Katowice, 17 February 2010 – More than 3500 guests, 400 panellists, more debates,
themes and congress locations, but most of all a large number of people
who have a significant influence on the European economy – the second edition
of the European Economic Congress (EEC) to be held this year is going to be the
largest business event in Central Europe. Substantive and organisational aspects
of the Congress will be supervised by the Organizational Committee – Patronage
Council, under the honorary chairmanship of Jerzy Buzek, current President of
the European Parliament.
“During the three days of sessions, the city of Katowice is going to add new quality to
European dialogue, becoming a place for exchanging views and experiences as well as of
debate for great personages of politics, business, science and economics. Business
meetings, unofficial talks, banquets, the congress café – between the 14th and 16th of April
the entire city will be vibrant with Congress-related activity,” said Wojciech Kuśpik, EEC
initiator and Chairman of the PTWP SA Group.
The issues to be analysed and discussed this year at the Congress include some of the most
significant problems of the global economy, the economic situation in Poland and in Europe,
as well as the possibilities of combating and, eventually, overcoming the financial recession.
The debate will also cover the climate package, the Polish presidency of the European Union
and the importance of innovation in the economy.
The number of guests, panellists, meetings and debate will be greater than last year;
consequently, the congress will be held in more locations. EEC 2010 sessions will take place
at the Katowice Academy of Music, the Silesian Voivodeship Office, the Regional Chamber of
Commerce, the Qubus, Monopol and Angelo hotels, as well as in the Biuro Centrum and
Organizer:
Euro-Center Science and Technology Park buildings. A congress café is also going to be set
up at the Qubus hotel especially for EEC participants.
Information about EEC 2010 will be available on Facebook, Twitter and Blip microblogs.
Participants of the first EEC held in April 2009 included the Polish Prime Minister Donald
Tusk and the European Commissioners Andris Piebalgs, responsible for energy policy,
Janez Potočnik, responsible for research and development, and Danuta Hübner the EU
regional policy coordinator. Other EEC 2009 participants included managers of some of the
largest European companies, as well as numerous representatives of the government,
including more than a dozen ministers. The First European Economic Congress was opened
by José Manuel Barroso – President of the European Commission via a multimedia
presentation.
