Report

2015 By DEVATOP

he future of so many young people, especially

women has been frustrated, and their hope
shattered because of the triumph of this evil called
Human Trafcking. Edmund Burke said, The
only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for
good people to do nothing But I am happy that our
organization, NAPTIP, WOTCLEF and other Nongovernmental organizations are doing something.
On a personal standpoint, ghting human trafcking
and other related matters should be everyone's
responsibility, because, every family has a direct or
indirect victim. It doesn't matter if you are rich or
poor, from the city or village, anyone can be at risk of
human trafcking.
lavery was abolished more than 150 years ago,
yet there are more people in slavery today
than any other time of our history.

n estimated 21 million women, children and men are victims of human trafcking around the world. Nigeria is
the source, des na on and transit country of human tracking. Each year, more than 45, 000 people are tracked
within and outside Nigeria. According to UNICEF, every two minutes a child is being prepared for sexual exploita on, and
the average age of a tracked vic m is 12 14 years.

herefore it is important for youths, women, law makers, media experts, businessmen and educators is to
have empathy on victims of human trafcking, rape and violence against children/women, by doing so;
they will take action to put an end to the evil acts. I call on all the young people in the world to be the generation
that built a world without modern slavery.

Course 2: Sex Trafcking By Mr. Chidi Donatus

Course 1 OVERVIEW OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING By Mr. Daniel Atokolo

r. Daniel reminded the participants that human trafcking is the second

largest crime industry with a net worth of 32 billion dollars yearly. He
dened Human Trafcking as the recruitment, transportation, transfer,
harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of threat or use of force or other
forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of
a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benets to
achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the
purpose of exploitation. Human trafcking has a psychological, emotional,
physical and social effects on the victims. The trafckers take advantage of the
vulnerability of the victims, especially women/girls. He further taught the
trainees:
1. Causes, Forms and Effects of Human Trafcking
2. Preventive measures to human trafcking
3. NATPIP works on Prevention, Protection, and Prosecution
According to Mr. Daniel, NAPTIP has increased and improved its efforts in
combating and preventing human trafcking in Nigeria.
Youths, Women, Organizations, Leaders and Religious organizations
need to take responsibility of preventing human trafcking

(from NAPTIP)

Sex Trafcking involves

the habouring and
transportation of
women/girls through
coercion, false promises,
force etc for purposes of
domestic or commercial
sexual exploitation. So
many of the victims are
subjected to have sex with
more than 10 men in a day,
to meet up with trafckers
nancial target.
Sex trafcking is the most common form of modern day slavery. It takes
places in Brothel, truck shops, strip clubs, message palours, etc. Some of
the causes of sex trafcking includes: Gender discrimination, Growth of
global sex industries, illiteracy, wrong association, economic exclusion, etc.
He also expounded on: How to Identify victims; Indicators of Sex Trafcking;
How to help victims and How to Prevent sex trafcking.
Courses 3 - 5
Child/Bonded/Force Labour by Slyvester Atere (from UNODC)
Child Labour, Bonded Labour
and Forced Labour are regarded
as labour exploitation and also
forms of human trafcking. They
are among the human rights
issues facing many countries.
More than 2.4 million people
(men, boys and girls) are victims
of labour exploitation. They
happen in all countries.
23% of reported cases of human trafcking concern labour exploitation.
Trafcking for labour exploitation still remains a hidden crime, not
because it is invisible, but because people do not recognize it for a variety
of reasons including lack of awareness, political will etc. The victims are
forced to work for 14 hours per day. Some are kept in debt bondage,
working without pay, coupled with physical abuse.
Mr. Atere also made emphasis on: Causes of Labour exploitation;
Identication & Prevention of Labour Exploitation; and How to
Rehabilitate victims.
