Crêpe Night ”The Psychology of Redemption”
This month we re-launched our outreach nights with
the coffee bar. We planned the evening to be a night
of crêpes, conversations, and unrehearsed musical
performances. The night started slow as most event
nights do but soon the coffee bar was full of young
and old, chatting and nibbling away the evening.
People enjoyed the acoustic performances and the
crowd even participated by singing along a few times.
I even got a chance to play my rendition of “I’ll Fly
Away”, an old praise song that my father played while
my siblings and I ran laps through the house.
! We also had many new faces that night as
well. It is exciting to see each time that we do an
outreach like this how many people come and how
new relationships are started. Please be praying for
the future events like this one and more importantly
the relationships and the conversations that are
birthed from nights like these.

Thanksgiving:
Thanksgiving was a bit different this year for me.
Kate and I worked the coffee bar because it is not a
holiday here in France. After the coffee bar closed
we went over to a friends that was celebrating
Thanksgiving with some others from the church
and made it just in time to enjoy some of the won-
derful food. The next day however, we spent the
day together doing some shopping, which Kate and
I both love to do, and then in the evening we had a
wonderful meal out together. All in all we had a
nice Thanksgiving even if it was a bit different than
the traditional ones we were use to.

Stephan:
Stephan and I
met in the line for
the cinema at the
beginning of the
month. He is a well
travelled French man,
so we naturally fell into
stories of adventure and
travel that we had experi-
enced during our lives. We
exchanged numbers and
that next week he called me
and invited Kate and I to watch
a French comedian with him. So
we met him at his house and then
all went together to the theatre. It
was a tiny little theatre that sat about
20 people. I was surprised at how
much of the comedian I actually under-
stood, and the little I didn’t was because of
slang words that I don’t know and probably
don’t need to know. After that Stephan took us to a
great Afghanistan restaurant where we sat on the floor,
slowly ate, and soaked up conversations of each others lives.
! About a week later he called again wanting to go see a movie
with us. Kate didn’t really want to see the movie so just Stephan and
I went. After the movie we again jumped into conversation easily,
this time discussing about relationships. We ended up on the topic
of marriage and it was here that he began to really see that my help-
ing a church in France was more than a nice thing to do for human-
ity, but was something that I do because I believe it is what God
asked me to do. I shared with him that my idea of marriage is some-

thing very spiritual and represented something very important to
me. It is a picture or a taste so to say of the kind of relationship that
God wants to have with us. Marriage is something that includes
God. I also shared about love and how you have to choose to love
someone for who they are. Love is a choice and when you choose to
love someone it means that even when that person hurts you, or
there are hard times, that you choose to sacrifice your own wants
and desires prefer them over yourself.
! Stephan Kate and I are continuing to hangout and he is very
interested in what we are doing in the church. He even came by to
check the crêpe night out. He was very impressed at how a church
could have a night where anyone was invited to come and just hang-
out and get to know others. He was used to churches being very
inward focused, pretending to always be open but once inside very
private and self-centred. “Once you are a part of the church every-
thing you do is with either people from church or having to do with
the church.” So he was excited with how we ran our coffee bar.
! Please pray that the Lord would continue to be present in
our conversations and that the Holy Spirit would be working on
Stephan’s heart. He has already been so welcoming and has even
invited Kate and I for Christmas day at his mothers house in Mon-
aco. This is a great privilege considering that Christmas is usually a
family holiday here and it’s hard enough to get French people to let
you in to their lives for regular things. Kate and I are both really
excited to see God working!
