UWRT Observations
Note: The times state when each scene started in the episode (5:00 means this scene started
five minutes into the show). I choose to observe the entire episode for each of my
observations for it to be easier for the reader to understand the storyline.
Relevant Background Information: The observations listed below of my figured world
takes place in Mystic Falls, Virginia in present time. The story line mainly revolves around
Elena Gilbert and the supernatural issues happening in Mystic Falls. The main character's
goal in each episode is to protect their town, friends and family. In order for the reader to
understand the entire storyline is to start watching from the beginning of the season.
Figured World is a large social structure or sphere that has specific rules and conventions
that is considered normal in the figured world. For example it is normal for a vampire to
drink blood to survive in the TV Series the Vampire Diaries.
Summary of the rules and conventions for appropriate behavior:
I plan to observe three main characters name Elena Gilbert, Damon and Stefan Salvatore. In
the three episodes I choose to observe will consist of Elena coping with the death of her only
adopted brother and how she uses her vampire senses and actions to help deal with her
brothers death. The other two characters Damon and Stefan will be there along the journey
to help Elena from getting out of control while trying to deal with her brothers death. The
purpose of this figured world is showing how vampires deal with their emotions even though
they are supposed to be considered dead and evil creatures. In the show the vampires will
turn off their humanity to block out painful memories causing them to not care about
others, which in turn cause them to feed on humans, hurting and killing them. It is normal for
vampires to turn off their emotions or humanity once in their lifetime because as a vampire
their emotions are heightened. Feeling simple emotions such as anger and sadness from a
traumatic event will cause them to be at their breaking point. In order to block that, they turn
off their emotions. You will also see their different abilities they have as a vampire such as,
healing, amazing hearing, speed, and strength.
The communities of practice I will be observing are a group of vampires trying to help their
friend Elena to turn back her humanity and how they will succeed in helping her. When she
turns off her humanity it turns her into someone she is not. I expect Elena to prove to her
friends that she is better off this way and does not need her humanity back after her brothers
death. She wants to let them know why bother because she has no other family left after her
brother.
Observation One: 4X15 Stand by Me
1:00- Elena runs into a dark cave to find her brother Jeremy lying on the floor dead with
blood pouring out of his neck. She starts to shout while holding and rocking Jeremy back and
forth saying Youre going to be okay, youre going to be okay. While on the ground
holding onto Jeremy, Elena is crying and shaking and looking at the ring on his hand. Damon
and Stefan are talking to each other asking how Jeremy died. They come up with an idea that
Katherine killed Jeremy.
3:00- (Next Scene) Caroline is at Elenas house and looks over to see Stefan walk through the
door with Jeremys dead body in his arms and stops what she is doing. Caroline has a

confused and shocked expression on her face. Stefan carries Jeremy up to his room while
Elena follows him. They put Jeremy on his bed and wrap a blanket on him. Elena sits next to
her brother Jeremy on the bed and holds his hand and stares at his ring while waiting for him
to wake up. Stefan looks at Elena with a sad expression before leaving the room.
7:00- (Next Scene) Damon is on the island searching for Katherine and his friend Bonnie.
Rebekah is walking alongside him. As they are walking Damon tells Rebekah that Katherine
killed Jeremy. Rebekah is in shock and feels sympathy for Elena because she knows he was
her only family left. Damon and Rebekah continue to look for Bonnie and Damon tells
Rebekah that Silas is on the loose and to be careful.
9:00- (Next Scene) Bonnie wakes up disoriented confused and angry. She looks around and
sees Shane. She asks Shane what he did to her. Shane then tells Bonnie that Jeremy is dead
and why Silas needs to be brought back. Bonnie looks at Shane is shock and disarray. Bonnie
has tears in her eyes.
10:00- (Next Scene) Caroline and Stefan are having a conversation downstairs in the kitchen,
while Elena is upstairs in Jeremys room. They talk about how Elena is waiting for her
brother to wake up and be okay, but they know he will not because he is dead. Caroline asks
Stefan if Elena knows if Jeremy is dead, he replies no. Elena comes into the kitchen
interrupting their conversation saying she is not in denial that is it possible for Jeremy to
wake up because his supernatural tattoos are gone making him a normal human again, so the
ring will bring him back to life. Caroline looks at Elena hopelessly. Elena keeps repeating
over and over Its possible, its possible. There is a chance. Hope. I cant give up on hope.
There is no way Jeremy is dead. There is absolutely no way my brother is dead. Elena said
as she shakes her head saying she is not in denial and walks away.
15:00- (Next Scene) Caroline and Stefan talk outside Elenas house about how the cure is
gone and they wanted it for Elena, but with no family will she still want the cure. Caroline
said We cant think about that right now. We need to plan for a funeral and cover story. I
dont how people deal with these kinds of situations then she pauses and sniffs the air and
asks Whats that smell? They smell Jeremys dead body rotting away. Stefan replies, Its
Jeremys body starting to decompose.
17:00- (Next Scene) Rebekah and Damon are walking around in the woods talking and trying
to find Bonnie. All the sudden an arrow gets shot through Rebekahs spine by a hunter.
Damon uses his speed to get way. The hunter looks around his surroundings having his bow
and arrow ready to shoot. Damon comes up behind the hunter and flips him over and slams
him on the ground with force. He starts to punch the hunter over and over until he knocks out
completely.
19:00- (Next Scene) Bonnie is sobbing and walks around in anger and sadness. She uses her
anger to start a fire and is on a rampage. Shane runs over to Bonnie and tells her to calm
down. She continues to cry hysterically. Shane grabs Bonnie by her shoulders forcefully and
tells her she can bring back Jeremy with her help. Bonnie just stares at Shane.
22:00- (Next Scene) Elena walks to Jeremys room with a worried expression. Dr. Meredith
walks in and tells Elena she is checking on Jeremy condition. Dr. Meredith holds Jeremys
hand and checks his wrist for a pulse. Elena explains to Dr. Meredith that she will not find
any vitals until he wakes up and said he has died a few times and that the ring brought him
back every time. Stefan shows up to listen and watch. Dr. Meredith tells Elena in a soft

spoken tone that Jeremy died due to extreme blood lost and his neck appears to be broken and
that if the body is left unattended soon the body will start to bloat. Elena interrupts Dr.
Meredith. She gets angry and shouts No! Hes going to wake up okay!! STOP! Hes not
dead! Dr. Meredith talks over Elena by saying she needs to release the body over to her for a
proper funeral. Elena is in rage so she runs to Dr. Meredith and slams and holds her against
the wall. Elena screams into her face saying NO! HES NOT DEAD! Stefan runs up to
Elena and holds her back from hurting Dr. Meredith any further. Elena then said Theres no
science. We need magic to bring him back. We need to find Bonnie. Suddenly Matt walks in
calling Elenas name in confusion about what is all the commotion is about. He then looks at
Jeremys body and to find him dead. He has on a confused, shocked, and heartbroken
expression. Tears start to form in Matts eyes and Elena rushes over to comfort Matt saying
Bonnies will fix this soon and everything will be fine. Everything is going to be fine.
Everything is going to be fine.
27:00- (Next Scene) Damon and Rebekah is on the island talking. Rebekah tells Damon she
is planning to find the cure and take it herself. Damon gets angry and Rebekah said that
Damon does not want Elena to take the cure because he wants her to stay as a vampire
forever. Damon replies saying he wants to find the cure for Elena because she wants and
needs it. Then he walks away from Rebekah.
28:00- (Next Scene) Dr. Meredith covers Jeremys body with a blanket and bumps up the
AC. She looks at Stefan and tells him they cannot keep him in the room much longer. Stefan
nods his head agreeing. Stefan said he has been alive for centuries and each death he has seen
doesnt get any easier. Cell phone rings. Stefan answers the call from Damon. Stefan tells
Damon that Elena is not doing too well and that he needs to find Bonnie fast. Damon replies
saying he cannot find Bonnie and does not want to show up without her. Stefan suggests that
he has to come and use the sire bond to help Elena until they find Bonnie. Damon ends the
conversation by saying he is on his way. He hangs up and as he turns around, Bonnie appears
through the trees and they look at each other in relief. Damon and Bonnie hug. Bonnie looks
at Damon in the eyes in a serious tone saying she knows what to do to bring Jeremy back.
32:00- (Next Scene) Bonnie, Matt, Caroline, and Elena sit at a table in the kitchen. Bonnie
explains what she has to do for Silas to bring back Jeremy. She needs to kill twelve people to
complete the triangle trials. After it is completed Silas can use his power to bring back every
dead supernatural creature back. Matt shouts Bonnie you cant kill twelve people! and
Caroline chimes in saying Youre talking like a crazy person. You are not killing twelve
people and for sure not bringing back every monster back into this world. Elena stares
blankly into space while everyone is talking. The house phone starts ringing silencing
everyone. Elena walks over to answer the phone. The person on the phone asks for Jeremy
and Elena replies Jeremy cant come to the phone right now, hes- Sorry hes dead, hangs
up and walks out of the kitchen. Stefan, Damon, Caroline, Bonnie and Matt stare at each
other in shock and concern.
35:00- (Next Scene) Elena walks up to Jeremys room slowly, looks at his covered body and
with shaking hands and tears removes the blankets revealing a decomposing Jeremy. Elena is
in tears and Damon walks into the room. Elena looks at Damon repeating over and over
Hes dead, hes dead. Hes been dead this entire time and Ive been in denial this entire
time! Elena tells Damon to bring Jeremys body downstairs. She then rushes downstairs and

grabs gasoline and starts pouring it everywhere. Damon puts Jeremys body on the couch.
Everyone around Elena is looking at her in confusion and fear. Elena shouts I need a cover
story. I dont want to live here anymore. Im not willing to bring every dead supernatural
creature back for Jeremy. Everyone in the Gilbert family has died. Elena breaks everything
in her surroundings and throws picture frames everywhere. Lights up a match and holding it
while saying in tears Every inch of this house is filled with memories of the people I love
that have died. Cries hysterically, hands covering her head and face, and drops to her knee
saying I cant, I cant. It hurts, please make it stop. Everyone watches her breakdown in
sadness for their friend. Caroline is in tears. Stefan tells Damon to help her. Damon bends
down to Elena and look into her eyes while holding her telling her to turn off her emotions.
Stefan looks at Damon in anger saying What?! No! Elena stops crying, stares blankly,
closes her eyes. Her humanity/emotions have been turned off.
43:00- (Next Scene) Elena picks up a picture frame of her and Jeremy. Stares at it blankly
with no emotions showing in her face. Stefan tells Damon that it was a bad idea and Damon
disagrees saying when Elenas ready he can use the sire bond to make her turn back on her
humanity.
44:00- (Next Scene) Elena lights up a match and lets it fall to the ground. Flames start to
spread all over the house. Elena, Stefan and Damon walk out the house together.
Observation Two: 4X16 Bring it on
1:00- It is dark outside. Elena is walking in the middle of the road with no cars. She hears a
car coming so she lies down on the ground flat on her back with her legs and arms spread
apart. She closes her eyes. The car is driving and slows down when the driver spots Elena on
the ground. The car stops and a lady rushes out and runs to Elena to see if she is alright. Elena
opens he eyes and looks at the sky. The girl asks if Elena is hurt. Elena replies saying I dont
feel anything. The lady tells Elena she is going to call for help and get her a blanket. She
proceeds to run to her car and opens her trunk to find a blanket. As she turns around, Elena is
right there staring at her. The lady looks frighten and confused. Elena feeds on her neck like a
wild animal. The ladys face shows pain. Sudden the lady goes unconscious. Damon comes
up behind Elena telling her thats enough, we agreed to no killing. Elena responds back
saying, This is the first person Ive seen whose body isnt filled with vervain. Elena drops
the ladys body onto the ground and walks away.
3:00- (Next Scene) Elena is taking a shower. While she is washing her hair, she uses her
hearing ability to listen onto Stefan, Damon, and Carolines conversation in the room. They
talk about suggesting bringing Elena back to school. They think it is a good idea for her to go
through a normal routine and help her get over her brothers death. Elena walks into the room
saying sounds like fun in a monotone. Stefan gives Damon a head nod. Damon goes up to
Elena and gives her orders to not eat anyone at school. Elena stares blankly at Damon and
nods her head.
6:00- (Next Scene) High school setting with a bunch of high school students socializing with
each other. Elena walks down the hall and she sees a flyer with Jeremys face on it. The flyer
had the words Memorial for Jeremy Gilbert. Elena stares at the flyer and takes it down.
Caroline watches Elena from a far to keep an eye on her to see how she is doing. Matt comes
up the Caroline asking if Bonnie is okay. Caroline replied saying Bonnies is at home resting.

Elena walks up to Caroline and Matt. Elena asks Caroline if she can get her old spot on the
cheerleading team. Caroline replies, Yeah Im the captain but, I thought you hated
cheerleading? Elena said, Yeah I did but, I think it would be a good idea! Caroline gets
happy and smiles saying I think that will make Damon really happy!
9:00- (Next Scene) Stefan is talking to Sheriff Forbes in her office. Sheriff Forbes explains
that the entire blood supply has vanished at the local hospital. Stefan asks Sherriff Forbes if
she is accusing him and the others of stealing. She replied No but, I cant keep lying about
how mysterious things happen or things will boil over. Stefan said he would find out who
stole all the blood bags and keep Sheriff Forbes updated. Sheriff Forbes said, Good because
that incident will put you and your friends at risk including my daughter Caroline.
11:00- (Next Scene) Elena walks around the school in her cheerleading uniform looking
around her surroundings. The school gym is surrounded by cheerleaders from other schools
and students cheering from the stands waiting for the competition to start. Caroline comes to
Elena excitedly tell her she thinks the team will actually have a chance to win this year. Elena
looked disinterested and begins to look at the other cheerleaders from other schools. She
spots a cheerleader walking to an empty school bus. Elena follows her quietly onto the bus.
The girl is busy looking through her bag to get something to notice Elena. The girl turns
around and gasps. Elena looks at the girls ribbon and said, I like your ribbon. I want it.
The girl replies, Yeah but, Im using it so o get you own. with an attitude and tried to move
around Elena. Elena attacks her neck and feeds on her. The girl screams out in pain. Elena
takes off her ribbon while still feeding on her.
16:00- (Next Scene) Elena walks back into the gym like nothing happened with the blue
ribbon tied in her hair. Caroline comes up to Elena asking where she has been and why she
has on a ribbon that is not their school colors. Elena smiles and shrugs her shoulders. She
walks away. Caroline looks after her confused and then sees a girl in the same color uniform
as Elenas ribbon walking in with a scarf around her neck. Caroline realizes what Elena did
and chases after Elena saying, Are you out of your mind?!? Feeding on the competition?
Hello! Did you not hear what Damon told you earlier? Elena replies, I did but, who cares.
Ill do whatever I want. Stefan walks asking Elena and Caroline if everything is alright.
Elena nods her head and walks away to warm up before the performance. Caroline looks at
Stefan and said, Remember Damon sired her to behave? Didnt really work.
19:00- (Next Scene) Stefan is one the phone with Damon. Stefan tells Damon that the sire
bond does not work anymore. Damon tells Stefan that it is impossible for that to happen.
Stefan comes with an idea that the sire bond only worked because Elena had feelings for
Damon but, with Elenas humanity off and she does not have emotions. The sire bond broke.
Damon ends the phone call by telling Stefan to keep an eye on Elena while he looks for the
cure.
22:00- (Next Scene) Stefan walks up to Elena saying they needed to have a talk. He asks her
if she fed on the cheerleader. Elena smiles innocently and response with a maybe. Stefan then
asks her if she had anything to do with the missing blood bags at the hospital. Elena replies,
Im sick on blood bags. Trust me. I prefer something a little warmer. Stefan tries to
convince Elena to turn back on her humanity saying he went through the same thing and
ended up killing and hurting thousands of people. Telling her she is better than this. Elena
response, I dont know. This may be the better version of me. and walks away. Caroline

stands in front of Elena as she is walking and tells her there is no way she can cheer. Elena
replies back saying Lets see who can stop Me. in a harsh tone and walks into the gym.
Elena, Caroline and the rest of the team cheers their routine. Caroline gets thrown up into the
air as a flyer. Elena takes a step back and does not catch help catch Caroline in time so
Caroline lands on the ground hard. The crowd gasps and the team members rushes to see if
Caroline is okay. Elena smirks at Caroline. Caroline looks back at her in pure rage. Elena
walks out of the gym. Stefan catches up to Elena and distracts her. He quickly injected a
needle into Elena with vervain. Elena falls into Stefans arms unconscious.
30:00- (Next Scene) Elena wakes up on a bed gasping. She looks at Stefan asking him what
he did to her. Stefan replies Brought you home before you can cause any more trouble.
Elena responds back saying, So? I was hungry so I fed. Stefan tells Elena that she is acting
just like Katherine, her doppelgnger. Elena replies No, she has been running from her
problems. Shes afraid of her own shadows. Im not afraid of anything. Ive shut it all off,
including my feelings for you. I just dont feel anything anymore. Why do you care if I kill
people?. Because I put you into this world. Im not letting you do this and have you suffer
later when you turn back on your humanity. Realizing what you have done. Hurting and
killing innocent people, said Stefan. Stefan and Elena pause and look at each other as they
hear people walking in the house. Stefan rushes down the stairs to see who came in. A huge
crowd of high school students walk through the door getting ready to party. Stefan looks at
the people with a confused expression. Loud music starts to play in the background. Elena
walks down the stairs and smiles sweetly at Stefan saying, You kept me from seeing people
so I brought them here.
35:00- (Next Scene) High school students are dancing, talking, and drinking. Sheriff Forbes
walks in angry and comes up to Elena saying she is shutting down the party. Elena pushes
Sheriff Forbes roughly and hard against the wall. Caroline runs up to her mom to see if she is
okay. Stefan holds back Elena. Elena escapes from Stefans holds and uses her super speed to
run out of the house. Caroline and Stefan walk outside into the woods searching for Elena.
They came up with a plan that if they see Elena, that they should snap her neck. Caroline and
Stefan split up.
40:00- (Next Scene) Caroline is walking around the woods shouting out Elenas name. Elena
runs up behind Caroline and flips her over and punches her. Elena and Caroline fight.
Caroline gets frustrated and screams at Elena saying JUST STOP! This isnt you and you
know it Elena! You hurt my mom.. How far are you going to take this? Elena stops fighting
Caroline and replies back, Are you trying to make me feel bad for hurting your mom? Dont
you get it Caroline? I. Dont. Care. Caroline gets angry and slaps, kicks, and punches Elena.
Elena breaks a tree branch and stabs Caroline in the stomach. Caroline gasps, screams in pain
with blood spilling out of her body, and falls to the ground. Elena takes out the branch and is
about to aim for the heart but, Stefan and Damon rushes over to them. Damon grabs Elena
and takes her away. Stefan checks to see if Caroline is alright.
46:00- (Next Scene) Stefan and Caroline is in the living talking. Caroline has a sad
expression and said What if she doesnt turn back on her emotions? She wont choose to
turn them back on. Shes not an orphan, she just lost her brother. Her life sucks. So why
would she come back to us. Stefan replies, I remember when I was at my worst. Elena
didnt give up on me. So we cant give up on her. Caroline nods her head.

Observation Three: 4X17 Because the Night

1:00- Couple walking down streets of New York casually talking and they see Damon lying
on his stomach not moving pretending to be unconscious. The couple checks to see if Damon
is alright. The boyfriend turns his head to tell his girlfriend to stay back, but when he turns his
head to face Damon. He is gone; the boyfriend has a confused and scared expression. The
boyfriend hears his girlfriend scream and turns around to see her lying on the ground dead
with blood coming out of her neck. Damon appears in front of the boyfriend and feeds on
him. At the bottom of the screen it reads, New York, 1977.
3:00- (Next Scene) Damon and Elena are in New York walking through the streets. Damon
tells Elena when he was in New York years ago he got to feed and no one found out about
him. Damon told Elena he took her here so she could have her fun. (Next scene) Damon and
Stefan are on the phone. Damon tells Stefan he took Elena to New York so she does not
cause trouble in Mystic Falls. Stefan gets angry and asked if he is still looking for the cure.
Damon replied saying he found a clue leading to Katherine being in New York who has the
cure. Stefan tells Damon to be careful about not having Elena found out hes looking for the
cure or she will bolt. Stefan explains that Elena is ruthless without her humanity and the cure
will bring her real self-back as soon as possible. Damon hangs up and sees Elena walking
towards him smiling. Elena got a new haircut and hairstyle. Her hair looks shorter and has red
streaks in it.
7:00- (Next Scene) Silas and Bonnie is in Bonnies house. Silas brainwashed Bonnie by
telling her the only way she can bring back Jeremy if she helps him with his plan to complete
the expression trial. Silas asks if Bonnie has told anyone where he is and she said no that she
lied to her friends and family about working with him. Silas is portraying as Professor Shane.
Silas tells Bonnie the reason only she can help because she is decedent of a powerful ancient
witch, and only has the powers to complete the expression triangle to get rid of the other side
to bring back every single dead supernatural being. Bonnie looks like she is unsure about
going through with his plan by killing twelve people. Silas encourages her to do so by saying,
Do this for Jeremy.
10:00- (Next Scene) Elena and Damon walk into a bar called Billys. The bar is filled with
a large amount of people. Damon tells Elena he spent the 70s here and that no one would
notice any missing people here. Rebekah all the sudden appears behind Damon using her
super speed saying Looking for the cure without me I see. Elena looks at Damon with a
confused expression. Rebekah explained that she and Damon were still looking for the cure
to Elena. Elena gets angry and asks Damon if that is true. Damon tells Rebekah he brought
Elena to New York to feed and have fun. Rebekah is still skeptical. Damon tries to convince
her by telling her he switched his humanity off in the 70s and went to New York and thought
it would be good for Elena. Damon walks off to the bar to get a drink. Rebekah and Elena
talk. Elena does not buy Damons story and she knows his real reason they are here is so he
can look for the cure. Elena does not want Damon to find the cure because she knows Stefan
and Damon will force her to take it to get her humanity back. Elena tells Rebekah she plans
on finding the cure first behind Damons back while on this trip.
18:00- (Next Scene) Caroline, Stefan, and Klaus are in Shanes office looking for information
on how to kill Silas and stop his plan with completing the expression triangle. Stefan,

Caroline and Klaus look through file cabinets and book shelves. Caroline finds a book stating
that for the expression triangle to be complete after the previous two massacres. What is left
for Silas to do is kill twelve witches.
22:00- (Next Scene) Bonnie yells at Silas saying, You want me to kill twelve witches?! Im
not doing that! Silas tells her if she completes the expression triangle they will all come back
anyways. Bonnie questions herself, she think she is not strong enough to cast the spell. Silas
tells Bonnie that she is strong and powerful enough. Silas then tells Bonnie in descriptive
detail on how to cast the spell. Bonnies father walks into the room. Bonnie tells him to call
her mom and to bring a lot of witches to Mystic Falls.
26:00- (Next Scene) A rock band is playing in the background, people dancing and singing
along in the bar. Rebekah, Elena and Damon take shots together. They are dancing and
having fun. As Elena and Damon dance, Elena finds a girl as her next target to feed on. She
walks up to the girl and compels her to not scream and Elena bites and feeds on her neck.
Everyone who is not a vampire is too busy dancing and drinking to notice Elena feeding on
the girl. Damon walks away from Elena and Rebekah. Damon is heading to the owners
office. Elena watched Damon walk away. Rebekah and Elena know that Damon is trying to
look for information to find Katherine and the cure. Elena and Rebekah walk over to the bar
to get a drink. They talk about working together to find the cure before Damon. Elena plans
to give Rebekah the cure. She asks why Rebekah wants to take the cure. Rebekah replies
saying it is because she wants to start a family of her own one day.
32:00- (Next Scene) Damon is in the bar office looking through files. He finds a file on
Katherine and in the files it has her current address. Elena walks in the office. Damon quickly
hides the files before Elena can see. Damon guides Elena out the office and tells her they
should get a drink. This is to distract Elena from finding the files.
34:00- (Next Scene) Bonnie walks in the woods waiting to meet up with the witches. Twelve
witches are in the woods waiting for Bonnie and they think they are there to help Bonnie
control her powers. Bonnie and the head witch stands in the middle will the other eleven
witches form a circle around them. The witches link their powers together. The head witch
puts her hands on Bonnie head and starts to cast a spell. In the middle of the spell Stefan runs
up to the witch telling her to stop and that Bonnie is working for Silas. The witch takes out a
knife planning to kill Bonnie. Caroline runs over to the witch and forces the knife into the
witchs heart killing her and the other eleven witches because they were all linked together as
one. Caroline stands up and realizes she accidently completed the third massacre. Caroline
did not mean for this to happen she just wanted to save her best friend from getting killed.
Actors- An individual that plays a role in a community, whether it is a big or small role. I
choose these specific actors because they played an important roles in understand the
observations.

Important Characters:
Elena Gilbert- The protagonist who falls in love with a vampire name Stefan Salvatore
but, later feels drawn with his brother Damon Salvatore when she becomes a vampire in the
last episode of season 3. This results into a love triangle between Elena and the Salvatore
brothers. Elena is the kind of person who will protect her friends and family before herself.
She would sacrifice herself if it means saving the people she loves. In the serious you will

Stefan Salvatore- One of the two main male protagonists. Stefan is a 166-year-old
vampire. He has an older brother, Damon Salvatore. Stefan falls in love with Elena and has a
relationship with her throughout season one to three and the beginning of season four. Stefan
is caring, compassionate, and protective. He does not have the normal personality of a
vampire. He does not like drinking human blood and has a heart and soul compared to other
vampires.
Damon Salvatore- The other main male protagonists, who is a 174 year old vampire.
Damon falls madly in love with Elena causing a love triangle. Damon is Stefans older
brother. Damon has an evil personality, but deep down he has a heart for those he cares most
about. He is not the kind of guy who shows his feelings and emotions very easily. Damon
does not care about who he hurts or kills if it is to protect his friends and family. He also does
not always make the right decisions.
Jeremy Gilbert- Elena Gilberts younger brother. He is Elenas adoptive brother but
biological cousin. He is considered as Elenas brother because they were both raised by the
same parents. Jeremy has a romantic relationship with Bonnie. Also he is the member of the
five (supernatural hunter). Jeremy is a caring, loving, and strong guy.
Bonnie Bennett- One of Elenas childhood best friends who is a witch. Bonnie is a
feisty, empathetic witch who is the one always saving her friends if it means she has to get
hurt or sacrifice herself. She also serves as a counselor when it comes to her friends.
Everyone comes to her for help and advice of life and she always knows the right thing to
say. She is selfless, compassionate, and helpful.
Caroline Forbes- One of Elenas child hood best friends who use to be human but later
became a vampire thanks to Katherine Peirce. She is energetic, caring, thoughtful, protective,
and self-less. She is like the mother in her group of friends. Caroline always makes sure
everyone is okay and taken care of. She also tries to be strong for her friends and puts her
friends and family before her.
Matt Donovan- Elenas ex-boyfriend and closest guy friend from childhood. He is the
sweetest and most caring guy. He does anything to help protect his friends even though he is
just human. He is always there for Elena to listen to her problems and give the best
relationship advice. Matt is the caretaker of the group and the peace maker. He is the reason
why Elena turns on her humanity.
Katherine Pierce- Elena Gilbert is her doppelgnger who is a vampire. She is the
opposite of Elena. She cares for no one but herself and does not care who she hurts or kill to
get what she wants. Also she is very sneaky, ruthless, and vengeful.
The Originals- A family who were the first vampires to ever be created. Klaus and
Rebekah is part of the originals family. The only way they can die is if they are staked by the
white oak stake. The white oak is a tree that was used to create them. There is only one white
oak stake in the world. The Original family is more powerful than any other vampire.
Silas- Known as the worlds first immortal being. He is a powerful witch and the cocreator of the immortality spell. He is smart and manipulative. The reason for him wanting to
get rid of the other side was so he could be reunited with his one true love.

Vocabulary List:
1. Vervain: A herd and vampires weakness. If a vampire comes in contact with vervian it
will burn them and if they digest it, it will cause throat and digestive tract to burn, making
them become feverish and extremely weak. If a human ingest or holds vervain, it will protect
him/herself from vampire compulsion.
2. Doppelgnger: paranormal double or twin of a living person.
3. Sire bond: link between the sire and their progeny that occurs within the vampire
species. The progeny takes orders from the sire to show loyalty.

1. One Character I can relate to most would probably be Stefan Salvatore. Even though he is
a vampire, he has a heart and a soul and he cares for so much. Even though he drinks blood
he cant seem to bring himself to drink human blood. He cares about everything even though
he may not show it sometimes deep down you he does. And I can be the same, not the
drinking blood part, but the part in he cares and wants to protect what he cares about no
matter what.
2. I wish I could be Caroline Forbes, because seeing how she was a normal girl, but then
turned into a vampire would be amazing. I would love to experience becoming a vampire and
seeing how much fun it could be. But also because after becoming a vampire her attitude
towards life changed, in the sense that she lived life without worrying about what might
happen, she lives life to the fullest.
3. I would want to bring back Sherriff Forbes. She might not have been a huge character,
but she played a big part in all of the main characters lives, especially being Caroline Forbes
mom. She was an important piece to everyone and to the town itself.
4. I became a fan by a friend of mine. She had mentioned it before, but I never really
watched it until I saw it on television and then found it on Netflix. After watching it, I was
able to fangirl over the show with her. I instantly became hooked because of the story line
of the show and who doesnt love a show about vampires?
5. Some pros to being a vampire would be: you never age; you would be able to run fast or
move fast, you could also compel people to do what you want. Some cons would be: with the
never aging you would never be able to experience the full effect of true love, because you
could never age with person you love. Another con would be you could not be out in the sun

1. I relate most to Matt Donovan because he always tries to put his friends first and is
always there for everyone even though he is just a human.
2. I wish I could be Alaric Saltzman because he was able to help the character in the show
and encourage people like Damon to make the right decisions. Also he was like a father
figure for Elena and Jeremy after they lost their parents in a car accident.
3. Aunt Jenna because her and Alaric had a cute romantic relationship. They were one my
favorite couples in the show because they were just ordinary humans in love. Also Jenna was
the care taker/mother figure for Elena and Jeremy. She was always there to support them
though anything and wanted the best for them.
4. I started watching the show when Damon Salvatore caught my eye during the previews
and the previews sparked my interest.

1. I relate to Elena Gilbert the most because she always puts others before herself and is
very selfless.
2. I wish I could be like Damon Salvatore because he is very bold, honest, and daring. He
takes risks and doesnt try to sugar coat anything when telling someone the hard honest truth.
3. A character I would bring back would be Lexi Branson. She was such a good best friend
to Stefan. When Stefan would turn off his emotions, she would always be there to help him
get back to his old self and she never gave up on him no matter what.
4. I started watching The Vampire Dairies when I was bored and trying to find a new show
to watch on Netflix. Then I watched every episode and fell in love with the story line.
5. Pro- Compelling people, super speed, looking young forever, and healing others with
your blood. Con- Being in the sun, vervain, living forever, possibly killing people and losing

the ability to do magic and cast spells.

Artifacts are physical objects, emotions, or ideas that show importance to characters or a
certain individual within a group.
The Cure- A small vital of blood that if consumed by a vampire, he/she will no longer be
immortal and is now a human.
Elenas humanity- Elenas emotions have been turned off due to a traumatic experience. She
could not deal with the emotions from the loss of her brother, so she turned off her humanity
to prevent her from feeling the pain.
Communities of Practice are a group of people with a common interest, experience and
lifestyle. They can come from an organization. Within the group, they learn from each
other and understand the world through a different perspective at a better understanding.
Vampires- This group consist of Elena, Stefan, Damon, and Caroline. They have been friends
for many years and they can each relate how it feels to be a vampire. They know the positives
and negatives that come from being a supernatural creature. In the end they are just vampires
who still each have a heart and just want to protect the ones they care and love most.
Elenas group of friends- Elena has a strong supportive group of friends. In this group of
friends are Matt, Caroline, Bonnie, Stefan, Bonnie, and Tyler. Tyler, Matt, Elena, Caroline
and Bonnie all grew up together and have been friends since they can remember. Stefan and
Damon have been with Elena since sophomore year. Even though they do not know Elena as
much as the others they still love and care for her just as much. Elenas groups of friends all
look out for each other and protect the ones they love.
Domain is something that helps recognize a person from a group of people, whether it is an
interest or value.
Trying to turn on Elenas humanity- All of Elenas friends throughout many episodes of the
show try to find ways to bring back Elenas humanity, like finding the cure, telling her happy
memories of her past, or showing pictures of happy memories.
Practices of the Community is developing skills and methods though experience that can
help further your knowledge when it comes to working through situations or just everyday
simple tasks in your field of work like caring for patients if you are a doctor.
Methods to bring back Elenas humanity- Elenas friends try several different methods to see
which works best to bring back her emotions. The community of practice knows that they
have to bring the old Elena back as soon as possible or she will do something she will regret
later on when she turns back on her emotions.
Literacy practices- Are ways of communicating that either are written or spoken. Ex.
Texting, talking, emailing, or phone call.
Phone calls- Many conversations Stefan and Damon have together are through phone calls.
They use this kind of communication to make it easier for them to tell each other important
information fast from anywhere.
