Referendum on dues of the House Committee

Wednesday, 2010 February 03 20:39

2008 Spring election campaign statements support solution to inconvenience of feeding

quarters into laundry machines. Adam Zawadowski helps the House Committee
purchase a change machine that arrives 2008 May 2. It is currently installed in the
NGC Computer Cluster.
2009 GCHC considers options and estimates from University and MacGray for coin-
free laundry payment systems.
June 3: GCHC Approves $9750.00 to add card-swipe system to washers/driers.
October 20: GCHC learns of $150/mo. additional fee for card-swipe related
service, a significant cost compared to the $300/mo. paid in total for all the
laundry machines now.
2010 GCHC discusses making laundry free in return for doubling house dues.
January 5: Dean Montero states that issue should be included as a supplemental
question in spring elections, phrased for example like, “We are currently
exploring increasing the fees in order to supply free laundry for the GC: would
you agree with an increase if it would mean free laundry? If so, would you pay
$50 more for this? If not, what concerns prevent you from agreeing with an
increase?”

2010 February 3: Lorne Applebaum suggests gauging student interest in an Option C:

Would students be interested increasing annex dues, for example to $50/semester, in
return for free laundry? The idea would be to use the increase in the annex dues directly
to pay for the University, which services the Annex laundry facilities.
