or a portion of will go towards the funding of the bell tower.
New Business
Br. Gene and Dan met with Ms. Ganton to discuss the Star Outreach program. It is a correspondence school focused
on high school age kids that don’t fit the social norm that would allow them to attend classes at the normal times.
Now adult upgrading has become a bigger part of their program. Public schools also offer the same programs.
Courses are very expensive (approx $850/course). Government funding has dried up. Left the meeting hoping to
set up a bursary type program similar to our other bursaries at the schools. Star Outreach would have to write their

selection criteria which gaming would have to approve. Further meetings will follow to decide how to move this
program forward.

Major degree this Saturday. We have 1 member going through and Br. Dale Mudryk will be attending as well.

Just a recap of what the fundraiser is all about:
The Leduc Knights of Columbus are selling Grocery (GIFT) cards for both Soybeys and
Superstore(No Frills) in demoninations of $50.00 and $100.00.
We buy in bulk and we receive a discount (6%) for the suppler; thus we have make $780.00 so
far in about 6 weeks.
The funds that we are receiving will go towards the building of the
NEW St. Joseph Seminary.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT
Admission of a Knight of Columbus
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practical Catholic men. A practical Catholic
is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the Precepts of the Church.
An applicant that is favorably voted upon becomes a member by initiation in what is known as
the First Degree. He is subsequently advanced through the Second Degree and Third Degree.
There are modest initiation fees and dues set by subordinate councils. The insurance privileges
are available to all members who can qualify.
For men in every walk of life the name of Knights of Columbus are firmly founded upon the
principles of charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism and defense of the priesthood. The Knights are
able to accomplish a wide range of worthwhile goals thanks to the strength and mutual support of
members and their families. It is composed of men who are giving unselfishly of their time and
talents in the service of God and their country.
The Knights of Columbus provides the opportunity for wholesome association with congenial
companions who are, practical Catholic gentlemen. It offers the opportunity for fellowship with
those who are of the same belief, who recognize the same duty to God, to family and to neighbor
and who stand side by side in defense of those beliefs.
K of C members enjoy working together to help their Church and their community. There are
five areas of involvement open to members: Church, Community, Council, Family and Youth.

Columbus Council #7061. Please assess the following to ensure that you satisfy the admission
requirements:
Yes, I am a practical Catholic man of at least 18 years of age.
I am a member of St. Michael’s parish and do know Father Leo and want to serve the
church in some capacity through the Knights of Columbus.
I am interested in becoming and adding to the Leduc Knights of Columbus.
The Knights of Columbus headquarters is located in New Haven, Connecticut – the birthplace of
the Order. Our local council highest ranking officer is called the Grand Knight. Along with the
other officers, he is elected each year by the members of their council.
The Knights of Columbus was organized in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven,
Connecticut. Today there are nearly 12,000 councils throughout the United States, Canada, the
Philippines, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Panama, Cuba, Guam, the Virgin Islands, the
Dominican Republic, the Bahamas and Saipan.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT
The Knights of Columbus have five main objectives:
1. To support the Church.
2. To build fraternal bonds through social, religious, educational and athletic
activities.
3. To provide comfort and assistance to the sick, disabled, and needy members and
their families.
4. To reach out to meet community needs through programs of charity and service.
5. To provide for the financial security of our members and their families through
our fraternal insurance program.
Upon joining, a special new member introductory plan is available, that merits your
consideration, which is also available to your spouse.
K of C Partners in Education offers various types of scholarships and grants for undergraduate
and graduate studies to members, their wives, sons and daughters. The Supreme Council offers a
Student Loan Program.

K of C Rosary – Blessed by the supreme chaplain, presented during the First Degree
exemplification.
Mass for deceased members and families is celebrated daily at the birthplace of the
Order.
Widow benefits continue to be covered under the Member/Spouse Fraternal benefit; may
purchase insurance and annuities up to 90 days after insured member’s death. Receives a
free lifetime subscription to Columbia, remains eligible with her children for
scholarships, student loans, etc.
Leadership Development – opportunity to build personal leadership skills.
Fourth Degree – eligibility to join “Patriotic Degree” after one year of membership and
completion of the Third Degree of the Order.
Honorary Life Membership at age 70 with 25 consecutive years of service.
Membership card entitles participation in all Catholic, fraternal and social activities in the
nearly 12,000 councils throughout the world.
