Copperconstantan(coppernickelalloy)forrangeof200to400C
Ironconstantanfortemperaturerangeof40to+750C
Chromealumel(alloyofnickel,manganese,aluminiumandsilicon)fortemperaturerangeof200to
+1350C.

atdesiredlocationslikeexhaustmanifoldetc.Theoneendofthethermocoupleisplacedinhotjunction
andotherendiskeptinaconstantcoldjunction.Thesematerialsareledtoatemperatureindicator
throughamplifierandcompensatorlead.Theamplifierandcompensatorlead(normallymadeupof
copperanddosenoteffectthecircuit)helpsintransmittingtheoutputtoaremotelocation.
Principle&Working
ThermocoupleworkswiththeprincipleofseebeckeffectwhichstatesthatTemperaturebetweentwo
dissimilarmetalsinacircuitconvertsintoelectriccurrent
Whentwodissimilarmetalwiresjoined,supposeironandconstantan,arecoupledtogetherand
exposedtodifferenceintemperatureatboththeends,thenemfisgeneratedandcurrentflowsfromhot
tocoldside.
Themagnitudeofthecurrentdependsonthetemperaturedifferencebetweenthejunctions.
Ifonejunctioniskeptatconstanttemperature,thenthevalueoftemperaturefortheotherjunctioncan
beeasilydetermined.
