Giles Phillip Monologue

Introduction
As we are introduced to the FEMALE CHARACTER, ALEX, you can hear a
SUDDEN yet FORCED COUGH coming OFFSCREEN. ALEX FREEZES mid
sentence and INHALES GENTLY yet AUDIBLY, whilst CONTINUING to look at
the CAMERA. We then see the camera ZOOM OUT, REVEALING a
UNKNOWN MALE CHARACTER whom is SITTING to the LEFT of ALEX. ALEX
STOPS TALKING and SHARPLY GLANCES to her LEFT at this UNKNOWN
CHARACTER. The CHARACTER can then be seen JUMPING SLIGHTLY as the
camera ZOOMS out, placing his RIGHT hand on his CHEST and FANNING
his LEFT HAND out. His SMILE stretches across his FACE and then CLEARS
his THROAT and LOOKS DIRECTLY into the CAMERA.
GILES TALKING HEAD
Oh me?
(beat)
Is it on me now?
(beat)
Is an introduction necessary? Maybe. Im the Giles Phillip.
GILES can be seen FREQUENTLY FANNING his hands, GLANCING up to the
CEILING in THOUGHT and PLACES his HANDS together creating a LIGHT
CLAP - all whilst LOOKING PAST the CAMERA. GILES even NUDGES ALEX
SOFTLY as if he is asking for REASSURANCE much to ALEXS DISLIKE,
judging from her BLANK STARE to the CAMERA.
GILES TALKING HEAD
Me, well Ive been in the bizz now for, many years [nudge].
Ive produced phenomenal theatrical work to short intimate
plays. You name it, Ive directed it.
GILES then RETURNS his EYES to the CAMERA and SWIFTLY OPENS his
hands out.
GILES TALKING HEAD (CONTD)
Ive even met THE Andrew Lloyd Webber...
Still holding his HANDS out, GILES begins to BLURT out his words and talk
as if he was RUSHING what he was SAYING.
GILES TALKING HEAD (CONTD)
...It was the back of his head as he got into a taxi, but, I just
know if he had time wed be the best of friends right now!

INTRODUCING THE PLAY

Meanwhile, GILES STOPS walking a FEW YARDS away from the
AUDITIONEES and RAISES his LEFT hand, lets out a FORCED yet SUBTLE

COUGH, causing the AUDITIONEES to stop TALKING and to TURN to

POSITION GILES and ALEX.
GILES
Gather round everyone, gather round. Welcome back for
another show - Peter Pan: The Musical! Thank you all for
being here today, Alex, my new assistant director will be
handing out the audition sheets.
...
GILES CONTINUES to SPEAK and MOVES his LEFT HAND AROUND as he
DOES, whilst REVEALING a LIGHT ENTHUSIASTIC SMILE as he begins to get
EXICTED.
GILES (CONTD)
The first sheet is the song you need to perform, a remix of
the hit song (X) remade to tell the tale of Peter Pan! The
second sheet is a monologue direct from my hit musical, after
both of these auditions please wait outside to be called back
in, you have 20 minutes before we see the first auditonee!
We will be announcing the roles at the end of the day. Any

GILES then can be SEEN CLAPPING his HANDS TOGETHER TWICE straight
after each other.
GILES (CONTD)
Chop chop ladies and gents! Time is making fools of us again!

Scene where we learn Giles mortgage is put into funding

JOHN (CONTD)
Dont let me down.
JOHN then leaves a very STARTLED GILES, who NODS his head UP and
DOWN at JOHN REPEATEDLY at a STURDY PACE. JOHN WALKS off whilst
GILES RESPONDS in a SHAKY and TREMORED MANOR.
GILES
Yes, of course John. We wont let you down.
... Leading to Giles conversing with Alex...
ALEX
I cant believe what John has done! Seeing Maddies audition
earlier was outstanding, SHE should have the role as Wendy
instead of Chantelle! Dont you agree Giles?
The camera then PANS to the LEFT to see a rather QUIET and UNUSUAL
GILES, who can be seen STARING AHEAD of him. He QUICKLY BLINKS and
his BODY JOLTS when ALEX mentions his NAME. GILES then still TALKS with

a FRAGIE voice - he feels NERVOUS now that JOHN has REMINDED him
about his HOUSE.
GILES
Pardon?
(beat)
Oh yes, Maddie is fabulous, but we must listen to John, I cant
risk loosing my house, Ill be left with nothing!
