LAN (Local Area Network)

In the 1940s there was a study in the United States who want to use a shared
computer device. In the year 1950 when the types of computers began to swell until the
creation of a super computer, because of high prices of computer equipment then there
are the demands of a computer must serve multiple terminals. From this it appears
distribution concept is based on a process known as TSS (Time Sharing System), the first
form of network (network) applied computer. In the TSS system several terminals
connected in series to a host computer.
Furthermore, this concept evolved into the distribution process. In this process some
of the host computer do a great job in parallel to serve multiple terminals that are
connected in series in each host komputer.Selanjutnya when prices have started to decline
ocaler small and distribution process concept has matured, then use ocaler and networks
have started a variety of began to handle the process along and communication between
ocaler (Peer to Peer System) without through ocaler center. For that began developing
ocal network technology known as LAN (Local Area Network). Similarly, when the
Internet was introduced, most of the LAN stand-alone begin to relate and formed a giant
network of world level are referred to as WAN (Word Area Network).
LAN stands for Local Area Network. In general. understanding LAN is a network in
which devices are combined hardware and software to be able to communicate in a
limited area. LAN was originally developed in the minicomputer, but rather popular after
the PC is widely used. With the LAN system, then some PCs that had been working on
their own, in the end can cooperate within certain limits, even with larger computer
systems. LAN become so popular because it can generally be used as office automation
equipment. LAN can also be connected to other networks, either via telephone cable,
wireless, satellite, and internet.
LAN network typically consists of: Server (computer server): servers within the
LAN are one or more computers using a server operating system. General server tasks is

to provide media-service stores and other services so that computers in the network can
be used either individually or jointly.
Client (client computer): Client is a computer that uses a client operating system (eg
Windows 7 or 8) and connected to the LAN.
Gateway: Gateway is a useful device over the network to communicate with other
networks.
As the name implies, the LAN can cover only a limited area of the area (local), for
example, in one building, one department or one campus. Because of its short distance
there, the speed of data transmission becomes very high. Data transmission medium used
in LAN cable is usually a untiran as well as being used on a telephone wire. LAN cable is
often called UTP cable.
LAN describes a network covering a limited area, for example, a single office
building, in which a computer that has a network of physically adjacent to each other.
LAN great example in an office complex or a company, can be separated into multiple
workgroup to further facilitate manejemennya. In this case, a workgroup made up of
users who do share the same resources, such as files, printers and application programs.
For example, on an enterprise LAN, you can create a workgroup for different
departments, such as sales, finance, human resources. The distance is approximately up to
10 km.
LAN is the advantage circuit:
1. Exchange files (file sharing)
2. The use of the printer can be done by all clients (printer sharing)
3. The data files can be stored on the server, so it can be accessed from any client
securities under the authorization of all employees, which can be made based on the
company's organizational structure so that data security is guaranteed.
4. The data file exit / entry from / to the server can be controlled
5. The process of backing up data quick and easy
6. The risk of data loss by computer virus becomes very small
7. Communication among employees can be done using email and chat.

LAN also can be defined as a network or a network of computer systems, which are
located inside the building is limited, a complex of buildings or a campus and not using
the common medium of communication facilities such as telephone, but the owner and
manager of communications media is the owner of the LAN itself.
From the above definition we can know that a LAN is limited by physical location.
As for the use of LAN itself lead to all computers connected in a network can exchange
data or otherwise related. This cooperation is growing from only the exchange of data
through the use of equipment together.
LANs generally use a hub, will follow the working principle of the hub itself. In this
case is that the hub does not have pengetahuantentang destination address so that
broadcast data delivery, and also because the hub has only one collision domain so that if
one of the busy port, the other ports must wait.
