Fuel Oil for Chana Combined Cycle Power Plant Project

Technical Document

When permitted as specified herein, solid wires shall be spliced by twisting the conductors
together and soldering with 50-50 solid solder and nonacid flux. When permitted as
specified herein, stranded wires shall be spliced using a properly sized uninsulated
compression connector using a calibrated crimping tool designed to crimp the connector.
The connector shall not release from the conductor when pulled or twisted. A compression
connection installed underground shall additionally be soldered before insulation and
burial.
Splices shall be insulated after inspection by EGAT.
Routing
Unless indicated otherwise in this specification, lead wire and cable shall be installed at a
minimum of 1 meter below grade. Where lead wire is connected to pipe, to anodes, or to
field test stations, the minimum of 450 mm of slack shall be left in the lead wire to permit
settling of the backfill without stressing the electrical connection.
Field Test Stations
Field test stations shall be installed at locations as specified herein.
Where it is not practical to locate field test stations directly over the pipe it is connected to
because of interference with the normal use of the area, field test stations shall be located
nearby, in relatively protected locations, in fence rows or adjacent to manholes, or similar
structures where they will experience minimum chance of damage and provide minimum
interference with normal use of the area in which they are installed.
The minimum of one field test station shall be provided for each electrically isolated
segment of piping designated to receive cathodic protection. Piping segments greater than
150 meters in length shall have a minimum of one additional field test station for each
additional 150 meters of length or fraction thereof.

Piping Isolation
Flange insulating kits shall be installed in pipe flanges, and insulating unions or couplings
shall be installed on piping as specified herein. In addition, the Contractor shall
electrically isolate, as required, any connecting piping and equipment, reinforcing steel,
structural steel, the station grounding system, and other buried piping from piping
designated to receive insulated fittings.
Bolting at insulated flanges shall consist of studs and nuts with sufficient stud length to
allow at least one full stud thread protruding through each nut. Sleeves shall extend into
the insulating washers.
Unless specified herein to be installed underground, all insulated fittings shall be installed
above grade or inside underground vaults or manholes. Sufficient clearance around the
fitting shall be provided to permit easy access for maintenance and testing. Any insulated
fittings installed underground shall be installed with a field test station as directed by
EGAT.
