October 2015 News Fall is here!

Wow the year is flying by! October is a busy and fun-filled month. The children will be
learning about community helpers and the different jobs they do. They will also be talking
about what they want to be when they grow up. The students will explore the professionals
that help keep us safe and healthy like doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, farmers
and veterinarians for our pets. And last, but certainly not least, they will learn about
teachers! The students will also be exploring world cultures, the globe, travel and the
geography of different places. We have many special events planned this month. We will have
a Pumpkin Patch and Fall Fest, which will include a Fall Photo Booth, face painting, tattoos
and apple cider and cookies. On 10/30, we will have Trick or Treating (no candy!) around our
school and the Costume Parade. We will send reminders for all of our upcoming events.

Start Student of the Month

Columbia Crawlers B

Stella Swanson

Stella is always smiling. She

is a very sweet girl. This
almost one-year old loves to
move around the classroom,
playing with the animals and
crawling into the play house.
She also loves to pose for
pictures for her Mom and
Dad. She has grown so much
since she joined Ivy League.
We are happy to have her in
our class!

Our September Teacher of the Month

is Ms. Lyasia Wallace. Ms. Lyasia has
been a part of our team for over 4
months now. She is the Assistant
Teacher in the Brown Bears B class.
Lyasia just jumped right in and bonded
with the children. She is very hardworking, dedicated and reliable.
Lyasia works very hard to maintain a
clean, safe and fun classroom
environment. She can often be seen
singing with the children and running
on the playground with them. Lyasia
provides excellent assistance to Ms.
Ruby and is friendly and helpful with
parents and the other staff members.
Keep up the good work, Ms. Lyasia!

Health Corner
September was National Emergency
Preparedness Month. The focus is on
ensuring that families are prepared in the
case of a natural disaster or other
emergency situation. Does your family
have a plan? At Ivy League, we have plans
for different kinds of emergencies like
lockdown, fire and external threats. We
practice fire drills each month, as well as
lockdown, tornado and shelter in place

Ms. Carol and Ms. Shamsa

drills on a quarterly basis. Our staff has

been trained on our evacuation procedures
and we even have an evacuation code
which can be broadcast to alert all staff to
evacuate the building. Learn more about
emergency preparations at the CDC
dedicated site
