DIRECTORATE OF PLANNING, STATISTICS AND EVALUATION

GOVERNMENT OF GOA
PANAJI-GOA

FOREWORD
An Indicator of Socio-Economic Development is one of the regular
publications of the Directorate of Planning, Statistics & Evaluation,
Government of Goa. This brochure contains important statistical indicators
as at the time of Goas Liberation in 1961, at the time of attaining Statehood
in 1987 and for the year 2010-11 .
The State was brought into the main stream of national development
through implementation of the Five Year Plans, soon after Liberation. The
wide array of Socio-Economic Indicators presented in the brochure will
enable users/readers to comprehend at a glance the impressive progress
registered by the State since liberation. It may be mentioned that the figures
for the pre-liberation period or immediately after liberation, relate to the
erstwhile Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu except where otherwise
indicated, while the figures for 1987 and 2010-11 relate to the State of Goa.
The valuable co-operation extended by the various departments of the
State Government, Local Bodies, Government of India and other
organizations in timely availability of the requisite data is gratefully
acknowledged.
The hard work put in by staff of the publication Division of this
Directorate in bringing out this brochure is also acknowledged.
. It is our endeavour to constantly improve the contents and quality of the
publication. Therefore, suggestions for improvement are welcome.
