Talent Development Representative, Secretary and Founding Member. She headed the Art Clubs Tshirt committee during the Colleges inaugural Arts Festival Farrago, and performed multiple roles
of make-up artist, crew and usher while fulfilling her duty as Vice-President and Publicity Head in the
English Literary, Dramatic and Debating Society, which acquired a commendable Silver Award in the
2008 Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging for Drama. Outside College, she was a docent for a
minister from Timor Lesti at the art and design exhibition Colours of Southeast Asia (2006)

talents to the fullest, in a positive and constructive way. With her eloquence, confidence, intelligence
and kindness, BCD is a versatile individual who adapts easily to any situation, and will be an asset

APPENDIX 5 (IP)
GGG
Identification No. S0909090B
Class of 04IP05
GGG was admitted to National Junior College (NJC) in January 2005, to pursue a 4-year
Integrated Programme (IP).
GGG shows an exceptional understanding of the true spirit of knowledge integration. Curious
about the world around him, catholic in his intellectual tastes, his pursuit of knowledge is his
personal quest for truth. He never allows himself to be restricted by the prescribed syllabus
nor cowed by the constant demands of assessments and examinations. This confidence in his
right to grow intellectually and work at getting a true understanding of the world, at times
takes him off the beaten path but he always manages to find his way and reassure the
authorities of his ability to work the established path while exploring and establishing his own.
After two years at NJC, GGG had the dubious distinction of being noticed by the Head of
Science as a curiosity - a top Science student who was also a top Arts student. GGG holds
the prestigious Ministry of Education (MOE) Pre-University Scholarship, which recognises
academic excellence, and the equally sought after A*STAR JC Science Award, which
identifies and rewards young talent in the field of science. In 2006, he was selected by MOE
to attend the Aerospace Camp in China and in 2007, the International Space Camp in the
United States. In what seems to be an all-inclusive interest in space, he selected to do an H3
Geography university module: Economy and Space. His team won First Prize in the 2007
United Nations Association of Singapore Essay Competition and he achieved third placing in
the National University of Singapore Geography Challenge. The ease with which he moves
between these apparently widely divergent spaces is instructive.
GGG has long had an interest in epistemology. A 3-year attachment to a research institute has
equipped GGG with strong research skills and a sound grasp of the scientific method. His
attendance at talks organised by various national institutes of policy studies, has kindled an
interest in leadership, governance and public policy. He often used the skills acquired in one
area to challenge and reconsider the received wisdom of the other. GGG has good observation
and conceptual skills. Perceptive, sensitive, patient and watchful, he manages to discern
subtle shadings and linkages in the world. He has a gift for identifying patterns, making sense
of them and moving them about, applying them to different spheres. His ability to manipulate,
stretch and bend ideas seems to give him a great deal of pleasure and supplies him with a rich
inner life. He is enthusiastic about sharing his views with his peers and his contributions,
invariably raising the intellectual tone, and adding to the richness of class discussions. He
thrives on discourse and debate.
In 2006, GGG served as Secretary for the NJC Inaugural Leadership Symposium and engaged
in dialogue with prominent politicians and civil servants. Unlike many other student
participants, his engagement did not end with there. He found opportunities to work with
various political leaders in their constituency to help serve the community and to give himself
a better understanding of things. His leadership roles were as President of the Talent
Development Club, group leader in an International Service Learning Project to Vietnam and
Chairperson of the 2008 Leadership Symposium. As in all he undertakes, he brought his own
style and personality to his role as leader. In temperament and upbringing, he is inclined to
understatement. His belief in respect and empowerment, dissent and discussion, allowed his
teams to explore, develop and grow. GGG is clear and confident when setting goals and
9

direction, but he is always respectful of individual differences. This creates a climate of

sharing, a tolerance for risk and a high level of trust.
GGG has been a joy to work with and teach. Kind, considerate, without affectation and
possessing a wonderful sense of humour, he is loved and respected by his peers and teachers
who have witnessed his development over the years, from a shy, diffident, hesitant young
man to one who is self-assured, confident and mature. It is not just his intellectual integrity,
his moral clarity and deep sense of duty to his community and country, that makes him
distinctive and valued, it is also his simple and determined quest for the truth.

APPENDIX 6 (IP)
XYZ
Identification No. S0102030B
Class of 06IP01
XYZ was admitted to National Junior College in January, 2006, to pursue the 4-year Integrated
Programme (IP).
XYZ was the recipient of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Junior College Award (2008), the
Singapore Police Force Book Prize (2008), the A*STAR Junior College Award (2007-08)and the
Ministry of Education Pre-University Scholarship (2007-08). The number and diversity of the
academic awards attained are indicative of his versatility and ability. He is able to grasp most concepts
with ease and he exhibits intellectual inquisitiveness, frequently seeking additional information
concerning topics outside the syllabus. Systematic and analytical in solving challenges, he often
provides considerably unique solutions.
XYZs many interests and strengths are reflected through multiple and wide-ranging co-curricular
activities. Besides representing the College in both Softball and Floorball, he was also a member of the
Information Technology (IT) Club. He showed that he was able to apply his knowledge effectively to
solve real world problems by creating the best solution which won him the top prize in the InfoComm
Development Authority-Singapore Management University Innovate IT competition.
XYZ also had a two-year research stint at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE).
The research was presented at two international forums: the London International Youth Science
Forum, as well as the Ritsumeikan Super Science Fair in Japan in 2007. The two projects dealt with
more efficient Field-Effect-Transistors (FETS), and improvement to Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect
Systems. The Bronze and Merit Awards earned at the 2007 and 2008 Singapore Science and
Engineering Fairs were indicative of the level of research, effort and determination he put in. With the
weeks spent overseas, his world view was undeniably broadened.
XYZ has in-depth experience in organising events. He was part of the organizing committee for
numerous College events such as the inaugural Singapore International Science Challenge 2007
(SISC), Leadership Symposium (LS), and the inter-JC Dialogue session TerrorismSearching Within
(TSW). The events forced him to show resourcefulness, resource-management as well as logistical
skills. His time management skills were also honed. Most importantly, he increased his proficiency in
working with other people -- be it leading his team in achieving aims, or working with external
agencies to ensure the success of the event. For example, in the TSW and LS, he collaborated with the
Ministry of Home Affairs for sponsorships and aid. SISC placed him with close proximity with people
from various countries. His ability to interact and work with people from different cultures, races and
backgrounds will give him an edge in the increasingly globalised world.
XYZ participated in a service learning project in Myanmar in 2007. He was involved in logistical
planning before the trip by attempting to secure additional funding for the trip. He also helped to
prepare for the journey by putting in many hours into the task of classifying books. In Myanmar, he
was exposed to a different culture which opened his eyes to a different world. In the process, he learnt
the value of team work, good governance, and a caring heart. The exposure influenced him to put in
greater effort to help the less fortunate in Singapore, particularly by going to Meet-the-People Sessions
which serve to help those who are in need of help and/or have looked to their Members of Parliament
for aid.
XYZ has good rapport with his classmates because of his easy-going demeanour. He is considerate
and friends often seek his help when they encounter academic problems. He gets along very well with
his classmates, and evidently enjoys their company. He has a pleasant disposition, and is a great
student to teach.
XYZ's talents and abilities, coupled with his determination to attain and secure his goals, show that he
has a promising future and will be an asset to any organisation he belongs to.

A*STAR-MOE Local Research Attachment Programme. Subsequently, when selected to be part of an
8-member team representing the College in the prestigious NTU-JC-SPIE-IEEE Challenge, she was an
asset to the team, which was nominated for all 6 awards, winning 3 awards including Best Presentation

expresses her ideas professionally and confidently. Her stellar performance also meant that she was
selected in 2007 to be part of the team representing the College in the inaugural Singapore
