Description: Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and lies between Vienna and Venice, at a crossroads of important transport routes from northern Europe to the Adriatic sea and from western to eastern Europe and further onto the Balkans. Ljubljana was the centre of the Slovenian Reformation movement. In 1701 the Academia philharmonicorum institution was founded and the members of its successor, the Philharmonic Society, included the violinist Niccolo Paganini and composers Josef Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven. The Ursuline church is a beautiful Italian baroque church belonging to Ursuline Convent which was built between 1718 and 1726. It is known for its faade of six great columns and gable, and contains a huge altar built of African marble, designed by Italian Baroque artist Francesco Robba. The original bell tower was destroyed in an earthquake in 1895, and rebuilt in the 1900s. CONCERT 2 St Georges Cathedral Ulica IX. Korpusa 25 6330 Piran

Description: The picturesque medieval town of Piran was built on the tip of a small peninsula reaching far into the sea at the northwestern most point of the Istrian peninsula. Piran is one of the oldest towns in Slovenia. The major source of the towns prosperity at that time was the production and sale of salt produced from the nearby saltpans. The church complex atop the hill above Piran consists of the parish church of St George, the bell tower, the baptistery of St John the Baptist and the priests house. Since the sixteenth century both sides of the hill has been reinforced with arches that beautifully underline the dominance of the church complex. The present day complex of the parish church of St.George was built at the end of the sixteenth century and due to its uniqueness and quality the Baroque church complex has been declared a monument of national importance.

CONCERT 3 St Peters Church Linhartov trg Radovljica Slovenia

Description: Radovljica is located on the southern slope of the Karavanke mountain range close to the place which marks the start of Slovenias longest river, the Sava. Radovljica was settled by the early Slavs and by the fourteenth century had grown into an important market town as a result of trade on the river and the nearby iron forgeries. St Peters serves as a typical example of a Late Gothic church, which were built in the fifteenth century following examples from the south of Germany. Typically, the central nave is not separated from the aisles with passages and all are the same height. Three pairs of octagonal columns support a ribbed vaulting made up of eight-pointed stars. The high altar dates back to the eighteenth century and is hewn from black marble, in keeping with Venetian examples.
