GEOLOGY PERSONAL STATEMENT

What makes Geology magnificent is the fact that our planets structure is
constantly revolutionizing and also ours is the only one that are coped to retain
life. Growing up in Borneo, which possess an immense geological feature such as
mountains and sea that is still not being fully discovered had left me in utter
amazement. What sparked my interest in Geology is a brief talk about Geology
course held by National University of Malaysia when I was in school which had
gave me a clue about a degree course that could provide me with a deeper
meaning to the beauty of things and satisfaction of knowing how things exist. I
am also fascinated by the immense power of the forces at work below the
surface of the Earth that lead to the earthquake that had recently invaded part of
Borneo caused by Mount Kinabalu recorded with a moment magnitude of 6.0
which is the strongest since 1976 to affect Malaysia had intrigued me to pursue
Geology and have a deeper insight of the plate tectonic and volcanic activity of a
mountain.
It is never been an inconvenience for me in learning scientific fact in English
although I am not native user. My sponsor had placed me in INTEC for doing Alevel and I believe that the combination of Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics
in A-levels can grant me a degree course in Geology. Studying chemistry has
furnished me a greater awareness to the atom that involved in the formation of
an element which is the fundamental of geology. I have met and known many
type of mineral exist on Earth including some of the reaction toward specific
substances. I have pursued my interest in Geology by reading Krakatoa: The Day
the World Exploded by Simon Winchester. This book taught me about the islands
background and how its location on Sunda Strait and the infamous eruption in
1883 which influenced lives, affected world trade and global temperature.
In my free time, I enjoy playing online games and going to somewhere
quiet and relaxing to ease my mind. Furthermore, I enjoy playing almost all kinds
of sports as I am a fast learner but I like playing football, the most. I managed to
join my school football team and become representative of my school to
compete in INTER-MRSM competition and get third place. Back in school, I was
appointed as a treasurer for Police Cadet club which held a great responsibility to
take care of club finance and I had a great deal of management experience in
term of club finances with full honesty and organizing an annual dinner. In
addition, I am also an active member of Police Cadet Club and had taken part in
numerous camping activity including marching and rifle tryout which build up my
rigid personalities.
Recently, my group had raised a charity project for the orphanages. I was chosen
to become a committee of our project and responsible for cleaning the
orphanages. We decide to donate some food supplies, books and spending some
time with the orphan. I had developed precious leadership skills in managing the
orphanages together with my team mates. This charity project had taught me
that we as a member of society has the responsibility of taking care the helpless
and we have proved that there is a humanity in human.
Logically thinking, studying in country with an excellent education system means
everything to me and it could be a once in a lifetime chance .Luckily, as a
government scholar, I have been given chances to do so and it would be an
honour to study in UK. I am truly confident that I am well suited to cope with

bustle university life .I have also enjoyed my time at school and now I am looking
forward to the challenge of university and fulfilling a career. I believe my desire
to become a geologist can lead me to a degree course in geology.
