October 2014 News It is October already!
Wow the year is flying by! October is a busy and fun-filled month. The children have been
learning about community helpers and the different jobs they do. They have also been talking
about what they want to be when they grow up. The students will explore the professionals
that help keep up healthy like doctors, nurses and veterinarians for our pets. And last, but
certainly not least, they will learn about teachers! In Spanish, the children have continued to
study letters and numbers, as well as learning more phrases and theme-related vocabulary in
Spanish. In Gym with Ms. Sam, the children played basketball and did an obstacle course. They
will be practicing throwing and catching, as well as learning to work as a team. We have many
special events planned this month. We will have a Pumpkin Patch and Fall Fest, which will
include a Fall Photo Booth, face painting, tattoos and apple cider and cookies. On Halloween,
we will have Trick or Treating (no candy!) around our school and the Costume Parade. We will
send reminders for all of our upcoming events. Please ensure you have provided a valid email
address and that your Spam filters allow emails from updates@tadpoles.com

Start Student of the Month
Columbia Crawlers B
Patrick Barrett

Patrick is a joy to have in
our class. He is very loving
and loves to give hugs. He is
always smiling and laughing
he looks for ways to make his
teachers laugh, too! Patrick
is growing so fast and we will
definitely miss him when he
moves up to the next class.

Ms. Carol and Ms. Shamsa

Our October Teacher of the Month is
Ms. Yuris Medrano. Ms. Yuris has been
a part of our team for over a year
now. She started as the Assistant
Teacher in Cornell Cubs B and then
moved to Brown Bears A as the
Assistant. She is a loving and caring
teacher, who you can always find
singing and laughing with the children.
She also has taken on the role of our
Spanish teacher this school year, and
she is doing an outstanding job! She is
very dedicated to teaching Spanish
and is always prepared with fun and
engaging lessons for the kids. Gracias
por ser un gran maestro, Ms. Yuris!

Health Corner
Hospitals in Missouri and Illinois are seeing
more children than usual with severe
respiratory illness caused by enterovirus
D68. Several other states are investigating
clusters of children with severe respiratory
illness, possibly due to enterovirus D68.
EV-D68 causes respiratory illness, and the
virus can be found in respiratory
secretions such as saliva, nasal mucus, or
sputum. The virus likely spreads from
person to person when an infected person
coughs, sneezes, or touches contaminated
surfaces. For more info, visit
