Introduction

Do you believe in ghosts? You don't?!

Well, see for yourself!!

We can tell you that we've experienced something tremendous... now, don't laugh,
this is very serious... we were placidly sleeping in a famous castle when, suddenly,
we could hear a distinct noise of chained feet, heart-breaking sighs and blood-
curdling screams,... What a fright!!! But we see you are a tough subject to
convince... well then, check out for yourselves the many haunted places in Britain
and come back to present your report by acting as travel agents. Now it's up to you
- go and convince as many people as you can that HAUNTED PLACES DO EXIST!!

The Task

This WebQuest gives you the possibility to investigate the mysterious and
fascinating world of ghosts! Surf the Internet to find as much information as
possible on the most haunted places in Britain. After this, you will promote your
findings on this magical world and present it orally to the rest of the class. Use
your imagination - exploit whatever pictures, maps and videos you find on the
Web. You should convince everyone that your haunted place is the best and must
be visited!!!

The process

The class will be divided in 5 groups:

Group 1 will investigate haunted houses and they will have to get the following
information:

a. Why does the ghost of Clandon House occassionally visit the house?
b. What type of house is Courtiers house in Clifton Hampden?
c. What happened in Pythouse, Witlshire?

d. Why have the bones been removed three times?

Group 2 will investigate haunted castles and they will have to answer the
following questions:

a. Who wrote a story based on the events in Baldoon Castle?

b. What did they accuse the ghost at Glamis castle of? What was her
punishment? Where can you see her?
c. How old was the ghost at Denbign Castle when he died?

Group 3 will investigate haunted abbeys and they will have to find the following
information:

a. Who did King Henry sell Newstead Abbey to? Why does the ghost come?
b. Who is the ghost at Whitby Abbey? Who did she fall in love with? Where can
you see her?
c. What was the reason of the ghost’s downfall? What does the ghost like
doing?

Group 4 will investigate haunted churches and they will have to answer the
following questions:

a. What do people believe the ghost at Godstow Nunnery die of?

b. Why does the ghost at St. Mary’s church come?
c. Why was the ghost at St. Nicholas Church executed? What happens to his
grave?
d. What did Catherine, the ghost at St. Lawrence’s Church, die of?

Group 5 will investigate haunted hotels and will look for the following
information:

a. Why was thomas Busby executed? Where can you see his ghost?
b. Where did his colleagues take Sidney Godolphin’s corpse?
c. How did John Wentworth’s lover die? What did he do after her death? Why
does he return to the White Swan Inn?
d. What is the ghost at Scole Inn called?
