35 Weeks in the Erle Montaigue Training System

The following, I thought would be of interest to those who are studying my system. This is how I used to train
my students when I had my own school in Sydney City. Nowadays, I am a little gentler. When some of my
older students come to visit and tell stories of how we used to train in the old days, my current students are
amazed at some of the stories. Here is a 35-week training session that I found to be the best way to train
people in the use of Taijiquan as a fighting art. Note that it is called the "Australian" and not the "World" Taiji
Boxing Association, as is it now.
The following methods are of course in addition to the normal Taijiquan and Baguazhang form training.
Some of the below, you would have to be there to appreciate it, however, I have left all of it as it was written
down for my personal students back then.

BASIC TRAINING METHODS INNER CIRCLE CLUB:

AUSTRALIAN TAIJI BOXING ASSOCIATION:
1984-1990

FIRST WEEK:
QIGONG: We begin each master class with increasingly subtle Qigong practices. Qigong is a way to get your
Qi circulating freely, unblocked to give more power for both healing and fighting.

P'ENG: Being one of the more important aspects, we train in P'eng before we begin the technique part. You
partner holds his arms stiff against your P'eng arm. You should only move about 3 or 4 inches using only the
forward movement of your rear leg. Your feet are greatly concave. Your partner should be pushed upward with
the front foot moving up and then you have to also control his weight back down as you sit back again.
P'eng is a posture from the Taiji form and it is said that if a person only learns one technique in his or her life,
then it should be P'eng. Meaning "To Ward of Slantingly Upwards", the arm is held in a sort of rounded position
as if holding a tree or hugging someone. This gives the greatest power for damaging blocks when attacked.

STRIKING: Strike the large strike pad 20 times with each elbow in a lateral way using the waist. This is to
train the way of doing this and the use of the waist for the power. Then we go on and use it in a more realistic
way. That is by stepping slightly to the side for the block (although we don't actually do the block) and then as
the rear foot is stepped up, the elbow makes contact simultaneously with the rear foot.
Here, the waist is moving in the opposite direction to the elbow in just the same manner as when we punch
using fa-jing (explosive energy). So if you are striking with the right elbow, you would twist your waist instantly to
your left upon impact. This is fa-jing power.

KNEE: Strike using the knee 20 times. We train on the bag with someone holding the bag so that we are able
to grab the arms and pull inward as the knee makes contact.
Again we use fa-jing with the waist moving to the opposite direction. It's amazing the amount of power there is
to be gained with the knee using this method.

TECHNIQUE: The technique for the last training method involves using a partner who simply comes in with an

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

attack, preferably a two armed attack. We firstly step to the side and control his arms outward from the inside.
Taking his arms just above the elbows we pull downward in the direction of his arms and slightly forward as we
attack with the knee to the acu-points on the rib area. In this way we hold our own balance instead of allowing
his oncoming force to put us off.
By jerking his arms downwards and not forward, his energy is sent downwards and not directly into us as we
are now standing on one leg in order to use the knee. This method also compresses his abdomen and 'seat of
power', (diaphragm), thus causing him to lose much power.

PUNCH: Five punches on the mitt, (snap punches by 20 times.) Combination, back palm into claw palm and
cross elbow.

TECHNIQUE: This technique comes from the last training method. We block an on coming attack on the inside
with our back palm thus hurting his in-forearm. The same palm then claws to his face, and then the elbow
attacks to his head.
This must be done in a flowing manner where the right palm slams the inside of his right forearm for instance
at the neigwan points of at the LU 5 points thus draining much of his energy. That same palm then rebounds
upwards to turn over and claw down on his eyes, then the elbow circles around to strike to GB 3 (Temple).

2nd way: The second way involves your partner simply attacking you again with the opposite hand anywhere.
You will block his hand as you attack to the face with your elbow., then re-attack again to the head.

3rd way: This is a little more realistic with your partner attacking you before your claw palm makes contact so
you immediately block and attack with elbow. This is done four different ways making 80 times.

BEGINNING OF SECOND WEEK:

QIGONG: We went to the lower hand position.

This is the second position of the hands in "3 Circle Standing Qigong" where the hands are lowered to the
position of about the tantien.

PENG: Using both single whip hands as well as the normal P'eng training method. Squeeze the elbows in:
You would firstly slam the inside of his both forearms using P'eng, then attack his chest using the single whip
hooked fingers to pints like ST 15 and 16. The squeezing of the elbows gives you the power.
ELBOW: Strike 20 times using the elbow in an upward way. This is used at targets such as the chin or the
upper chest area.

TRAINING: Block kick, strike mitt left and right, right and left, fist elbow etc. Here we would slam his oncoming
leg using for instance the Bagwa hammer, then strike the mitts on either side using the fist or palms.

PALM: Use the pounding palm on the round bag striking with great power and speed bringing the rear foot up
each time and moving him away each time.

BACKBREAKER: Block in from the outside and take him into a hammer lock. Snake your right palm around his
neck you are now in back of him. Take your left (other) palm down around his right knee. And take him over
your shoulders. Keep his hammered arm locked in with your shoulder.

REAR NECK LOCK: Block his left punch with either left hinge or right hammer palm and attack his face to put
converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

him off. Your right hand takes his left wrist while your left hand takes his left elbow. You quickly jerk him inward
and turn him around into a hammerlock. Snap him in hard with your left hand and take the thumb side of your
left forearm around his neck. Lock it in with your other palm using 3-finger handhold. Hold him in close if he
tries to counter, rip his head off. His head is now turned to the side so be careful because this is your sleeper
hold and it does work and is very dangerous for the novice.
KICKS: We used the front snap kick with no stretching at all.

THIRD WEEK:
QIGONG: The full standing Qigong: 40 minutes!

PENG: USING THE HOOK : An alternative to the common 'P'eng' is to use the single whip hook which will give
more power and cause more damage.

SHADOW BOXING: Your partner stands in front of you and throws all kinds of attacks at you. You simply
watch at first using your peripheral vision. Watching how he moves etc.
Here, be sure not to actually look at his peripheral attacking weapons, but rather see his whole body using
your eagle vision.

TECHNIQUE: Take the block with your left pounding palm and slap him in the face with your right
simultaneously. Quickly step to behind his forward leg and take his left arm and throw him over your leg. Or
use the vertical prawn boxing method to slap his 'mind point and grab his right wrist then step behind and using
the turning of your waist, throw him. Follow up with either knee to the ribs and/or fingers to the eyes.

POINT STRIKES: Strike the mind point on the chin. (See my point location diagrams).
Break Falls: The simple throw one leg up ward and fall onto the side of your shoulder slapping the ground with
your palm just before you hit.

BEGINNING OF FOURTH WEEK:

QIGONG: Full Qigong:

P'ENG: Using the hooked palm with two or one person. Using the fingers to P'eng. A little harder push on the
end
PUNCHING: Snap punching on the mitts. A little more advanced. This time we also move the mitt away and
have the puncher following 15 times then change step etc. Then we have the holder stand still and just move
the mitt after we have hit it. Round snap punching.
Barging attack. Your partner tries to close the gap as quickly as possible with a barging football type attack.
You use whatever is useful to knock him down before he reaches you, usually a few snap punches to his head
will do. Don't use the knee as this could also push you over.
REVERSE FULL NELSON:
This is used instead of the above technique for a barging type of attack. As he attacks turn slightly to either
side and take a step back with one foot to brace yourself. Go in at the waist to avoid his attack and slam your
forearm down onto his neck. Take your forearms under his and lock the palms around his upper back. Thrust
your buttocks forward and stand up slightly to lift his feet off the ground. Run forward onto any object and slam
his bum into it.
Long Arm Bar Take the block on the inside with both arms and strike to his face in the usual manner. Take
your left palm over his left attacking elbow arm while your right palm takes his left wrist with your thumb toward
you. Pull his left arm over until his flexed wrist in into your neck. You have an arm bar locked in with his palm
hooked under. Reverse your palms. You should be able to only use one hand for the finished lock. Turn it into
a figure four.

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

PALM WRIST FLEX: Take the block with your right palm to his left attack. Grab his palm and turn it
backwards. Turn your own body so that you now face to his rear but near his side and thrust your left palm
onto his face. Follow up. Take your left palm and bend his elbow putting great pressure onto his shoulder. Take
your foot around his and throw him as well.
QIGONG: Advanced squeezing Qigong with the strike afterwards in 3 different ways etc.
TECHNIQUE: Block with your right palm from the outside to his right attack with your right palm. Step in with
your right foot and then step to behind his right foot with your left foot. Strike him with your left elbow. Take his
right arm and break it by turning your body to your left levering the elbow across your chest. Take his balls and
throw him over your right hip.
Different: Take the block as before but this time attack his lower rib area. Then step in and leaning your body
across his. Take his wrist and pull him over your buttocks throwing him to the ground.

BEGINNING OF FIFTH WEEK:

Qigong: Full Qigong, also squeezing Qigong. Also with a partner and the palms etc.
P'eng: We always train in P'eng. So this week we do it in the single push hands mode with much pressure
between the wrists 20 times on each arm.
Ball Throwing: This is a training method to train instantaneous reaction. One person stands in the centre while
the others surround him at some distance. There are 4 tennis balls. The people on the four cardinal points are
the captains who direct who will throw the ball at the person in the centre. The person who is looking at the
centre person's back is the immediate captain. He points to who ever should throw the ball and shout as he
throws it. The person in the middle must catch the ball in one hand and throw it to someone else. Etc.
ELBOW: Strike using the elbow in a backward motion 20 times. Four different ways.

THROWS: Take block with right P'eng to his right fist. With your right foot forward take other leg around and
throw using only one palm and then using the other to help. Do this using the other foot forward first.
VARIATION: He resists so you change your weight to your back leg and take your left arm over his chest and
throw him over your leg still holding his right wrist.
VARIATION2: Step forward with your opposite foot to your P'eng and turn to his direction. Breaking his shoulder
over your shoulder. If he resists or steps back, take your back leg a step backwards and throw him over your
leg. If he again resists or steps back, take another step with your other foot and bend backwards.
ELBOWS: He holds two mitts, you strike the open mitt with your right upward elbow. Your left palm just
glances by the other mitt to set up the right cross elbow. You can then follow up with a right back fist to the
other mitt followed by a left palm.
TECHNIQUE: The technique from the last method is; he attacks with left fist, you block and come in with right
up elbow to his lower ribs. Another person comes in from the left with a low hook punch so you block it with
your left palm and cross your right elbow into his ribs. The other person comes back so you strike him with
back fist and palm.

SIXTH WEEK WAS REVISION: AND SIGNIFIES THE END OF THE FIRST SIX-WEEK PERIOD
PLUS:

TECHNIQUE: Block his left punch using right hinge block. Immediately take your right palm over and under his
arm to end up in a lock on the outside of his arm. Grab the elbow and have his palm under your arm as you
drag him into a left palm strike.
PA-KUA SNAKE: We trained in the technique of 'snake twists body'.

KICKING: Block his kick using hammer palm, punch, to mitt and kick to the inside of his knee. Block kick
from outside, round kick to the same leg, jumping back kick to his other knee. The standing foot must stamp

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

down as the other one makes contact.

Block his right punch with any technique, swing into a hook heel kick to his knee, then bring the toes across
in front for a strike to his groin.
BEGINNING OF SEVENTH WEEK:

LINKED TRAINING: This method is linked to the next. We use one mitt. Your partner holds one mitt low near
his ribs. He then attacks with a left jab. You block with hinge with your right and immediately attack with a pakua technique low to the mitt held at his ribs.
TRAINING: This method trains one's hands. It is used to bring one into Chee-sau. One partner throws a right
back fist. The other blocks with left hinge block. He then grabs that right wrist and attacks with left back fist.
You then block using right hinge block and repeat, grabbing his left back wrist and again attack using right
back fist.
To Change direction: After one person has defended using hinge block, you attack low slipping in underneath
with a snake palm technique from pa-kua, for instance if you block with your right hinge, you would use your
right snake palm. He would block with his left hammer palm downward and attack to your face with right fist or
palm. You would block with left hinge block and you have now changed direction. This change can come at any
time thus giving awareness.

FEET: Your partner attacks with kicks, you should either come straight in and to the side or roll back to avoid
the kick and come straight back in with a kick to his legs as his kicking leg is withdrawn or is placed down.
Any kick is OK just as long as it hurts.

LINKED TRAINING: This method is linked to the next. We hold a bag on the body and our partner places
different parts of his peripherals onto the bag. He then tries to attack from that distance for the greatest effect
etc. It is linked to the next because as your partner tries to get the lock on, we use that last technique to
attack him.

Beginning of eight week:

We started the small san-sau advanced method.
KICKING: We trained in the back kick, back turning kick. From a standing start and from the cross step.
PUSHING: We practiced some single push hands and tied this in with the elbow stroke onto the bag with the
partner pulling the bag to try and get you off balance.
HINGE: We did the hinge block and into the attack. We did the block up with hinge and down into the low
block hammer.
Turning Fist: We did the back turning fist onto the bag with and without the snap punch first.

BEGINNING OF NINTH WEEK:

INTERNAL: We started to enter the door of the internal.

Stand there. Feel the soles of your feet (barefoot). Squeeze the whole body downward slightly bending at the
knees, the arms hang super loosely at your sides. Feel the neck and base of skull; there should be 'a feeling'.
The buttock should tuck under automatically. You should be able to feel the weight distribution at the base of
your feet. Stay there for a moment. Then change the weight to the right foot, keeping those feelings intact by
complete relaxation. Keeping that state, slowly lift your left foot and step backwards so that the toe touches the
ground lightly behind you. Your arms should begin to rise up in front of you, right in front into an on-guard
position and come into play as your weight goes on to the left foot. Still holding that state. Bring the right foot
back to the left, weight on to it, turn your left toes in so that you are now back to your beginning posture.
Reverse so that you now step forward with your left foot. Then reverse the whole thing.

Pushing hands: We used single push hands using that aspect as above.

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

Double pushing hands using those aspects thinking about the mind being weighted at 70-30 not only the feet
etc.
TECHNIQUE: We used the technique from double push. He attacks with the step behind with his rear foot to
try and knock me down; I step back and step in with other foot to behind him to throw him over. I must put my
foot down flat onto the ground rather than try and lock it around his leg. I simply straighten my leg out, which
throws him over.
CHEE SAU: We did Chee-sau advanced. If he kicks, I hit him first, if he pulls me down, I kick him.
Taiji chee-sau (Sticking hands), is a very advanced and more realistic method of this exercise. We stand in
front of each other and touch at each wrist. We then circle the wrists thus giving each person an advantage at
one time or another to attack.

BEGINNING OF TENTH WEEK

We started as usual with Qigong. The we went in to the internal walking method as for week 9. This time we
brought the hands into it a little more.
We spoke about the principle of yin and yang with regards to potential energy build up and release. With a
yang hand or foot etc we have a build up of yin energy waiting to be used. With a yin hand we have the
reverse etc. We put this to work in the some form movements. Slight almost unnoticeable movements to gain
this energy release. Every movement must have this aspect. This is the advice in the classics, to distinguish
between yin and yang but not only on the purely physical level but at a mind level etc. Open and closing etc.
The feet must also walk in this manner, building up and releasing at all times as we walk, cat walking.
We stood in the Qigong stance and had our partner push us from the side. We noticed that when the energy
is sunk it is very difficult to push but if we lift the chest it is quite easy.
We did this principle in the bow stance with our partner pushing us from all different directions, sinking the
energy until we were just about to go and then turning slightly to dissipate the energy. We did this also in the
back-sitting stance.
We took this little further by having our partner push a little harder and faster thus causing us to move which
ever foot was appropriate but with a controlled movement, not plonking onto the foot so that we are in an
advantageous stance again.
Still on the basic principle we had our partner push us from behind while in a left bow stance first so that the
push causes us to have to move the right leg around to in front of us thus spinning us around and then into
the back sitting stance facing the opposite direction lifting the arms in defence etc. The main thing is to have
the control while the movement is happening.
TWO PERSON ATTACKS:
We took this aspect a step further by using a technique to demonstrate this principle. The main part of this is
not to forget about all of the above while being attacked and only think of the technique, this is not the
important part, but the controlled stepping with the mind under is the important part.
We are in the same stance, left foot forward. He attacks with right fist; I block and attack to his face with my
left palm while turning my left foot in. As soon as this attack is being felt the other person attacks from the
rear. I turn around as in the training method described above so that I am now facing him and blocking his
attack at the same time. I have moved away from him and have taken his arm to attack him. I am also able to
defend again from the rear if the first person comes back.
Another version: This time from pa-kua on the same idea. He attacks so I block his left fist with my right
palm and attack his eyes. At the same time another person comes in from behind so I take my right leg
around behind so that I am now facing the second opponent and as I block his first attack I slap my first
opponent in the groin. As I have moved away from the second attack in moving around, he will have to come in
again to attack so I am about to block and kick to his knees.
Push Hands: We used the single push hands with this idea of keeping the mind on the changing rather than
on the cause and effect at either end.
Keep the mind on the feet 70 / 30 at all times etc. Keep energy in the lesser-weighted foot. Then we will have
the upper hand as far as the advantageous position is concerned.

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

BEGINNING OF 11th WEEK:

We started with the Qigong and then went into the walk: Qigong as above. We went from there into the
pushing from different angles and postures etc and into the two person attacks.
We used a slightly different technique that of spinning into the back elbow as well as blocking the other attack.
ATTACK /DEFENCE. I attacked them with gloves and protection as they blocked with a left and attacked my
chest etc.
This is the only type of sparring we do in Taiji. Normally, sparring is the most damaging thing that you can do
for self-defence, it will in fact take you backwards as fights just do not happen that way! However,
'stack/defence' sparring is the most realistic way that you have of getting a more realistic feel for self-defence.
Your instructor (usually he or she has the control necessary) puts on all of the protective gear and lets you
know in no uncertain terms that he is going to knock your head off if you do not successfully defend against
his attacks. When the instructor is sure that you have successfully defended, then he will stop the onslaught!
FOOTWORK: Block his kick with my instep and attack his other leg with back kick, he kicks with other foot I
block and attack with other foot etc down the hall.
Forearm work: Bear from pa-kua up and down the hall.
This involves, you standing with both arms hanging by your sides opening up your kwa's. Your partner attacks
with left and right attacks as you spin around slamming his arms with your forearms. All he has to do is to
keep moving forward as you spin in all direction away and slamming his arms simultaneously.
Hinge blocking method. Plus the small hinge block and immediate attack under the ribs.
When using the small san-sau block, make sure that you come inside his fulcrum etc.
Pa-kua block from outside take step behind and attack to the groin or ribs etc.

BEGINNING OF TWELFTH WEEK:

QIGONG: We did the normal Qigong and then did the walking Qigong with mind stepping etc as last week. We
did the first part of the eight walks.
The 'eight walks' come from Baguazhang and involve walking very slowly brushing your ankles (a-la-bagwa)
together while performing totally unrelated hand and arm movements. This is to get your arms and feet moving
independently.
PUSH HANDS: We did the 'mechanics' of push hands:
QIGONG PUSHING: We did the pushing on the posture. This week we used P'eng. And Lu.
PA-KUA: We started the pa-kua linear form: With application:
The bagwa linear form is a very little known form from Bagwa that teaches us fighting. It is probably the most
energetic and tiring form of any martial system.
TAIJI: We began the prawn boxing.
Long har-ch'uan is a method from Taiji that teaches us about the 'no-mind' state.
MULTIPLE ATTACK: We did the pa-kua beginning method of multiple attack.
We added the push at the end of the multiple attack.

13th Week:

Technique: I block his left attack and attack his cv14 point with right hammer fist. We took this into a
hammerlock to hold down etc. We worked on point striking. Double dragon palm attack. The upper hand blocks
as the bottom hand strikes to the points.

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

We did the next part of the pa-kua linear form.

We did the first part of the prawn boxing.
We did the first part of the small san-sau with a partner and mixed it up etc.
We did the 1st silly walk: (The eight qigong walks)
Technique: From pa-kua: Simple, the left palm blocks as the right one comes and crosses over the top to
scratch the eyes.
Technique: We did from pa-kua the block to his right attack with our left palm as the right one attacks with
single pounding to the cv14. Either the left palm can be facing upward or down.

14th WEEK:
Qigong etc. Walking
Block his right attack with left pounding palm and hit him with right elbow. Lock his neck and pull him down or
rotate his head into a reverse neck lock or pull hit pull hit pull hit etc.]
Pushing: in different postures: two person attack: Knife attack training method using long sticks: Bumping
techniques:
Bend Backwards into throw. He blocks my attack and goes into bend backwards. I quickly take his arm and u
sing the leverage of his elbow and straightening of my leg throw him.
Hand Shaking Qigong: Moving without feeling etc. When you can get to this level (SUNG) , you are really
getting somewhere with you internal training. The fingers buzz at the end of each posture.
Used the posture 'Chee' as Qigong with one person pushing on the arm etc. Exploding the energy outward as
his feet leave the ground. Remember the two 'bows' back vertically and across the back laterally then release
the bows upon striking.
We did the cross snap kick onto the bag during single push hands as he gets into focus etc.
2 Person attack: We did the usual cross around step and block the second attack as well as the second
attacker attacks a 2nd time. If he doesn't, kick shit out of the first etc.
Hide behind the tree: Two attackers stand at 90 degs., to me, the first one attacks so I step in and block
and attack, then pull him in so that I am hiding behind him, as the other one comes in I push the first one
onto him, or hide and seek by poking at him as he tries to get me.
Training method: We had two attackers standing at equal distances and about 90 degrees apart from me with
me in the middle vector. They are equidistant to me. One attacks, the other one registers this and so attacks. I
attack whoever attacks first and then wait until the other one comes in and attack him usually with a kick. If
however, one person is closer I should attack that one first regardless of who attacks first.
QIGONG: We did squeezing Qigong: A special qigong that squeezes the Qi into the marrow.
Beginning of 15th week:

HIT TIGER: A technique from both styles. He attacks with right hook, I hit his 'mind point on his jaw before his
fist makes contact at the same time my left palm is ready to block just in case, The right fist reflects off of his
jaw and slams the inside part of his biceps as the left palm takes his right wrist as the right hammer fist
slams into his temple.
HOOK SNAP PUNCH: trained in the hook snap punch into the mitt demonstrating that with the thumb in the
peculiar Taiji position of flush with the index finger we gain twice as much power as the whole fist in this
position is in total alignment. You just get that 'something extra with the fist in this position.
Grabs: Getting out of holds from the rear: I demonstrated on George that sometimes pinching the inside of the
thigh when caught in a very strong head lock doesn't always work (some people have totally insensitive thighs)
So I demonstrated the chin tuck and throw with George floating across the room to land on his back. Grabs
from the rear: When fighting a group, it must be fast. So firstly I demonstrated all of the usual releases,
stepping behind and opening and throwing, the head tuck and pull, but the most effective and quickest was
either the head throwing backwards onto his nose or the pa-kua method of thrusting the bum out as the
forearms throw upward. We had to get out of the hold before the other person came in from the front and
defend against him as well.
converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

FORM: We did the one person holding the arms to create pressure as the other person did the form. We used
a shirt or piece of material to hold the person when moving forward and placed the palm on his back when
moving back.
QIGONG: Did the 'squeezing Qigong' as well as the one-step Qigong. Did the palms against palms and pushing
then retreating etc.
Technique: We did the block with left palm as the elbow attacks the face, then slam his jugular with the ulna
then the hook around the neck and pull down into the knee and peripherals of that technique.
Multiple attack: We did the usual two-person attack one from behind. This time we did the attack onto the
first partner if the second did not come in etc.
Multiple attack: We did the 90 degree attacks using the first person as a 'tree' and pick the second off as he
comes in etc. We did the sensitivity training of the two attackers standing at 90 degrees to you and the first
one to attack you cops it etc.
Block from old yang style, brush knee twist step:
Prawn boxing: Pa-kua Pauchui:

BEGINNING OF SIXTEENTH WEEK:

We began With Qigong: Squeezing and normal stepping.
PUNCHING: We trained in the correct Taiji punch with the thumb held in there tightly and saw how much extra
power it generated etc. We did the Taiji punch from all directions. Low with the hook on the end. We showed
how the punch to the face actually twists slightly upward upon impact and that the lower punches turn as the
fist comes down etc.
ELBOW: We did the elbow using the Taiji punch. We held the mitt to the side of the big bag and had to punch
the mitt as well as strike the bag with elbow simultaneously.
DIM-MAK: We trained in the Dim Mak to the middle of the shoulder blade and how to get in. We blocked low
to a rounder punch using a hinge block and snaked the palm underneath to take a wrist and elbow lock as we
struck the point. This is a small intestine point so the fix up is a squeeze on the outside of the small finger.
Takes out the whole arm.
Extras: We carried on from the above to grab the head and face and drag him backwards onto the ground etc.
Multiple: We used the training method from pa-kua of walking through the line up and using the pa-kua method
and stepping out of the way to behind the first person while blocking the second etc.
SINGLE POUNDING: We did the single pounding palm on the big bags etc. Also from the 90 degree angle. We
did it with a partner dodging the attack and coming in from the side.
Extra: We took another step from the previous into the spinning elbow or palm etc. Be sure to step in close.
CHICKEN WING: Take the same block as for the small intestine dim-mak and slap the wrist into the lock as
you take your other palm around his neck and join it up with the other palm to form chicken wing.
OLD YANG: We did the lock from the old yang style at the end of the third. Both ways.
LONG ARM BAR: We blocked his attack and struck his face and then took the right palm over his right elbow
to pull him into the long arm bar.

PA-KUA TRAINING:
FOOTWORK: This trains the very fast stepping method etc. People firstly stand in a line in front of one person.
The first person comes in with an attack. He blocks with the peculiar pa-kua method with left hand while the
right comes underneath and attacks. He has to step around to behind the first person and block the second
and do the same thing, then the next one comes in and it is repeated. We can also do this with many people
in all different directions to improve the stepping.
BEGINNING OF 17th Week:

Wrestling We did some of the techniques from the video: Nei Gwan block and step over and sit. Kick and sit.
converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

Long Arm Bar. Block and go into it.

ADVANCED QIGONG: We did the eyes looking from left to right as the Qi flowed up the backbone and back
down etc. To allow the Qi to rise to middle tan-tien to be turned into jing and then up to upper tan-tien to be
turned into Shen. We did this 36 times, as this is the positive No. in Taoism. Then we sent the Qi back down
to the tan-tien where it will be centred by using the reverse breathing technique 24 times. As this is a negative
number. We finished be bringing the both palms up and breathing in and the bringing them together while
pressing the fingers together without the palms so that the fingers are almost 90 degrees to the palms this has
the effect of expelling and cleansing and toxins etc. breathe out of the mouth to expel any bad things that
might have gone in while performing the advanced purifying Qigong.
PUSH HANDS: We did the holding of the wrists by one partner and then getting the idea of actually moving in
a slanting movement rather than a backwards/forwards movement etc.

BEGINNING OF EIGHTEENTH WEEK:

QIGONG: We did the more advanced looking cross eyed as you breathe in and looking back to normal as you
breathe out bringing the up an down circulation again etc. we finished with the tongue pressing onto the lower
palate to bring the fire down and centre the Qi once again in the tan-tien. We did the opening of the gates
Qigong: Normal Qigong with the finger on the tan-tien etc.

TECHNIQUE: He attacks with a lunge (knife?) you step to the side to avoid as you take one arm across his
neck and the other one lays avcr9oss his arm. You then break the arm by opening up your arms and levering
his arm across your chest.
VARIATION: We used the second method where the attacker has a knife. This is when we must actually grab
the hand and use the knee to strike the inside of his knee to throw him to the ground. We followed this up
with reverse long arm bar.

WRESTLING: We did the refs hold and tried to pull each other over etc. We then went into techniques from
that position and then on to trying to detect the attack and attack with what ever is appropriate etc. From here
we went into the hammerlock and also into the short arm bar. Chicken wing, turkey wing. Cobra Hold.

PA-KUA: We did the next movement from the pauchui form and application.

REVISION: We revised the rest of the techniques from the previous weeks.

NINETEENTH WEEK:

TRAINING: We did the fist under elbow training method: I.e.; the hands are held as in the posture and your
partner throws a punch, you should block it down with your leading palm and then attack with the other palm
over the top to his head etc.
POINTS: If you strike the carotid artery, there is the Carotid Sinus, which is a pressure sensor, which senses
the blood pressure. If it is struck it will register too high blood pressure and fainting will occur.
TRAINING: We did the 'fire punch' training method. I.e. slap down and attack with the fist under elbow strike for
the old yang style with t step forward as you do it etc.
Training: We did the block and arm lock then reverse and take down: I.e. we blocked his left attack with
single pounding palm to attack his face then take that palm back and wrap his arm up step around to break
his arm and then step again taking his wrist into a writs lock to throw him down the other way.

TWENTIETH WEEK:

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

We talked about REAL POWER: Not just physical power but power derived from within for changing one's
circumstances etc. Drop the physical and enter the internal/.
PUSH HANDS: Practiced with different partners and swapped etc.
TECHNIQUES/TRAINING: Did the hsin-I training methods etc.
TECHNIQUE: Did the two handed push against an attack etc.
FEET: Did the back turning back kick into the bag. Side kick.
TRAINING: Did the pushing each other and try and get into the correct stance to maintain stability.
Punching: Did the snap punch and others on the hard mitts.
TECHNIQUE: Did the block with P'eng to his right punch, hands around behind and slam his back with palms
and then onto knee etc.

21st week:

MULTIPLE ATTACKS: We did the two people using bags and attacking the 'piggy in the middle' by barging in
at him and hitting him with the bags etc. He has to get out of the way and attack each bag in turn with any
technique, preferable elbows but not important.
PA-KUA We did the walking through the line up using the pa-kua method of hands sliding under.
FOOTWORK: Step forwards; turn front foot in and then takes rear foot around as in multiple attack training.
Then spin around to face opposite direction weight on front leg. Then, using 3 people attacking in front and
behind, do same technique using elbow stroke on turn around and then jump forward bringing rear leg forward
and donkey kick out to rear to attack oncoming person. Hiding behind tree training. Etc. Do back spinning kick
to first person's legs and then pulling him, jump to behind him at wait for second etc.
BAG WORK: Step to side as first person comes in with bag. Strike it with po8unding palm. Do the same
footwork to turn and face other person coming in, block the bag twice and attack it with elbow, then step
forward between two bags and again using same footwork attack first bag.
HSIN-I: We used the two methods to train. Outside and inside etc.
FINGERS: We trained in the use of fingers to the eyes etc. using bags and punch mitts. We also used the
thumb method of striking etc.
22nd Week:

PUSH HANDS: We did the different methods. Firstly, the normal double push hands. Then the high double push
hands. This is where the opponent pushes high to our upper head as we ward off high and take it over etc.
Then we did the Hammer push hands, this is where each opponent, instead of bringing the arm which is not
penging over the top of the elbow, brings it under and on top so that it hammers down onto the arm. Lateral,
thrusting push hands: To get into this method, instead of just pushing back onto his chee arm (P'eng) I pull it
over to my side, the direction that it is going, he goes with the force and thrusts his arm out in that direction
as he thrusts his other arm out to my chest. I should attack that arm as he thrusts it outward to avoid me.
Then his other arm comes up underneath and pull my arm across for pull back. Now with each push we should
both thrus6t our respective being pushed P'eng arms out to the side then across our bodies as we sit back and
grab the arm with both hands etc.

POINTS: We talked about and used the wrist set up points for a neck or face strike.
TECHNIQUES: We did techniques from the form and discussed how they work in a nerve point method.
Preparation, arn left, block right and left. Square Pa-Kua blocking method of pounding palm. We extended the
arn left method by taking the choker hold and pushing the arm up over his head.
23rd Week:

We carried on with the techniques from the form, the inner techniques etc.
Snake fingers: We did the snake fingers training method.
converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

High pat on horse: We did the high pat on horse training method.
Training We had out partner attack with any punch and we had to attack with simultaneous block and attack
to a vital point.
Technique: We did the inside block to his attack and attacked his face with slap. This front foot is turned
inward. We did a spin around to attack his face or neck further with back spinning elbow. We took that further
by attacking the eyes with our other hand while taking our elbow hand under his axilla to hip throw to the
ground.
PUSH HANDS We did double pushing and single pushing concentrating upon the grounding etc. And the double
circles. We did the advanced method of not taking the arm under his elbow but rather using hinge block.
We did the old hinge blocking methods.
POINTS: SI/11 middle of shoulder blade. From P'eng into wrist grab and strike the point. Did it from the second
method of arn left. Strike to the point if too big. Striking the heart point on the inner arm, H3. Using the hinge
block to do this or using the prawn boxing method to strike to the face and then to this point. Doing it from the
old shirt grab. Doing it using the old slap and tickle and then the follow up to the temple etc. Striking the
triceps after the old arn left to TW/12 to take down. Do the P'eng block and grab into the old elbow breaker but
do it on the open side to attack to H3. Strike to Sp/16 After hinge block on outside and P'eng on outside
(training method Hinge/ P'eng).

WEEK 24:
POINTS: Spleen 20 half way between armpit and shoulder top. Lung 1 and two on top of these up more on the
shoulder.
POINTS: Kidney 5 Strike with a leg sweep. Do not try for leg sweeps but rather use the kidney5 strike.
APPLICATION: Single Whip demonstrates the use of the kick to K5 with a strike to cv17 mid nipples.
Hip throw from a two handed attack. Move in and take both arms under his step in and lock your hip into his,
throw him to the ground.
Step in blocking his arms outward, take his one arm and throw him to the ground, always follow up with eye
attack or controlling lock.
Step in and open up with arms across his chest take foot around to the rear and throw him over your leg,
follow up.
Take a punch with one hand and lock it in 20 times. Strike using hinge forearm 20 times on each arm. And
both ways. Strike using low punch with snap.
Application: Step to the outside in a 'v' and attack the upper arm at TW 12 with thumb. The break.
PA-KUA We did the first application of the san-sau.

25th Week:
POINTS: Sealing the air. Take his block with a hinge on the inside and take his wrist with the other hand while
the hinged hand attacks up underneath the upper arm so that the muscles around that point, the lungs
constrict etc. Strike to the upper part of the pectoral to do same. Lung 1 and 2. Spleen 20 Spleen 16 TW 12.
GB 42. L3 C10 C 4
Techniques, Points. Lift Hands, in form the palms move in opposite directions to strike against the flow of
energy on both sides. Single Whip; attack to the CV chest point and also to K5.
26th Week:
Protecting the Points:
We did practice to protect the acu-points so that they will not be so damaged if struck. Bladder points on
either side of backbone. We did the half type of double push hands with arm coming over instead of under the
other arm then push back etc. We did the CV14 protection by having someone pushing on our upper abdomen
near the diaphragm and breathing in using reverse breath and then pushing the person away using reverse out
breath. We protected the wrist points by using the 'open close ' method of P'eng and grab using fingers to dig
converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

in etc. We protected the upper forearm by using the stick training methods.
Qigong: We did the one foot on top of the 0other foot and trying to maintain balance using just the mind to
centre.
POINTS: Stomach 15 and 16. Attacked it with slant flying Just on the pectoral in line with the armpit.

WEEK 27:
TECHNIQUES: Hit Him before he hits you training. Your partner throws a straight punch and you slip block and
attack with palm or fist on the outside. He throws another rounder type punch so you slip block it on the inside
and attack to the face.
Techniques: Elbow to face and block outward to rounder type attack. Pull down onto knee. Punch him to the
face before he hits you but watch his hand, block it with your other hand.
V stepping: We trained in V stepping and blocking (hammer fist to leg points. GB 31 halfway down the outside
of the thigh. GB 32 about one hand down from that. GB 33 just above outside of knee GB 34 Jut below the
outside of knee. Spleen 8: About one hand down from the knee on the inside of the thigh. SP 9 Just below the
knee cap on the inside of the leg, not quite below it. SP 7 just below SP 8 about one hand.
Technique: V step and strike to GB 24 just inside of second rib cartilage. OR SP 16. Just below lowest rib.
Technique: Block his hand from the outside and simultaneously attack to those two points either with elbow or
fist and palm. Trip up and attack eyes on the ground.
STICK: Training methods: Four strikes and parries using small stick against longer stick etc. Short sticks;
Hinge block to his round attack with palm inside of stick for added strength, take over his stick with your palm
and attack to other side of neck with your stick, he blocks in the same way and repeats etc.
Alternative: We actually grabbed the stick out of his hand and then came in for the strike.
Longer stick: Low attack from him, I block it using my stick in a downward manner if he attacks to my right
side I should have my right hand on top of my stick. I immediately use a hook parry to throw his stick over to
my left and come straight in for a jab to GB 24 or SP 16.
Alternative: We blocked in the same way but now we took the stick over his wrist and took his stick in our
hands as we broke the wrist to disarm him. Both ways open and closed.
28th week:
STICK: Training method of attack and defence with the partner attacking anywhere and we defending with a
simultaneous block and attack: we also tried to disarm him sometimes.
Exercise: Standing opposite your partner and he attacks with a strike to lower on the body. You simply block
his attack and re-attack and then he does the same again. The initial attacks should be with substantial power
to allow you partner to get the exercise in blocking etc.
Pushing: We did the interim double push hands with power and speed.
Points: GB 14 one cun over the eye to cause knock out from low blood pressure etc. For this we use 'double
P'eng. To attack to the carotid centre and then as we roll the palms over we take the carotid sinus with the left
hand and attack with a downward strike to the GB 14 points over either eye.

EXERCISE: We did the two person sets of pushing on both palms. You push as he pushes onto your other
palm etc. Turn the waist. Waist training and excellent upper body training. We advanced onto the punch/take
routine where he and you have a mitt on the same hands and we strike the mitt and take his blow etc. Moving
around in circles always turning the waist. FEET: We did the leg exercises of placing the bag onto our bodies
and having our partner place his foot onto the bag just short of fully extended. He then pushes (kicks) the bag
to full extend using both legs and we push him back without him putting his foot down. We did this with the
back kick as well.
STICK: We did the stick form as well as the training methods of, He attacks in the same way as to start the
two person form, I block and attack to the head as normal. This time he blocks the stick with the end of his
stick with his mind on the ends of the stick and comes in with a jab to the GB 24 Point.
29th Week:
HANDS: Figure 8 punching onto bag. Back type fist followed by a hook low punch continuous.
Technique: Block his lower type attack with left palm step in and break arm with right hinge. His arm is now

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

around your back.

POINTS: LI 12 Just above the elbow and on the outside of the arm causes great pain when used in conjunction
with a lock. TRAINING: Slip block his attack and dig your fingers into this point as you attack to this face with
the other hand. Or Slip block with the right hand and slip that hand down to his wrist points while the other
hand takes the point on the upper arm LI 12.
TRAINING: Take a lock from anywhere after a block. Grab from behind, into finger locks etc.
POINTS: Gall Bladder 31 and 32. on the outside of the thigh. (The schoolboy's attack.) One hand from wrist to
tip of fingers from hip down on the very outside of thigh, for 31 then about the width of a hand down for 32.
TRAINING: We did the 'hit tiger right and left' training method on the open and closed sides and both sides.
Short sticks: Block using hinge and attack low to the other side as he blocks down hitting your hand (top of
stick) and attacks in to the carotid area. Block using stick over your outside forearm and slap his arm as you
attack to his face.

30th Week
We trained in point striking using the mists and persons. We took the block and attacked to the GB24 point.
We used the knuckles to attack to the bridge of the nose. We used the one knuckle strike to attack downward
to the GB 14 point just above the eyes. We used the knife-edge to attack to the carotid sinus points. We used
the knee on the GB 31 and 32 points. We used the palm to strike down upon the Stomach 15 and 16. We
used the fingers to attack to the SP 20 point. We used grabs to attack to the LI 10 and 12 points and attacks
to TW 12 on the triceps.

31st week:
Trained in point striking GB 14 just above eye using the simultaneous P'eng block to any attack and slam
downward onto these points using the 'knuckles with the fist facing down. We also then came down the fact to
the bridge of the nose with this strike as well as to the stomach points 14 & 15 using palm strikes.
KICKING: We trained in the back turning kick using a partner to hold th4e bag. We then trained in the back
kick and then had the partner charge in with the bag so that we could get the correct timing etc. we then had
the partner travel around a circle with us in the centre in the optimal back kicking position just swivelling on the
rear foot never taking the weight off the rear foot so that we were ready to kick at any time our partner moved
in toward us. If we were a little out with our optimal stance then we had to use the front kick. We then placed
the foot down and turned in to a back turning kick 3with the partner just circling at optimal distance.
POINTS: We used the stomach points on either side of the pectorals using the posture known as 'push'
however, there are no pushes in T'ai chi they are fa-jing strikes to these points with the points being twisted
upon impact. We did 'apparent close up', grab from behind and taken into finger lock and turn into cross hands
taking him down very painful.
San-Sau: Advanced san-sau beginning with both partners attacking and defending just upper and lowers. Then
into wristlock with the wrist being twisted as it is taken down. Then as well a strike to either TW12 or C12.
History We had a history lesson with regard to T'ai chi being the most deadly fighting art ever and why it is so
and why no one knows why!

32nd Week

Form study: Went over anything that the troops wanted to know about forms etc.
Legs: same as last week, back kicks, back turning kicks. Partner walking around the circle use back kick as
he increases speed or reverses direction, Back kick into Back turning kick, back kick into back spinning kick.
Push hands: Learned about the four direction push hands with either partner moving the yin leg to change
direction and attack etc.
Techniques: we used the push hands techniques in an attacking situation using P'eng and Lu to attack to the
GB 24 point. Used the end of step up parry and punch to attack to the same area. We
Folding: we trained in the folding technique. Then we trained in the snap punches to both mitts with the low
block and then trained with a partner to do this technique in a realistic situation.

33rd WEEK

Mainly form study. Plus:

Simultaneous defence and attack:
Your partner throws any punches at the correct distance. Firstly slowly and then increases them, as the
technique becomes better. You must simultaneously block his attack and strike him anywhere just as long as it
is a telling blow. Later you will only strike to points. If he doesn't throw the punch with the correct distance to
hit you then you must hold off or even move back. But if correct distance, then come in at attack.
Next. Then we have the partner throwing any kicking techniques and you must do the same thing.
Next: Then it is all out war with kicks or punches coming in at you etc. You must have the ability to knock
him out and cause the greatest amount of damage for the least possible energy usage. This is the culmination
of all that you have learnt over the past year. We have been aiming at this simultaneous attack/defence way.
Push hands: Learning to rely upon the inner lost skills. Don't worry if he pushes you just take it and slowly
the inner mind will emanate to help you. Just as long as you keep all of the Taiji principles in mind.

Small Circle Chin-Na Push Hands

This is the highest level of push hands. Here we cause the circles to be so small that the arms never lose
contact with each other. Your own arms that is. Your wrists seem to cross as you do the four main
movements. Using the hinge pushing technique, you will lock his wrist up with a very small circle using only
your body to gain the leverage and not your arms, this way he cannot escape. You allow each other to get
these locks on, as there is really no way to avoid it. Eventually we go to more devastating locks on the fingers
and hands etc. Now the body is doing the push hands and not the arms and hands etc. this is the highest
level.
Second Technique:
Instead of taking the wrist we take the palm backwards and take the small finger with our small finger to cause
great pain. Always using a twisting motion.
TECHNIQUES: From this position we can launch any number of techniques especially those using the elbows.
Training: I attack and he uses simultaneous defence attack methods. Then we go on to adding to this by him
re-attacking etc. We further this by having the attacker block his attacks as well. Then the attacker will not
only attack but also move out of the way of his re-attack and block his attack at the same time.
Jujitsu: Here, we train against jujitsu type attacks. The attacker runs at the defender to try and down him using
trips, throws etc. The attackee has to hit the attacker with such force and direction as to down his opponent in
one or two punches or point strikes.
Ground Work: We trained in getting up after being thrown and having the attacker sitting on top of us. If he is
on top, use the knees to strike him over our head and slip out through the back. Keep the elbows in close so
that that he cannot get his knees up high into the armpits. If you can, try and get his 'bladder 57' points and
press them hard. Try for point strikes to Stomach 9, Or to the gall bladder 24 or liver 13. Belt him in the balls.
Techniques: He rushes at us to try and take us down. We step in and attack with snap to the nose or side of
chin. Then follow up immediately with elbow and slap to the Stomach 9 point. Then we could follow with neck
grab and knee to the GB 24 point.
SMALL CIRCLE PUSHING:
This exercise now becomes total attack and defence. We learn here to bob and weave. We learn to open up
his defence and then attack and keep on attacking until he hits us etc.
Hinge Techniques:
I block his left attack using hinge and th4en straight away break the arm using my right arm up and my left
down.
PA-Kua Cross Blocking
The normal cross blocking plus changing the steps etc. I should change the step as I change the palms.
This is often called the 'bagwa hammer'. There is an old saying. "If you cannot defend yourself using one palm,
converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

then you ain't doing bagwa!" This method trains you to do exactly this.

POINTS
1/. While pulling the mind point back towards the chin, grab the back of the neck on either side (GB 20) and
squeeze gently. (Just under the two bones on either side. Just below the edge of the occipital.
There are some points that do not have any particular revival points as they simply cause death! Heart 3 is one
such point as it stops the heart from beating so in this case CPR is necessary.
2/. GB 14 should be struck in a downward strike like as if you hold your hand over the person's head and
strike downward across the point towards the side of the nose. The revival point for this one is again the back
of the neck while pushing the point back up towards the top of the head. You could also push using the thumb
GB 21 (right on top of the traps, that little sore bit. Also use SI 4 just on the outside of the wrist using light
pressure. On the palm towards you side, run up from little finger till just over the second wrist band, that little
hollow.
3/. H3 is struck so that the direction is towards you. So you could use the thumb knuckle (when using the Taiji
fist, the thumb is not closed around the fingers but rather flush with the second knuckle of the index finger.)
Simultaneously slap his attack on the outside of his attacking arm and strike using the thumb back towards
you. Revival: CPR If you happen to hit a nerve at that point an only arm damage is done, just massage that
point lightly away from you up his arm.
To Increase Blood Pressure:
4/. You could use CV4 (tan-tien) to cause the blood pressure to rise even further, struck straight inward. Same
for CV6. (1.5 cun down from navel) You can also use Spleen 20, (ON the top of the shoulder to the front, that
one!) this will also cause the blood pressure to increase. Bladder 62, (Hollow of ankle) stomp on side of heel)
TW8, (One palm up from wrist in between radius and ulna attack the outside of the forearm) Pericardium 6.
(Neigwan)
To cause the body to lose energy, lower blood pressure.
5/. Heart 5 is best to strike a pale and sallow person but why would you want to anyway if he were that sick!
H5 will cause the heart rate to drop instantly and thus lowering the blood pressure even more. (One cun above
wrist flexur on ulna artery)
6/. CV17 is the point in between the nipples and is a 'forbidden' point. It should be struck with a downward
strike (Repulse Monkey)] To Take energy away from the seat of power to drop hi8m.
7/. Using the T'ai chi form we do not have to know what direction the S15 & 16 is struck because it is there in
the form. However, If you are striking to the person's left side then you should use a clockwise screwing motion
and a counter direction on the other side. The palm twists as it strikes. The energy flow of these points is very
close to the surface and comes out in a spiral direction, hence the attack. You will only cause physical
damage to the area struck if you only strike using a normal type of straight in attack.
8/. Revival for K5 is K5 and K1. For Li3 Use L3 (lightly) or LI 13 (be careful with this one as there is a very
thin line between hurt and heal. Li13 is just between floating ri8b and next one up. In the crease of the waist.
9/. Revival for TW12 is to rub the point towards you. There is no revival for TW 17! Dead.
10/. If you can't see the opponent too well and the points cannot be got at, you should use GB31 and 32 using
a palm striking method, this will ensure that you get the point. Just attack to the outside of the thigh and you
will get something. Of you could us the inside of the thigh (as in blocking (hurting) kicks), L 8, 9 10. These
points will cause knockouts. To paralyse the legs use Bladder 57. LI 8 is just on the crease of the inside of
the knee. LI 9 is half way from knee to groin on the inside of the leg. L1 10 is just down from groin on inside
of thigh.
11/. If you learn the Taiji form, you do not have to actually learn the points, as the strikes are inherent in the
form. The best one for you would be the Yang Cheng-Fu form and perhaps later the Old Yang Style but both
have the deadly strikes.
12/. The body's physiological methods work no matter what state the person's mind is in. It is just a medical
fact that the blood pressure lowers if certain points are struck.

Questions again from David Warner:

1/. Revival point for C10 is C4 (dragon mouth). If internal damage has been done. All of these points of revival
are only relevant
Of course if you have not actually damaged the physical part that has been attacked.
converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

2/. Revival for any point which causes high blood pressure is stomach 9 but not too hard as knock out will
occur.
3/. Same as No.2 but if Spleen is hurt, then use Sp13 just below the ribs at side. Again not too hard.
4/. Again if knock out occurs, grab rear of neck and squeeze gently and lay person on side in foetal position. If
bladder is hurt it usually means a trip to the hospital but if not too bad, just pissing blood etc, treat K1 and
any of the Kidney 'SHU' points directly over the kidneys. Also you can use any of the bladder points going up
either side of the backbone.
5. Stomach 15 and 16 will not only lower the blood pressure, they will also stop the heart so CPR is
necessary
6/. For TW12 use a rubbing motion away from the body on the outside of the forearm and in the middle. Use
the knuckles etc to get right in there.
7/. Sleeper, if caused from carotid sinus activation. Again lay on side and squeeze back of neck gently until he
returns. If KO through blood supply cut off then sit him up with you in back of him and hold arms around waist
and chest and lift gently with a squeezing motion. Other than that use CPR.
8/. Use L3 here or GB 30 (other side of leg)
9/. Mind Point causes signals to not be received by brain and so time is the healer unless physical damage is
done. Mind Point is a 'special acu-point on no meridian.
2/. Yes this is correct. Downward strike causes lungs to constrict. Whereas screwing motion causes heart to
stop and low blood pressure.
3/. No contradiction here, The mind point is struck generally away from the body towards the back of the head
but you can increase the power of the strike by using what we call a twisting snap punch which actually also
sends a shock wave up into the brain so we have two things happening here. The energy actually comes out
slightly downward but it is quite difficult to get the twisting attack to go exactly against the energy flow using a
conventional strike so we usually tell people to just go straight in away from the head and that is sufficient.
Keep in mind that the brain can be anywhere from the base of the skull upward.
4/. To go into every Qi draining point will take up a whole book as many points are sometimes used in
conjunction with each other. For instance if you use the 'block left and right' postures from the Taiji form (wing
chun call this Bok Sau I think) then a number of points on the forearm are struck performing the block. This
has the effect of taking Qi away from the 'seat of power' the diaphragm. However, if you just wish to take
energy away then you should use a very dangerous point right on the top of the head called GV 22, GV 15
also has the same effect. I have been struck on GV22 and you just have to lie down afterwards, no energy left.
Liver 3 will cause massive loss of body Qi also. PC9 is also good for drainage of the whole body but is hard to
get at in a fight.
5/. Yes there is a way, Take a hammer..... And hit yourself, see what happens. No, not really but a little self
investigation really works wonders in the study of points and their effects. After many years of studying the
internal one just knows where to touch to heal. Eventually we don't have to know what points they are as the
hands and mind are just taken to those points. We 'see' internal swellings and constipation and we heal them
using the correct points. Many of the world's greatest acupuncturists couldn't tell you the names of half of the
points but ask them to heal something and they go right to the correct points.

Answers to Dave Warner's Questions July 25, 1990

1/. There are many other multiple strikes in Dim-Mak, some more complicated than others so we tend to
concentrate our energies on the simpler basic ones. Strike to CV14 and Tan-Tien points simultaneously using
fingers of both palms. (Embrace Tiger T.C.C.)
Strike to S.9 and GB24 using fingers of one hand for4 S.9 and heel palm of the other palm. (From 'The Twelve
Secret Circular Palm Striking Methods').
Block in a backward striking way on the outside of the forearm and at the same time attack to GB24. Or LV
13.
There are no fix its for the above as well as for any of the twelve secret methods. They are purely for killing!
2/. To fix the Nei Gwan point, strike the mirror point on the other side in a towards you direction ten times over
ten days, dusk and dawn. Herbs will help the internal flow of Qi only. Ginseng if male or Donquai if female.
3/. Yes these herbs are OK for all energy draining.

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

4/. Yes you can use just the fingers or thumb pressure on Neigwan or c.10 or 122. But, the doer must have
very strong hands and pressure in his fingers.
5/. No, there might have been a mistake here but the direction on the outside of the arm is always backwards
to hurt and forwards to heal. Sometimes the direction is however straight in on the back of the arm and can
cause different things to happen. I.e. straight in on TW12 will cause the person to have liver failure some time
later as well as the purely physical thing of a broken arm!
6/. No, you sometimes need to put in or to take our to either hurt or heal. This is a long time art and requires
many years of practice before you will know. It involves the idea of 'repulse monkey' from the T.C.C. Taking out
while going forward and in.
7/. Yes, GTB 24 or Lv 13 must be attacked in a CW or CCW direction ON his right side CW and visa versa.
Fix is depending upon how he is affected! But generally the GB or Liver points on the face and torso will work.
8/. The other meridians are the eight extra ones and they are too numerous to cover here it would take a whole
book! But Jung-Mei is one very important one and involves 'going in' to the body to reach it.
9/. The killing points must be struck in the right direction. Otherwise it will be only the physical effect of the
strike. There is an old classic; "Never neglect the seemingly unimportant," meaning that even on the foot thee
are killing points.
10/. Points on the either side of the wrist relating to the small intestine and Lung are useful. Especially when
the heart and lung are short-circuited.
11/. The triple warmer is the most important meridian because this is where the body's work is done to
maintain energy. So if any of these are struck it either causes death or an energy drain. So that the body is
unable to work. A little bit like putting your foot on the brake and accelerator at the same time.
Training Method: The four punch method from H'sin-I: Open arms outward and strike downward with right palm in
front to head as other palm blocks downward. Right palm makes fist and slams into throat as left palm again
slaps arm down. Right palm strikes to his right temple as other palm again strikes down. Right palm makes
tiger fist and attacks with it across the nose. The last step is across to the right bringing you to more in front
whereas the other steps brought you to his side.

34th WEEK
TRAINING INTERNAL: Stand in bow stance and have him push your chest using the 'two bows'. You should
take it for as long as you can without resisting and then use your own bow and throw him backwards.
Simultaneous attack/block: He attacks with right fist, you block using right P'eng as you step to his right with
your left foot and simultaneously attack with your left palm to his GB 24. Now he attacks with the same attack
as you block using left P'eng and attack to his stomach area or right rib area with your right palm.
Defence: We kick each other in the stomach area making sure that we attack the attacker with our belly
breathing out and pushing out our abdomen. Now our partner kicks. We must use our sub-conscious mind to
judge if the attack will be real or not. If it will hit us we must immediately move in and attack thus jamming his
kick. If it is not real and will not strike, then we must just move backwards enough but do not move back in!
We now do this with punches, however, now we must come in with every punch as our hands have more
mobility than our feet. As soon as he comes within our fighting range, we attack regardless of whether or not
he has attacked.
Technique:
Wrestling: He attacks with a punch, we come in as told above and block his punch and attack, we
immediately take his waist and throw him to the ground following up with fingers to the eyes etc.
Wrestle He attacks with right punch, we come in and blocking his arm upward, we strike with shoulder as we
take him down using the rear leg against his front leg and our hand across his chest.
Hinge training. He attacks with alternate strikes we use hinge to defend against them etc. Very good for
conditioning etc.
Technique: He attacks with right straight, I use right P'eng and left hinge simultaneously to block and attack
to his face by slipping over the top. I then take my right palm under his right arm into a reverse chicken wing
and step around behind to take him down using arm lock.
Training: I attack with hook, he defends using the first method from small san-sau and attacks to my S9
point. I now attack him with the same attack and we continue like that then we reverse the attacks and
defences.
Small san-sau: we do the three first attacks and defences but now I add the hinge attack after the third one to
converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

his lower ribs. He must block that one out of the way. I then attack with that same hand to continue.

35th WEEK
Four Small Ch'in Na Methods:
Using small circle pushing hands, I take the normal wrist lock but using the twist back towards his elbow etc.
The next one, I wrap my small finger around his index finger and lever downward and upward, I can at this
stage us my other palm to help in the levering upward. Next, I grab his two last fingers and wrap them up
taking my other palm on the top of his wrist to lever downward. Next, if we are doing right P'eng pushing
hands, I can take his right palm over slightly as if o pull down and then take his small finger or fingers and
lever them backwards using my other palm as the fulcrum across his wrist.
TRAINING METHOD: I attack with straight punch he defends using slip block to my face. I then use my other
fist to attack with haymaker so he uses small san-sau to block and attack to S.9.
TRAINING METHOD: Snake Fingers: He attacks with right straight, I block and simultaneously attack with
snake fingers with my right palm. I then attack with left straight and he does the opposite.
TRAINING: WRESTLING: We went into the refs hold and tried to throw each other over. But we made use of
the folding principle. When I feel the push on one side I attack on the other side to throw him over. We simply
grabbed each other and then thought about how we would counter this with the most devastating strikes. Then
we had our partner attack us as we used the most devastating two strikes to defend. We had to get the
aggression up at the first. Attack Defence sparring.

TECHNIQUE: Block his oncoming right arm with right P'eng. Step around behind and strike at GB20 just below
the big bone at the base of the skull and to the side etc. The follow up with a rake to the eyes as you pull
him backwards.

QIGONG: Advanced Pushing Hands Qigong with no breaks!

QIGONG Squeezing and packing Qigong taking palms out on in breath and bringing them back on out breath
with the body swaying etc. Finishing it off properly by either slapping the hands together after you and done the
cleansing fingers to fingers etc. Tongue on top or bottom etc. Or do the body striking iron shirt method to
finish:

This next section contains other things that we train in over the years.
THE TWELVE METHODS OF THE HANDS

1/. Firstly, we practice these techniques on the mitts to be sure that we have enough power to knock someone
out with the first attack. We must say to ourselves. The number 'one' and try to execute the technique in that
time and not one, two etc.
Then we do it with a partner attacking with any sort of attack; this can be a two-arm attack or one fist etc.
We simultaneously block his right arm with our pounding palm and attack to his face with a twisting fist, which
takes his nose off. That circles into a 'bent' fist into the neck area and as we move to his left we strike into his
carotid sinus area with the 'bat falls to earth' palm as the left palm pounds into his lower abdomen or is able to
block any counter attack. We then do it on the other side and while we are moving.

2/. The next attacking method is also used on the mitt first. Then we do it with a partner. Thus:
He attacks again with any kind of attack; we barge in with 'drilling' palm to the face and eyes with our left
fingers as our right palm attacks to the lower abdomen. Then this power is re-directed into a right penetration
punch to the temple area as the left palm now takes over the guard duties, the right fist immediately flows into
a backfist into the nose and then into a 'sideways turning palm' into the face. A slap with the right palm, thumb
upward.

converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

3/. This next method involves only the palms. He attacks with any sort of attack. So we again barge in with
simultaneous block with our left palm and eagle claw to the eyes with the right palm. This rolls into a back
palm across the nose and then into the 'nun offers food' palm to the chin pushing it backwards into the neck.
The right palm then takes a hold of anything that it can and drags it while the left palm again attacks to the
face.

4/. The right palm pounds across and cuts the right arm at the elbow of the attacker as we step across him to
our left. The left palm then snakes upward and across his face to claw him backward and our right pounding
palm crashes across the neck as he falls.

5/. Use sit back ready to jab to his eyes and simultaneously block his attack, you are in a natural right stance
now. Turn the finger jabs into a tiger paw fist upward to attack to his points under his nose. Turn the right palm
over and attack to his GB 14 with a downward stroke and change step as you do this to the side. Attack to
his face with a left palm as you grab his left arm as in the third one. Then follow with a reverse elbow to his
lower rib area.
6/. Again attack and block with snake fingers in natural. Take his left arm with right palm as the left palm
pounds into the right side of his face, Now the snake fingers of the right palm again attack to his carotid points
as well as the thumb into his pit of his neck. Now the right palm takes the back of his neck and as you
change the step, pull on his neck as your left palm attacks to the forehead thus breaking the neck.
7/. Slam his forearm with your right fist as he attacks with right fist. The right fist immediately grabs the right
arm and the left palm breaks the arm at the elbow. The left palm now keeps the right arm still as the right
palm attacks to the neck with knife-edge palm under the chin. Now, the right palm takes around the back of
the neck and pull sit forward as the left knife edge cuts upward into the neck. Now the left palm takes the
back of him and pulls him forward as the right palm attacks to his face or neck.
8/. Slam his right attack with the back of your right palm. Now slam his left palm with the back of the same
palm as the left finger jab to his eyes. Hook the right palm over his left elbow and lift the elbow upward locking
his left palm under your arm thus breaking his arm. Snake your left palm under his left palm and lift it upward
as your right hammer fist slams into his GB24 or L14 points at his lower ribs area.
9/. Take his attack with two palms, fingers downward and pointing towards him, (spear fingers). Open side or
closed side. Jab into the pit of his neck, CV 22. Now force his head backward by slamming into under his chin
with both the backs of the palms- fa-jing. Now both palms slam down into his S9 points on both sides. Then
push his head over to your right with your left palm as your right palm snakes around over the top of your left
palm, around the back of his neck and turn his head upward so that his neck is pointing upward and cut down
across his neck with the knife edge of your left palm.
10/. Same as for the fist attack with the punch to the face. The left palm snakes across the right side of his
neck to grab around the back to pull his head forward onto your right tiger paw into CV22. Now the palm of the
left palm slams into his face as the right palm snakes under it to grab his neck again to drag him forward onto
your right knee as the left palm slams into his SI, 11.
11/. Slam his right arm at the elbow to block, bring that same palm up into his face with the back of the palm.
Claw down into his eyes as the palm takes over his initial attacking hand as your left elbow comes across
attacking to his neck.
12/. Same attack as the first one using the fist. That fist comes back to attack laterally to the carotid sinus as
the left palm attacks to the side of the jaw at the same time. Then both fists and palms come back again to
attack laterally in the opposite direction to the jaw and neck. Then both tiger fists attack to the neck straight in
to CV22. Now both palms take around the back of the neck and jerk it forward and out to the side to break the
neck and then come back with hinge elbow to the neck.
THE UMBRELLA: This is the finish to the twelve and it involves using any of the above in a realistic sense.

Technique: He attacks with straight so I avoid it by stepping to the side and attacking to his temple with
upward turning fist while cutting across his attacking arm. I force the temple bone upward from the bottom of
the skull.
FISHES IN 8: The last technique was a part of fishes in 8. As a follow up to that we now slap his arm with
the left palm and simultaneously attack to his neck with the right palm.
Fishes in 8: Continued. Now we do the real fishes in 8 by blocking his right attack with our right palm as we
thrust the fingers of the left palm into his neck. As a follow up we grab his arm with the left palm as we chop
across his neck with the right palm.
FORM CLOSING AND OPENING: This is the most advanced form from Taiji. This is where we not only perform
converted by W eb2PDFConvert.com

the opening and closing of each posture but also have a small closing within the opening and a small opening
within the closing to represent the yin-yang symbol. We also have the big opening and closing within the whole
form where-by the form itself opens and closes then opens. Open up to the hitting tiger then closed from there
up till the fair lady postures then open again to the end!
Form: Old yang Style, opening movement: The Shake and the change of weight and turning 0of the body. The
technique that goes with that movement shake.
Eyes: The eyes must take in the whole area that the other body takes up and not just the different portions of
the body. Just as the eagle takes in the space in space that it takes up so must we learn to use the wideangle peripheral and the close angle peripherals. When he moves, because we are taking in and locked onto
his 'space' so too does our perception of that space changes as he does and so we subconsciously change to
accommodate his different movement (attacking etc). We do not focus upon the body, as it is now and then
refocus on it when it has changed, this is how we get hit. Our short angle peripheral focus changes with his
changes and so we are able to judge exactly what it is he is up to before it comes too close.
Technique: This technique takes in the above principle. Our attacker takes his left fist for instance and attacks
with a straight, we are locked on to his space with our vision and so we immediately move to the side and
come in as we dodge his attack and turning our body so that it is backwards to the opponent, we attack with
swinging right forearm to his lower rib area.
Training Dim Mak training. Using grasp swallow's tail. He attacks with left, I step up and block it with both
palms in grasp [swallow's tail configuration. (From old Yang style after slant flying and fair lady). I then slam my
right palm down ward onto his heart.
Shaking fingers Block and simultaneously shake the fingers of the other palm into his eyes.
Training: Using Penetration punch, we first of all train on the mitt to get the power then we train with a partner
who just puts his arm there for us to strike on the inside of and come in to the temple etc. Then he actually
attacks with straight punch so that we have to defend using penetration.
Techniques: Hinge snap to under arm. We block using the pa-kua method on the outside slip blocking up his
arm, then we come in under his armpit with hinge using the wrist to snap upward forcing the forearm in under
the axilla.
NB TRAINING: From advanced pushing hands. He strikes with right straight; I block with left palm from the
outside. I can also use my right 'step forward, parry and punch fist to also block this punch from the outside. I
then attack to his head with right palm which he has to block using his left P'eng reverse and simultaneously
attack to my face with his right palm. We can also use peripherals of these using lower attacks etc. this is an
excellent way of getting the energy going.

Qigong: This Qigong is for to gain the power for the attacks. You hold the hands so that the thumb, index and
second finger touch using only the pressure form the relaxed arms. You do this in both positions, over the tantien and over the 3rd eye point.

Training: Stand in 'on guard' position. I slap his arm and attack with front jab. As soon as he feels me retreat,
he does the same. Then as soon as he retreats I attack with grasp bird's tail and he does as soon as I
retreat.
Technique. From Cheng-fu, After kick when you put your right fist onto your right knee and do the punch low
posture. He attacks with right, I block it with right palm and grab it snapping his wrist down to my knee as my
left palm attacks to his face, my left palm then takes over the right hand and takes it over to his right as my
right palm attacks and I step in to him.
Brush Knee, Old Yang, Another use is to take his neck with the upper hand and pull him onto your knee as it
comes through.
Push Hands, Using the 'wave' from the feet up to the hands. Bot legs spring up as the palms attack.
Training: Use first part of vertical Prawn. But instead of just leaving the controlling arm there, grab it. Do this
four times, outside right, inside right and then both on the left. Two straight punches.
Technique: From old Yang style, End bit. Go in at waist and take his attack, take his arm and step out of
range of his kick attacking the side of his knee or his groin with left palm. Another attacks from rear or side,
you swing right arm around to block it and attack to his face, then you break that arm by taking your left palm
over to his elbow and your right palm takes his wrist to break. Then the right palm attacks to the face. Now
the right palm takes around his neck to pull him forward to y6our right side as your left fingers attack to the St
9 point. Your left foot has attacked to his GB 42 point on his foot. Your right arm now blocks the previous

attacker's attack and you do lotus kick to his kidneys. You then block his left attack with your right palm and
break it with fist, as your left fist attacks to his lower abdomen, He attacks with right so you slam it upward to
heart points and grab his wrist pulling him forward and then lock his wrist into controlling position.
Pa-Kua: Use of the walking to attack tot he legs. Opening up technique trains both the upper and lower subconscious reactions.

LEGS: Back turning kick, 20 on the bag. Low heel kick, by 20. Front snap kick using ball of foot.
FOOTWORK: Cross step: your partner pushes you, cross step again, your partner pushes you. Reverse step,
he pushes you to gain timing and balance. From wall, keep foot on back wall and do cross step etc.
TECHNIQUES: Block over the top with right palm to his left palm on outside and attack the face, kick leg and
lock the arm onto the ground. Block over the top and hook the chin pulling him downward with a knee in the
ribs.

Strike using the single pounding palm 20 times in both natural and reverse stance. Also from the '90 degrees.'
way.
Strike using overturned fist from different angles.
Strike using downward moving fist.
Strike using low hooked fist.
Strike using one knuckle punch. And thumb attack.
Strike using penetration punch.
Strike using hammer fist.
Take the Neigwan point after a block.

WRESTLING: This is to train the whole body in combat. It does not necessarily mean that we are going to use
these techniques but some of them come in handy in close and it's good exercise.

COBRA HOLD: Block his both arms outward. Take his right arm and push it to your right, which turns him
around as you take his left wrist and drag it around his neck. Your left forearm goes under his left forearm and
around his neck. You use the blade side of your left wrist and the blade side of your right.
ABDOMINAL STRETCH: Take the block from his right attack and slam his face with your left palm to stun him.
Immediately take your left palm across the back of his neck and jump around behind him locking your left foot
in around the front of his left knee. You then lock your own fingers together with a finger grab and stretch him
sideways. Careful, very painful, good for torture!
CHICKEN WING: FORWARD HAMMER:
Take block with your right palm to his lower right palm. Hook it under and turn to face his back locking his arm
in to the hammer. Take your other arm around his neck and join your fingers up thus locking his neck as well.
TURKEY WING: Block his left with your right from the outside. Lock it into a hammer. Holding his arm in the
hammer take your other arm around his neck and lock your fingers together.

TECHNIQUE: P'eng his right fist, step in with right foot close, take your right arm over his back and lift your
right knee sending him onto the ground with your both arms.
OR: P'eng his right arm and take it over behind you. You are now in a position to souflex him by taking your
right arm around his waist whish joins with your left palm on the underneath side. Flip him over after you have
kneed him.
POINT STRIKE: This is to train the very effective one knuckle punch. We can use this is a downward motion to
lessen any damage to ourselves. It can be used straight down the front of the face in a slapping lotion.
TECHNIQUE: Take a block on the inside and slice the one knuckle across the under side of his nose.
Take a block to his right attack with your left pounding palm, come straight over the top using one knuckle

down the front of his forehead.

TRAINING: Use curved front snap punch. (The one with more power) on the mitt. Your partner immediately pulls
the mitt and re-attacks. You block it using the NO.1 palm from pa-kua and attack to his face with left palm. He
has pulled the mitt back for you to strike. Step in and use right elbow to the mitt. Take his head with your
right palm and pull him onto your right knee. Step around behind with your right foot and throw him onto the
ground. Follow up.
Sydney workshop 1991:
Connectivity training. Push Shoulder, with palm, elbow, and shoulder. Technique: He attacks with both, I block
high & low to open him up for shoulder then continue with palm to neck.
