LESSONSUMMARY/OVERVIEW
Withtoday'slesson,studentswilllearnaboutsustainabilityandtheimportanceofpracticingbehaviorsthat
keepourenvironmentbalancedbywatchingavideothatwilldepictclimatechangeandtheeffectsithason
ourenvironmentaroundtheworld.Studentswillalsolearnthatextremeweathercanresultinthelackof
sustainablebehaviorsandfocusonwhataheatwaveisandhowitoccurs.Studentswilldiscussasaclass
specificdiscussionquestionsandbrainstormdifferentideasthatcancontributetobeingsustainable.Students
willrecordtheirthoughtsandideasintheirsciencejournalforDay5.
OBJECTIVES
Studentswillbeabletoexplainthataheatwaveisaprolongedperiodofexcessiveheatthatcanresultin
environmentaldevastation.
ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
Studentswillbegiventhreequestionstoanswerrelatedtothevideowatchedinclass.Thelastquestionwill
allowstudentstoreflectonwhattheylearnedaboutheatwavesandwhattheycandotokeepsafeduringthis
extremeweathercondition.

Studentswillgivetheirexamplesandthiswillleadintothetopicofextremeweather.
"Whatisthefirstthingthatcomestomindwhenyouthinkofextremeweather?"

Studentswillbegiventenminutestowriteintheirsciencenotebooktoreflectonthisquestion.Once
theyaredone,theywillwatch"ClimateChangeAroundtheWorldEpisode7)."Whenthevideois
finished,theteacherwillaskstudentstoraisetheirhandandgiveexamplesofextremeweatherand
thenegativeeffectsithasonourearth.Teacherwillcreateacirclemapontheboardwithstudents

Threequestionswillbelistedontheboardforstudentstoanswer.Twowillberelatedtothevideo
theywatchedinclass,andthelastquestionwillbeaquestionstudentswillcontemplate.Asthe
