Basic, Fundamental and Allied Research
It is a human tendency to explore what is not visible to naked eyes!
To understand basic research in homeopathy, we first need to understand the areas which ignite
research questions in homeopathy. Apart from clinical success, there are few areas which are of
interest to every scientific mind such as principle of symptom similarity; universal application of
law of similars; therapeutic action of homeopathic medicines; route of action of homeopathic
medicines in human body; logic behind potentization; standardization in preparation,
prescription, preservation and dissemination of medicines; homeopathic philosophy and its

Much progress has been made in understanding the molecular mechanism in the light of
the gene regulatory hypothesis that can explain the action of the homeopathic high
dilutions in all living organisms, both in higher and lower animals as well as in plants. The
present review focuses mainly on research in support of the gene regulatory hypothesis,
and mention has been made of some relevant physical and biological aspects at cellular
and molecular levels.xxii
Overall results validate anti-cancer potential of Conium and provide support for its use in
traditional systems of medicine.xxiii
Condurango 30C could trigger epigenetic modification in lung cancer via modulation of
DNA hypermethylation.xxv
Results indicate that action of the potentized drugs was more than placebo and these
ultra-highly diluted drugs acted primarily through modulation of gene expression.xxvi
Thuja 30C ameliorates BaP-induced toxicity, stress and DNA damage in perfused lung cells
of mice and it apparently has no effect on normal lung cells.xxvii
Ars Alb 30C ameliorated arsenic toxicity and DNA damage, validating efficacy of ultrahighly diluted remedies used in homeopathy.xxix

Dr. Upma Bagai, Associate professor, Panjab University, India is working on Immunology and
chemotherapy aspects of Plasmodium berghei. She has explored the role of homeopathic high
dilutions on malaria in experimental models. Some of her peer reviewed publications are:

There are many more such studies by Indian scientist which are worth mentioning. Some of
them are:
Veterinary Research
Use of homeopathy and high dilutions for veterinary ailments goes back to Hahnemannian era.
Since inception, veterinary usage of homeopathy has been successful, cost effective and safe. In
the past few decades this usage has been increased. Below are some of the glimpses of work
done by Indian scientists and clinicians in this area:
Dr. CH Day reported use of homeopathy for control of stillbirths in pigs in 1984xlv. During 1990s
M Nandi and group showed the dose-dependent effect of homopathic medicines on serum lipid
concentration in chickens, which was published in British Homeopathic Journalxlvi.
It is worth mentioning here the contributions of Dr. J. P. Varshney and team. Dr. Varshney is
Senior Consultant (Veterinary Medicine), Gujarat; formerly at Indian Veterinary Research
Institute, India, has been working on use of homeopathic medicines in various ailments of
animals. Dr. Varshney and team have published several papers in journals of national and
international repute. Some of their papers are:

Agronomy Research
Since few decades, the realm of application of high dilution has been increased. High dilution are
now extensively used in agronomy too. Their use has been observed to increase the yield and
decrease the pathogenicity of diseases. India has a long back history of use of high dilutions in
agronomy. The reported literature goes back to as early in 1970s. Some of the reference of
reported literature may be summarized below:
Dr. K K Khanna and team has to their credit a handful of studies undertaken between 1970s and
1990s.
