When I When I joined up with these

ago, I was on a
mission: to find
"the band.” Actu-
ally, I've been on
that mission
since I was a
very young child. After many
years of playing in lots of differ-
ent bands, none of which ended
up being "the band,” I knew as I
came to LA that this was my
ultimate chance to find what I
was searching for. Within seven
months of moving to southern
California, I found myself audi-
tioning for a band called
“NeoRelic,” comprised of Bran-
don, Harry, and Zak.
guys, I felt there was, musically,
something very legitimate about
them, but I couldn't quite put my
finger on it. Was it Harry's memo-
rable stage presence? Brandon's
unique personality? Or the fact
that Zak has more drum sets than I
do hairs on my upper lip? I wasn't
sure that I'd found the right band,
but I felt it was worth a try.
As time went on and we
started to gel together as a unit, I
felt more and more that I’d found
what I was looking for. Not only
did the four of us mesh well as a
live band, but we became great
friends. We have a lot in common
musically and personality-wise,
but at the same time, we all have
separate strengths. After several
months of playing together, it was
time for "The Shrill" to manifest
itself. The Reverend came along
and helped us become what you
hear and see now. Though there
was a hell of a lot of sweat, frus-
tration, and loss of sleep, I finally
found myself in the perfect situa-
tion: being in a band where the
positive completely overshadows
the negative. Not only has “The
Shrill” released an album that I am
proud of, but I also had the chance
to play the best live show I've ever
played in my life. With all that I've
said here, and all of the band's tre-
mendous support, it's going to be
hard to top the feeling that I had
on stage at The Shrill's album re-
lease show.

Hailing from Kentucky, the duo
moved out to Hollywood last year
and quickly fit in and made their
presence known. Slinging knives,
beer and Marshalls, Boeh and
Powers are great to watch live
and are equally as fun to have at a
party.
The new album does not yet
have a name and the date of the
CD release show is still in the
works. But stay tuned....In the
meantime, the Boeh and Powers
combination can be seen every
Saturday at The Cat Club in Hol-
lywood with The Lonely Drunks
Club. Please keep an eye out in
early summer for the new al-
bum..........!

Fight Boredom
I work at a school
and students often
complain about be-
ing bored. This an-
noys me a little since
only in hindsight do I
realize the impor-
tance of free time
during the days of
junior high and high
school. It was during this time that I
seemingly had countless hours to
learn the intricacies of the bass and
develop a true passion for music. I
would rummage through music
stores and stay up late at night to
read linear notes describing the ca-
reers of my favorite bands. Dreams
of someday being in a band that
would have its own “Greatest Hits”

blossomed during these transformative
years.
The decision to pursue a career in music
has been met with many challenges. I
often ask myself if it is worth it and sure
enough, the dreams of my childhood rein-
force my goals in adulthood. The Shrill is
gaining momentum, and the dream is tak-
ing shape, yet I still find inspiration from
my past. Thank God for all of the hours I
spent as a kid not being bored and ex-
pending my energy on music. The possi-
bility of having a “dream job” often de-
pends upon the skills developed in adoles-
cence. I cannot express enough to young
people the importance of focusing their
limitless energy on what they love. It
may just be the key to their dreams in the
future.
