Israel-Palestine Crisis and Egypt

Although Egypt, an Arab nation, strongly supports the Palestinian right of return and the
reunification of Palestine, we also believe that the Jewish people need their own country so that
they may have the freedoms that all people deserve.

PARAGRAPH ONE
As the Arab Republic of Egypt, we believe that both countries need to have their own
states. We were one of the first supporters of Palestine in the early 50s and provided them with
military and economic support so that they could fight against Israel. Although in more recent
history we have also provided support to Israel so that they could fight against Hamas, the
Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood which was banned by Egypt for their extremist
anti-semitic views.(Lynch) During the last 27 years more than 31,000 Palestinians and 4,500
Israelis have died(Procon.org) due to the fight over land. If both Nations were given their own
land we could avoid potential loss of life and create an area that both states could call home.

PARAGRAPH TWO
The Arab Republic of Egypt believes that a two-state solution could solve the current
problem in Israel and Palestine. However, while both states need to have their own land, if the
land is split then both halves of the land will have important holy sites that hold religious

significance to both Muslims and Jews alike. We therefore endorse the idea of having all holy
sites be National Monuments. Egypt will supply these monuments with adequate military
presence so that they will stay open to both nationalities and be safe for anyone to visit. If one
country then tries to seize the monument(s) or tries to invade the other territory, Egypt will
respond with necessary military action and will call upon the United Nations and other
surrounding military forces for additional support if needed.

PARAGRAPH THREE
Past UN resolution 1515(2003) also called for a two state resolution(UN Security Council
Resolution 1515) but was unsuccessful. Resolution 242 from 1967 called for a different take on
the solution and stated the following Withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories
occupied in the recent conflict; Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for
and acknowledgement of sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every
State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free
from threats or acts of force;(UN Security Council Resolution 242) Both Egypt and Jordan
accepted this proposition and strongly considered all Israeli withdrawal. (Chapter 1-4) With
Egypts proposition both Palestine and Israel would have equal land and would be able to visit
holy sites within either State.
