Memorable Moments
Sri Navaratnasamy Karthikeyan, Lecturer, Department of Physics, Open University of Sri Lanka, Nawala, Nugegoda, Sri Lanka (Academic staff
of the Department since May 1993)
I consider the opportunity to study at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, from 1984 to 1989 as the most important part of my life. I was
very fortunate to (i) have the personal guidance of Srimat Swami Somanandaji Maharaj throughout my nine-year stay in India, (ii) meet Most
Respected Ayya almost every alternate Friday in 1984/86 period at the request of Ayya and (iii) have Srimat Swami Atmaghananandaji Maharaj as
our Secretary & Warden at both Shivananda & Arts College. The training and guidance I received at Vidyalaya for five years, especially from the
above three and many other dedicated teachers (Annas), in a serene atmosphere cultivated many good qualities and rare skills in me, and Swami
Vivekananda’s teachings molded me into a fearless – voluntary social worker.
After my return to Sri Lanka in April 1993, since later part of 1993, with the encouragement of Srimat Swami Atmaghananandaji Maharaj [who served as Swami-
in-charge of Ramakrishna Mission (Ceylon Branch) from 1991 to 2007], I am spending most of my time (apart from university/official commitments) for voluntary
services to our needy people.
Again I am fortunate to associate with the activities of the Ramakrishna Mission in Sri Lanka, since 1994 to this date. I served as a voluntary teacher at the Sunday
Religious School, Colombo, and assisted in (i) conducting numerous youth camps & spiritual retreats; (ii) conducting more than 200 free medical camps; (iii) bringing
out many publications (text, audio & video); (iv) implementing many social welfare projects. I am also serving as a voluntary resource person for regular youth training
/ personality development programmes conducted by a few other Hindu Organisations. I am also serving as a trauma Counsellor since 2004, especially to those with
Hindu religious background and affected by HIV / AIDS, after receiving special training twice in Thailand and once in Bangladesh as a Hindu nominee by United
Nations and Ministry of Health respectively. I have written an awareness article in “Sri Ramakrishna Vijayam” - September 2005 issue and in “Prabudha Bharatha”
– December 2007 issue.
In parallel to my voluntary social welfare and youth training activities, I was able to contribute to the academic field and hold top positions in scientific bodies in Sri
Lanka (where racial discrimination is very systematic and prevail at extreme levels) at relatively young age, mainly due to the hard and superb training received at
Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Coimbatore and also at the Department of Nuclear Physics, University of Madras.
His profile: He completed his +2 in the Vidyalaya Swami Shivananda Higher Secondary School (1984-86) & B.Sc., (Physics) in the Vidyalaya College of Arts and
Science (1986-89). He completed his PG with First Class from Department of Nuclear Physics, University of Madras, Chennai (1989-1991) & M.Phil. (Nuclear
Physics) (1991-93). He is now the member of the Council of the Institute of Physics, Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad Competition Committee, and Interactive
Educational Material (Science) Evaluation Team of the National Science Foundation (NSF); Treasurer of Professional body of Physicists in Sri Lanka; General
Secretary of the Sri Lanka Association for Advancement of Science (SLAAS - is the premier organization of Scientists in Sri Lanka); Team Leader of the Sri Lankan
Team for International Physics Olympiad Competition - 2006 held in Singapore. He was a member of the International Physics Olympiad Committee in 2006 & 2007.
A resource person to the 'Nuclear Knowledge Management Programme' of the International Atomic Energy Agency (Vienna) in collaboration with local and regional
bodies.

Sri.M.R.Ramanujam, Managing Director of AUTOTEX Group of Companies, an alumus of our Polytechnic College, basically a
Mechanical Engineer, hailing from the suburb of Coimbatore District started his Career as Works Manager in a private textile
machinery manufacturing company at Coimbatore. Having acquired in-depth knowledge in textile engineering and also in powder coating technology,
he started a powder coating unit in a small way during 1989. Out of Continuous and meticulous effort, he indigenously innovated a product BOBBIN
HOLDERS in the Brand name of AUTOTEX which has now become Global Market Leader capturing about 70% of the market share within a span
of 2 decades. He could be able to scale this new height because of his quality conciousness in all spheres of production process and better
understanding of the requirement of textile mills to achieve their goal of cost reduction. To excel further in the quality of the product, he is now concentrating in
developing infrastructure for total in house manufacturing. In his long way in the service of textile industry, he recently ventured a project for manufacture of Spinning
Cans and Yarn Carriers such as Ring Tubes, Cones, Bobbins etc. His thrust for industrial development contributing for the nation building does not end with this.
He had also simultaneously developed FMCG Product- GOODLUCK BRAND MOSUITO COILS which had also emerged as one of the leading players in Tamil

for the development Pollution Free Environment.
