IvealwaysdreadedonlineenrollmentduetothefactthatDLSUsenrollmentportalisunreliable
mostofthetime,andIdalwaysendupnotgettingintomyinitiallyplannedtimeslots.Itsounds
selfish,Iknow,butthereismoretoit,really.IamquitesurethatIamspeakinginbehalfofall
irregularstudentswhenIsaythatwherestudentslikemeendupduringonlineenlistmenthas
physicalandpsychologicaleffects.Itmayvaryfromstudenttostudentbutinmypointofview,
receivingafailingmarkisalreadyaheavyloadinitself.Waitingforeveryoneelsetobeableto
enlistfirstbeforeIcould(becauseIgota0.0)neverhelpedandinfact,onlyaddeduptomy
troubles.
Idoftenspend,atmost,anentiredayjusttobeabletofinishenlisting.Gettingpastthelogin
pagetookalotofmytime.AndbythetimeIgottotheenlistmentpage,mostoftheslotshad
alreadybeenfilled.Theonlyonesleft,ifany,wereeitherscheduledearlyinthemorningorlateat
night.

couldntbecauseofallthehomeworkduethenextday.Thiskindofroutineisnothealthy,andit
affectsastudentsperformanceinschool.

becausealltheotherslotswerefull.Anothersectionwasopenedforthatsubject,butitwaslater
dissolvedforsomeunknownreason.YoucouldjustimaginehownervousIwasforbeing

Inaway,theoldsystemremindedmeofthecourseIfailed.Duringmyfirstcoupleofyearsof
stayincollege,flunkingthisonecoursebotheredme.Insteadofconcentrating,Ispenttime
thinkingaboutsomethingthatIcouldntundo.Forme,itwasapunishment.Anundeservedone,
forthatmatter.
ThatiswhyIamforthenewsystem.Tosomeextent,itgetsridofdiscriminationandgives
everyoneanequalopportunitytoenlistandgetintotheclassesthathe/shewishestotakeat

his/herdesiredtimeslot.

Iama3rdyearAdvertisingmajor,andmostofmyterms
hereinDLSU,Ivebeena2ndhonorDeansLister.Eversince,Ivedreadedthefactthatonlythe
1sthonorDeansListersaretheonesprivilegedtohavetheiradvancedenrolment.Igetit,they
havethehighestgradesinDLSU,butitsjustunfairforus,whoarealsopartoftheDeansList,
thatwerenotadvantagedtogetanadvancedenrolment.Addingtothefactthattheonly
incentivewegetishavingunlimitedcutsforthesucceedingterm.
OnbehalfofthetheDLSUstudentswhoworkedhardandreachedthe2ndhonorDeansList,we
alsodeservetobeatleastdaysadvancethantheregularenrolment.Wehavereachedthe
desiredGPAforthatcertaintermandwedeservetoberecognizedandberewardedjustasthe
1sthonorDeansListers.Afterall,werealsocalledtheDeansListers,withgradesnotlower
than2.0andaGPAofatleast3.0.Anotherthingwouldbethefactthatweredaysaheadofthe
priorityandregularenrollees,reallyhelpsusalotinchoosingourschedule.Italsoletsus
experiencetheluxuryofhavingastressfreeenrolmentasourprizeorincentiveformakingitto
theDeansList.
Iamreallyforthiscurrentsystembecauseitlessensthespecialtreatmentforthe1sthonor
DeansListersanditseparatesusfromtherestofthestudentswhoexperiencethecrashingof
MLS.Thiscurrentenrolmentsystemisreallyfairformeanditsreallyabighelpforus.

nonstopfromstudentswhorageabouttheirenrollmentslotsandhowMLSalwayscrashes.If
youlookatit,itsnotreallyourfault.Weareherejusttooperatethesaidsystemandmakesure
thatItismaintainedproperly.Wedonthavethepowertopurchasenewserversjusttoincrease
thecapacityofthewebsitebecausethispowerresideswiththeboardoftrustees/directorsofthe
school.Inaddition,evenifweprovideanewsystem,thetransitionfromonesystemtoanother
canbedifficult,notonlyforusbutalsoforthestudents.

JustlookatwhathappenedtoAnimo.sys.Thatenrollmentperiodbroughtthemoststressnot
onlytothestudentsbutalsototheITSpeopleaswell.
Fromourstandpoint,proposinganewenrollmentsystemwhereinthetimeslotsarejust
adjustedbenefitsall.Throughcreatingnumeroustimeslotsforenrollment,thetrafficisspread
accordingly.Thus,thenumberofentrantstoMLSpertimeslotdecreases.Withthis,the
possibilityofoursystemcrashingisgreatlyreduced.Unliketheprevioussystemwhereinallthe

regularstudents(including2ndDL)andirregularstudentswereeachgivenadaytoenroll,the
newsystemprovidesthesestudents(excluding2ndDL)withjustonedayforenrollment.Howis
thisadvantageoustous?Weonlyhavetodealwithstudentscomplaintsforoneday:).Inthe
previoussystem,wegetalotofcallsfrombothregularandirregularstudentscomplainingabout
howMLSalwayscrashes.Notonlyisthisaverystressfulandirritatingmoment,butitalso

IknowthatbeingapartoftheDeansListisaprivilegeanditisonlyrightthattheygetapriority
enrollment,butbeingoneofthestudentsthatalsoexcelsinclass,althoughfailstoreachthe
GPAof3.000,Ialsoaskthatwehavefairlyampletimetoenroll.
Iamspeakingforallstudentsthathasworkedhardandmaintainedtheirtranscriptsfreefrom
0.0swhenIsaythatthisnewenrollmentsystemisunfair.Allstudentsenterthisuniversityas
equals.Thestudentsdecidewhethertheyworkhardandgethighgrades,studyandgetgood
grades,orstaycalmandhavethegradestheydeserve.Thosewhoexcelgetaprivilegefortheir
hardwork,whycantthosestudentsthatworkedhardbutwasntabletomeetexpectationsbe
givenaconsolation?
Iamagainstthisnewenrollmentsystembecauseofthelackoftimeassignedforregular,
irregularandreinstatedstudentswhileexcesstimeisgivenforDeansListerstoenroll.

Imalreadya3rdyearstudent,IfailedmysecondaccountingsubjectwhichisACTBAS2during
2ndyear,1stterm.IwassodisappointedandsadbecauseifIdidntfailitandIgot2.0Iwouldbe
a1stdeanslister.Itsmyfirsttimetofail,sowhenthedayofenlistmentcame,Iwassonervous
becauselasttermImstilladvanceenrollmentbutnowimonregularenrollment.Theresahuge
differentbetweenthetwo,regularenrollmentissohasslecomparedtoadvanceenrollment.ButI
cantremovethefactthatIcantbeadvanceenrollmentagain,theonlythingIcandoisgeta
grade3.0andabovewhenIretakethesubjectandIwillbereinstatedenrollmentwhichwillbe
onedayearlierthantheregularenrollment.SoIpromisedmyselfthatIwouldbereinstated
becauseIdontwanttoexperienceanotherhassleenlistment/enrollment.SothenexttermI
retookit,Ireallyputsomucheffortnotjusttopasseveryquizwhichhasagradeequivalentto

1.0andeventhefinalsbuttogetatleastagradeequivalentto2.5andabove.Attheendofthe
termIgot3.0soIwasreinstatedenrollmentduring3rdyear1stterm.

policy
IsharedmyexperiencesoyoucanseewhatIvebeenthrough.Mypointhereisthat,itwouldbe
unfairformeandtootherswhoexperiencethesamesituationbecauseweputsomucheffortto
getahighgrade,nottofailagainandanotherreasonistheenrollmentsystemwhichreinstated
studentsisonedayaheadcomparedtoirregularstudentswhichalsomeansthatmoresections
isstillopenduringthereinstatedenrollment.Thenewenrollmentdefeatsthepurposeof
reinstatedstudentsbecausewearenowmergedwiththeregularstudentssoitonlymeansthat
therearemorecompetitionforusreinstatedstudentsingettinginaclass.

HellomynameisBroJer.IvebeenaLasallianbrothersince2005andIvebeenassignedto
servehereinDLSUManilasince2009.ThroughoutmystayhereinDLSU,Ihavebecome
friendswithmanystudents,andofcourse,theyvesharedtheirstrugglesinpersonallives,
academics,eveninenrollment!Somesayitsdiscriminatory.OtherssayDLsgettoomuch
specialtreatment.AndIfeelfortheregularstudentsstruggleduringenrollmentespeciallythe
factthatyoureatwarwiththerestoftheschoolandthefactthattheserverneverfailstocrash.
ButasaLasallianbrother,IfirmlybelieveinthestatementLasallianachieversforGodand
country.IbelievethattheDLsdeservetheadvancedenrollment.Theyworkedhardforit.They
achievedit,especiallythereinstatedstudents.Theywereevenmoredeterminedtoexcelafter
theirfailure.Ibelievethatssomethingtoadmire.
Question:Whatarethenegativeeffectsofthecurrentenrollmentsystem?
However,withthisnewsystemofenrollmentwherereinstatedstudentsenrollWITHtherestof
thestudentbody,Idontthinkitgivesjusticetothem.Thissomehowaddstotheunfairnessof
theenrollmentschemewheretheDLsgetrewardedforexcelling,butthereinstatedstudentsdo
not!Howdoyouthinkthiswillencouragestudents,especiallythereinstated,tobelasallian
achievers?
Iwouldliketobepartofaninstitutionwherestudentsareencouragedtoachieve!ForGodand
country.
