frengki & Putu are the crme de la crme of surf instruction in Bali, alas they
do not branch into other water sports. That's where Wave Hunter comes in. With locations in Sanur and
Jimbaran, and pick up and drop off available, spend a day learning a new water sport, or honing your skills in a
sport you already enjoy. Please enquire with us for booking and pricing.

Snorkeling
Arguably one of the best sea life spots in Bali, youll experience the breathtaking white sand beaches and blue
seas of Padang Bai. A half day trip picks you up from our villa and takes you snorkeling with an experienced
guide followed by snacks at the beach and then transport back to Seminyak.

Personal Training
Our fabulous personal trainer, Jay, provides bespoke advice and workouts in our villa from the early hours in
the morning to late at night. Jay has a number of up to the minute workout techniques available to you from
boxing to TRX.

Tarot Reading
Our amazing tarot card reader comes to the villa every week and provides readings for anyone that wishes to
see her. Sylvia gives accurate and positive readings and is able to answer specific questions. Enjoy!

Balinese Healing
Our Balinese priestess, Iluh, comes from generations or healers and provides powerful healing sessions for
guests at the villa. Speak to staff for more information.

Private Yoga Classes with Adele

Private coaching sessions are a great way to fine tune your yoga practice with hands on adjustments
and personalised instruction. One on One yoga therapy sessions are designed individually to release unhelpful
conditioning and address specific physical, mental, or emotional issues. Yoga therapy works on the tenet of
principles not poses and differs from other forms of physical therapy in that it empowers you to actively
participate in your own healing. A therapeutic movement based practice is a powerful way to address acute or
chronic injuries and pain.

Private Breath work Coaching with Rachel

Breath work coaching is a simple yet effective tool to help you to move away from a stress pattern of breathing
and back to the natural, relaxed and uninhibited breath most of us felt as infants. This type of breathing
initiates an increase in body awareness that often leads to whatever physical, emotional and/or mental patterns
are currently preventing a full and easy life and full and easy breath. How a person lives and responds to their
life, and the reclamation of this open, relaxed breathing is crucial to recovering from the long-term effects of
stress-related living as well as offering new response patterns to the specific effect of dis-ease, imbalance and
trauma.
