As human
beings in the 21st
century, one
thing many of us
tend to overlook
is our health. It’s
an easy thing to
forget about,
especially if, like
me, you’re rela-
tively young and can “get away”
with the neglect. Or if, like most,
your schedule is so busy you
barely have time to pay attention
to what goes in your mouth (stop
thinking dirty, you perverts!) Re-
cently, I was hanging out at Omar
and Sturba’s house. At one point
in the evening, Omar went to the
kitchen to eat some salad, and he
offered me some. “No thanks
man” I replied, as my stomach was
still trying to process the Taco Bell
cheese quesadillas I had eaten an
hour before. A short time later,
Sturba was cutting up a canta-
loupe, and he offered me some.
“Well,” I replied in embarrassment,
“it has been a few days since I’ve
eaten any fruit.” He handed me
some of the orange earth candy and
I dove in. “It’s good, isn’t it?”
Sturba asked me with a grin. As a
result, my mouth, stomach, and in-
testines were quite pleased with this
satisfying snack. With this in mind,
I feel the urge to share with you a
bit of knowledge I try to keep in the
forefront of my mind on a daily
basis: the following list of 8 foods
you should eat every day.
• Spinach (high in iron, enhances
sex, muscle growth, helps build
bones, heart healthy)
• Yogurt (immunity booster, fights
cancer, helps build bones; make
sure label says “live and active
cultures”)
• Tomatoes (immunity booster,
fights cancer, heart healthy)
• Carrots (immunity booster, fights

• Blueberries (stimulates the brain,

heart healthy)

“How can I eat all 8 foods in one

What Happened to Live Music?
Last year’s Sunset
Strip Music Festival
was amazing! The
Strip overflowed
with people and the
stages were graced
by local and national
acts alike. I couldn’t
help but reminisce
about the hey-day of
live music in LA. Locals often talk
about The Troubadour in the early
70’s, where The Eagles were weekly
regulars; and of course, the friend-
ship and rivalry between Motley
Crue and Guns N’ Roses in the mid-
80’s. What happened to Holly-
wood’s glory days when thousands
of people filtered The Strip on a
weekly basis just to get a glimpse of
their favorite local bands?

The fatal blow that stunted Seth’s growth……....
Many factors come to mind. The
immense focus placed on modern technol-
ogy often distracts people from activities
outside the home. Besides this sedentary
tendency, our society’s fixation with
“self” has helped spread the idea that eve-
ryone can be a star. One has to look no
further than the surge of performance-
based reality shows and karaoke bars to
witness this trend. Last but not least,
some blame has to be placed on actual
bands. Nirvana, despite their great song-
writing and true emotion, implanted the
idea that anyone who plays 3 chords can
be in a band. The result has been an on-
slaught of subpar bands that largely drive
people away. I only hope that today’s
Sunset Strip bands can usher in a new era
and help refocus people’s attention on live
music.
