MT. KANAMO EXPEDITION 2014 IN SPITI (5974 M) Learning Leadership through Expedition

We are pleased to inform that the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation will be organizing an Expedition to Mt. Kanamo
in SPITI (H.P) during August 2014. Mt. KANAMO, Base camp is situated at Kaza/ Kibber (the highest village in the
world). The Kibber Plateau is teeming with wildlife e.g. Blue sheep, Himalayan Ibex, Tibetan Wolves, etc.
is a non technical peak the expedition will focus more on planning, preparing & performing.
Since, Mt Kanamo being
Participants will be divided into small groups and they would have to do self cooking and carry their gears. However,
high altitude would be a big challenge and will require both Physical & Mental endurance.

Selection Criteria:
1) First Preference would be given to those who have done Basic Mountaineering Course.
2) Depending on the application received from s.no. 1, if seats remain, those who have completed the Outdoor
Leadership course Certificate organized by TSAF will be considered.
3) Those who have participated in earlier Expeditions organised by TSAF need not apply. This is for giving
opportunities to others to participant.
How to Apply:
Application stating the course undertaken and/or climbing experience is to be forwarded to Secretary, Tata Steel
Adventure Foundation, through Dept. Head. Application will be accepted on first come first served basis (from June
21 onwards) till 10 seats (7 Men 3 Women) are filled up. APPLICATIONS TO BE SUBMITTED AT TSAF OFFICE AT
JRD TATA SPORTS COMPLEX DURING OFFICE HOURS. A Caution Deposit of Rs 10000/- will be taken from the
selected candidate, to be refunded only after his/her full & active participation in the Expedition showing high
ethical standards and Discipline. Otherwise the deposit will be forfeited.
10 Rural Youth would be selected from rural communities for the Expedition in line with our CSR activities.
Fitness Test: The final team will be selected based on a fitness test to be conducted at DALMA Hill. Details of this will
be informed at the time of applying.
Special Leave:
As per the guidelines approved by Management Selected employees would be eligible for Special Leave for
undertaking the Expedition. The Expedition would be held from Aug 11 to Aug 25, including travel time.
The Himalaya is indeed one of the most stunning & demanding classroom..... Please enrol if you are upto the
challenge.
The Expedition will be accompanied by Ms. Bachendri Pal, Hemant Gupta- who has just returned from a 3 Month
Leadership Course from National Outdoor Leadership School USA & Rajendra Singh Pal, Everester 2012.
