Overview:
The story takes place in Mercy Falls, a town located in Minnesota, where Grace Brisbane,
the main character lives. She, since the age of eleven, has always had an obsession with
wolves, especially with her wolf, the one with yellow eyes. Sam, Grace's wolf, stays
werewolf all of the year except a few days in summer when he has the opportunity to be a
human. The conflict begins when Grace and Sam finally meet, but Sam has to take a choice
that is to stay with Grace or on the other hand to live as a werewolf.
Personal opinion:
When I first began to read the book, I felt a mystery that led me to start the next chapter, so,
in that way I could discover and understand better the plot. In the first chapters I could feel
myself identified with Grace, the main character, who had always felt an incontrollable
attraction to wolves. Personally, I have always admired the rare beauty of these animals and
they have always made me feel a mystery for them. However I dont feel completely
identified with Grace because She is a fearless person and Im not.
Now talking specifically of the book, I think that is a good, but repeated plot. Nowadays
every teenage author writes about wolves, and it might be a good topic and drama for a
book but it is important to consider that a repeated idea looses his strength. Also its
important to tell that Stiefvater, at the beginning of the book, always maintains the mystery
and this helps to keep on reading it. However too much mystery and too much description
sometimes makes the book boring and slow.
One of the best aspects that made the story good, was the encounters that Grace and Sam
had when he was still a werewolf. This was the best part of the book because it was

amazing how Stiefvater described the feelings in Sam and Graces points of view; this also
made the romance alive between them.
Finally thinking on all of the characteristics and peculiar conditions that Shiver had, I think
that it was a good book because although you think (at the beginning) it was a very
predictable book, it wasnt because you never knew how it would end.
Final comments:
Last thing I would like to say is that I recommend this book to another person, but within a
specific age. Suitable for 13 to 16 years old girls. This will be the perfect age because the
book has a lot of fiction, but also romance that teens love; for this reason Im utterly
convinced that teenagers might not only like the story, but also they may get immersed once
they begin to read it. It would be impossible for them to stop.
