NEXT TO PASIG
MELODRAM IN AN ACT AND IN VERSE.
Represented for the first time on December 8, 1880, at six in the afternoon, with music
by DON BLÁS ECHEGOYEN, in the Assembly Hall of the Municipal Athenaeum, of Manila, by the
students of the Academy of Spanish Literature of said teaching center , of which the Egyptian
Apostle of the Philippine liberties was President.
Represented for the second time, with music by MANUEL VELEZ, on the occasion of the
LITERARY, LYRIC AND MUSICAL VELADA organized by the annual illustrated newspaper DIA
FILIPINO, which was held on June 19, 1915, at the Grand Opera House, Avenida Rizal, Manila,
in commemoration of the 54th anniversary of the birth of the immortal MARTIR DE
BAGUMBAYAN.

(The action is carried out on the banks of the Pásig River, in the town of this name; the
decoration represents the river, and the opposite bank to which the characters are. You will
see the church, houses, reeds and a multitude of flags and ornaments typical of the peoples of
the Archipelago. It is the hour of dawn and, consequently, the tone of the whole has to be
gently reproduced.)

FIRST SCENE.
CANDID, EASTER AND OTHER CHILDREN. (One of which
carries flowers, and others with flags and toys typical of
childhood.)
