- How to edit your research


paper

OK! Youre almost finished! But now that youve put in so much
hard work to get to this point, dont waste it by submitting a rough draft.
Follow these steps to make sure that you turn in a polished and edited final
draft.
Directions: Put a when you have completed each step!
The Drafting Process
Submit a first draft to your teacher.
Look at the rubric for the research paper.
Review the assessed first draft with your teacher.
Edit the first draft based on the marks that your teacher gave you.
Show your second draft to another adult or expert at a writing center.
Edit the second draft based on the feedback. Repeat as needed!
In-text Citations and a Works Cited Page
Ask the teacher for any specific requirements for in-text citations.
Review your writing. Underline all of the facts that you took directly
from the sources that you researched.
Cite all of the facts per the teachers requirements.
In general, the name of the source and the year it was published is a
good start. For example: (World History 2009)
Ask the teacher for any specific requirements for a Works Cited or
Bibliography page.
On the last page of your research paper, list the sources that you cited
and alphabetize them by the authors last names.
Show your Works Cited page to the teacher for feedback.
Basic Writing Conventions
Use the spellcheck and grammar tools.
Ask the teacher for any font requirements.
In general, Times New Roman 12-point font is mostly accepted.
Insert page numbers in the top right corner of each page.
Double-space all of the writing and indent all paragraphs.
Ask the teacher if you need a cover page for the research paper.
If not, create an appropriate heading and title on your first page.
