Marking Scheme ENGLISH Communicative

General Instructions :
Please note that the questions are numbered in continuation from 1 to 15
1.

Marking of the entire script should be done by one teacher. All answers in all the scripts
should be marked section wise.

2.

In the Marking Scheme, a slash (/) indicates alternative answers; any one such answer
be counted as correct.

3.

Brackets ( ) indicate optional information ; the marks be awarded whether the part in
brackets is included or not.

4.

If a student writes an answer which is not given in the Marking Scheme but which is
equally acceptable, full marks be awarded.

5.

Students should not be penalized if they do not follow the order of the section/question
while answering.

6.

In questions requiring word limit, no marks be deducted for exceeding the word limit.

7.

The Marking Scheme carries only suggested value points for the answers. These are
only guidelines and do not constitute the complete answer. The students can have
their own expression and if the expression is correct marks should be awarded
accordingly.

8.

In case where no answers are given or answers are found wrong in this Marking Scheme,
correct answers may be found and used for valuation purpose.

(Reading - 20 Marks)

Under content, credit should be given for the candidates creativity in presenting ideas.
However, some of the following points may be included.

Infancy - man just born - enters the world - is dependent
A school going child - lazy, disinterested to work - studies - a burden
Lovers stage - man falls in love and suffers from pangs of separation - these are
inevitable
Soldiers stage - man works for honour and reputation - can risk his life too
Judge - man grows wise - is fashion conscious - indulges himself in food and
drink
Old age - universal - man becomes dependent - looks funny in his loose clothes
Senility - man on the verge of death - senses weakening - oblivious to the world
outside
The poem charts the course of a mans life

Note :

1.4 marks for content - eight value points to be included - half mark for
each value point
1.2 marks for expression as shown below :

2 marks - Effective organisation with very few errors.

1 mark - Some weaknesses in organisation; fairly frequent


language errors

0 mark - Poor organisation; many language errors
