27 SEPTEMER 2014

Dear sir,
Complaints about School Canteen

With reference to the title above, I would like to complain about the poor
service of our school canteen.
2.

First of all, I would like to voice out my displeasure()

about the hygience condition of our school canteen. The dirty floor is an
eyesore to the students who dine in the canteen. Worse still(),
the drains are clogged by the leftovers dumped into them. As a result, they
emit foul stench which disheartens() the students while they are
having their meals. In addition, the food and drinks sold by the canteen lack
variety. The students are fed up eating the same food everyday.
3.

For your information, there are reports that dead flies and

mosquitoes found in the food and drinks. This shows that the canteen
workers do not handle the food in a proper way. Besides, they never cover
their hair. Some of them even show lackadaisical() attitude when
serving the food. The facilities of the canteen still have room for
improvement(). For instance, there are insufficient table and
chairs to cater to the needs() of the students which are growing in
number.
3.

Hereby, I would like to formulate a few suggestions() to

ameliorate()the condition of our school canteen. Firstly,in order to

ensure() the hygience of the canteen to be maintained well, the floor
and the drains should be cleaned regularly. Besides, the school canteen can
change the food menu to cater to() the taste of the students. The food
and drinks should be covered to prevent the infestation() of flies and
mosquitoes.
4.

On the other hand, ther workers are advised to wear caps and

aprons while handling the food. More benches and tables should be added
to tackle() the problem of insufficient place of eating.
5

Yours faithfully,

Richard Hew

- use all the information above

Model Answer 7:
A very good morning to the principal, teachers and fellow students. As
the President of the Road Safety Club, I feel privileged()
14

standing here before you to give u a speech on Road Safety.

For your information, accidents which involve motorists are increasing
in this day and age(). The major cause of these accidents is some of
the motorists turn without signalling. The motorists may be knocked down by
other vehicles when they switch lanes during traffic jams on the highway.
Some motorists even break the rules after midnight.
Weaving in and out of traffic by motorists may cause accident too.
Some accidents happen due to reckless driving of motorists. They beat the
traffic lights.According to the survey, most of the motorcycle-related
accidents involve underaged motorists. This is because youngsters tend to
be impulsive() and reckless() when they drive their
motorcycles on the road.
Accidents may happen due to speeding in housing estates. There are a
lot of turns and junctions in housing estates which are prone to()
accidents. The motorists should ensure that their vehicles are in good
condition. It is good to carry out maintenance once a month to ensure their
motorcycle in good condition.
It is suggested that the traffic police to set up road blocks during peak
hours, especially after midnight. In this way, the police can detect the
motorcyclists who are drunken or not having driving license. The relevant
authorities ought to set more speed traps in highly-risked places.
The government need to impose heavier fines() to those
who drive recklessly/ flaunt the law.The government should organise road
safety campaign to raise awareness among the road users.
I would end my speech here. I hope that you are benefited from my
speech. Thank you.

Model Answer 9:
To: The Principal of SMK Seri Super
From: Lucy Leow
The Lack of Interest in Sports Among the Students of SMK Seri Super
Recently, I have conducted a survey to find out the reasons why the
students in our school lose their interest in sports. Here are the findings of
my survey. First of all, the students show lackadaisical attitude towards
sports(). They assume/regard()sport as a hot,
dirty and sweaty activity. They also cited that they are lack of time(
). They have no ample time() to engage in(
) sports because they are busy doing the homeworkassigned()
bytheir teachers.
On the other hand, it is undeniable that() the parents place
more emphasis on the academic performance() of their
children. Nowadays, it is a common scenario that the parents send their
children to tuition classes and seminars(
)to boost/strengthen/intensify/reinforce/sharpen up()their
study skill.
In addition, the condition of sports facilities should be taken into
account as one of the factors which leads to this scenario().Currently,
there is insufficient sports equipment to cater to (
)theneeds of our students.Worse still(), the poor
condition of the field and courts draws the anger() of the students
who want to carry out activities.

19

I would like to formulate a couple of suggestions() to

tackle() the lack of interest in sports among the students. The school
should() stress the importance of sports to the students. The school
can also() has a dialogue with parents about this matter to root
out/eradicate()the problem once and for all().In addition, the
school is suggested to()improve the sports facilities for the
students.
Employing qualified trainers would be another way to ameliorate()
this problem. In this way, the students will receive proper training in
sports. The school may organize more competitions to trigger/arouse the
interest() of students towards sports. If the school offers attractive
prizes for the sports achiever, it will act as an incentive() for the
students who take part in sports.
