INTRODUCTION
Competitive examinations are developed for the hiring of public school
teachers. An analysis of these competitive examinations explaining the
characteristics that the government required of people whom it wished to hire as
teachers represents an important approach to recovering the history of teachers,
which the history of teacher training programs and Didactics itself seems to
hide. The research on which this article is based has the goal of discussing the
history of the subject from the standpoint of analysing the exams for teacher
selection, namely the content, skills, and characteristics required of an
individual to be hired as a teacher in a public school. Considering that Didactics
is the subject from which future professionals acquire everything that they must
know and the skills necessary to be a professional, we dig into the history of this
school subject related to the history of Normal Schools (teacher training
schools) . We also present the analysis of the competitive examinations for
teacher selection, considering the content, skills, and characteristics required for
an individual to be hired as a teacher in a public school.

Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET)

Teaching is one of the most challenging and attractive professions of the times,
and therefore, demands more professionalism from the teacher. In order to
assure a national standard of teaching and learning, the Ministry of Human
Resources decided to have a benchmarking for teachers with a Central Teacher
Eligibility Test (CTET). Right to Education Act as the base for significant
changes in education, also highlights the quality of teaching learning. Through a
kind of licensing for teaching profession, it looks forward to improving the
content as well as pedagogical competencies of the teacher community.

In accordance with the provisions of sub-section (1) of Section 23 of the RTE

Act, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) had vide Notification
dated 23rd August, 2010 and 29th July, 2011 laid down the minimum
qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in classes I
to VIII. It had been inter alia provided that one of the essential qualifications for
a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any of the schools
referred to in clause (n) of section 2 of the RTE Act is that he/she should pass
the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) which will be conducted by the appropriate
Government in accordance with the Guidelines framed by the NCTE.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India has

entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher
Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education
Delhi.

CONCLUSION

We conclude that the knowledge required to hire teachers was not Didactics but
behaviour because, in countries such as Brazil where the welfare state was
never completely constructed, the school served as the first reception room of
the state, and the elementary school teacher, always a woman, was the
receptionist. It had been inter alia provided that one of the essential
qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any of
the schools referred to in clause (n) of section 2 of the RTE Act is that he/she
should pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) which will be conducted by the
appropriate Government in accordance with the Guidelines framed by the
NCTE. The examination is tough with qualification rates of 1% to 14% in the
exams held so far. Then, we present our analysis of the competitive
examinations for teacher selection with respect to the content, skills, and
characteristics required for someone to be hired as a teacher in public schools.
