Import and display Dipmeter data.

Visualize fractures in 3D along Well bore

Create Tadpole panels for visualizing fracture dips
Create Rose diagrams to check fracture azimuth
Optional: Import and visualize image logs

Fracture well data Import Workflow
A full Fracture Modeling workflow in Petrel integrates:
Fracture indicators (well data)
Fracture drivers (seismic and geomechanical properties)
Well data and attributes involves:
Point data (dip, azimuth etc.)
Fracture logs (trace length, frac density, aperture etc.)
Image logs (FMI, core etc only for visualization)
Outside Petrel

Inside Petrel

Assumptions:
Dips have been picked
(not possible in Petrel)
Fracture logs have
alreay been processed

3. QC Point Spreadsheet
Check Spreadsheet to get an overview of all imported attributes.
The spreadsheet can be filtered by well.

4. Create Tadpole tracks Fracture Dip
Add a new tadpole track in Well section
settings. Select fracture points using dip
azimuth and dip angle (0-90 deg).

The tadpole will automatically be displayed

in the active well section

Import and Display

5. Create Rose diagrams Fracture Dip orientation
Create new Rose diagram track
from Well section settings.
The Rose diagram will
automatically be displayed in the
active well section.
Tips:
The rose diagrams
can be displayed
between well tops
or at given depth
intervals

Import and Display

5. Create Rose diagrams Fracture Strike orientation
Dip azimuths can be displayed as
points.

Show Strike instead of dip azimuth.

6. Image Log Import (optional)
When importing image logs like core and FMI, they have a different import dialog from
conventional logs. Rename all logs with MD values in the name to make the procedure easy,
and save as .BMP files.). They will be saved as separate Global well logs

Tips:
Import all images at once. Set start and stop MD
as there is no depth referencing for this log type.

Import and Display

6. Image Log Display (optional)
A global image log is stored for each well (if all logs are imported at once), separated by red
lines (control points). Update the Well section template using the image logs for each well.
