BELLAVISTA CLOUD FOREST


To see the cloud forest and to experience the changes in the
temperature and vegetation at such a close distance from Quito
(1h45m), you have to go to Bellavista cloud forest. This reserve is
located at 0,00,46 latitude in northwestern Ecuador, on the edge
of the Choco Bio-region which is among the most bio-diverse
places in the world. Birds here are always active, especially early
in the morning. Enjoy watching hummingbirds and other bird
species, during your hike or by just sitting and relaxing at any
spot. Or explore in search of elusive forest species. 320 species of
birds have been recorded here in the Tandayapa valley. Hikes here
go through primary and secondary forests!

PAPALLACTA HOT SPRINGS


We drive about 2 hours east of Quito on the road to Baeza to soak
in the hot springs of Papallacta. The baths range from ice cold to
hot as hell. Weekday visits are recommended over weekends, as
the resort can become quite crowded on weekends. We take a
short cut, passing by the church of Guapulo and have a wonderful
ride in the paramo (tundra). The highest point reached is 4,150m
and we then descend to a spectacular setting at 3,300m. Relax in
the hot springs (different temperatures and sizes), while enjoying
views of the Antisana volcano (5,700m). If youre feeling more
active, try trekking up the river to work up an appetite for lunch at
the restaurant, which offers typical dishes such as trout. Return to
Quito in the afternoon.

Local community experience


in the Amazon
If you want to live a magical experience, escape the routine to
discover a different culture and support a community. Shiripuno
Quichua community is for you.
In the morning you will experience travelling solo by public bus
to Tena for about 6 hours, in Tena your guide or a representative
from the community will be waiting for you to take you to the
community. The families from the community will welcome you
and make you feel as another member of their family.
This is a great chance to practice your Spanish and if you do
not speak Spanish no worries the native guide speaks English.
You will spend the 3 or 2 nights in a simple rooms supplied with
mosquito nets and shared facilities doing different activities
surrounded by jungle such as hiking in the jungle, learning about
the agriculture/ culture, traveling by motorised canoe along the
Rio Arajuno deeper into the Sinchi Jungle, learning about the
variety of medicinal plants, insects and wildlife found in this part
of the jungle, and if the river allowes it, you can also enjoy some
Tubbing.
The last day you will be transferred to the bus station to take the
bus back to Quito where our driver will be waiting for you to bring
you to your hotel in Quito.

QUITO CITY TOUR


If you want to explore the treasures of Latin Americas ornate
churches and flowered plazas, take a guided tour of the colonial
center of Quito.
We visit the Panecillo hill in the middle of the old town (a lookout
point), which affords the best view of Quito, then we come
down to see the Presidential Palace, Independence Square, the
Churches of San Francisco, La Compania and La Catedral.

Entrance fees for the churches and Panecillo are not included in the

OTAVALO INDIAN MARKET

QUILOTOA LAGOON

Otavalo market is considered one the biggest and best


indigenous markets in South America. Here you can find all the
handicrafts that are made in Ecuador. We head north along the
Pan-American highway for 2.5 hours. On the way if you want
we can visit the village of Calderon to see the bread figures and
Cayambe to taste the typical biscochos (local biscuits). After you
have explored the Otavalo market, we go to the leather market at
Cotacachi. The official Market Day is Saturday, but any other day
is still interesting, and has less tourists.

The trip starts early in the morning with a 3-hour drive south
through the Avenue of Volcanoes where you pass by some
communities and from where you can enjoy great views of the
Andes. Quilotoa lagoon is one of the most beautiful lagoons in
Ecuador and is actually not just a lagoon, its a volcano with a large
crater (3 km in diameter). You can hike down to the lagoon which
will take a couple hours to go down and back up. After you have
hiked around the lagoon you will drive back to Quito.

THE EQUATOR
We head north from the city for about 45 minutes to get to the
Middle of the World monument that was built during the 17th
century when a French expedition defined the precise location
of the equatorial line. We will go inside of the monument and
then to the Inti an local museum where you can see different
experiments to prove that you are at the Center of the Earth.

COTOPAXI VOLCANO
We travel by private jeep for about 2 hours through the avenue
of the volcanoes until we get to the impressive Cotopaxi, an
active volcano at a height of 5,897m. During our stay at the
National Park we will visit its museum to learn about the natural
environment of the place, its animals and plants, and visit the
Limpiopungo lagoon. Then we walk approximately 1.5 hours to
the refuge at 4,800m. In the afternoon, you will return to Quito.

SAQUISILI MARKET & QUILOTOA


Saquisili is another important market south from Quito, a
wonderful drive by the Avenue of Volcanoes and the Andes that
will give you the opportunities to have great views, in this famous
local market of Saquisil. The local indigenous people bring their
products from all over the highlands to sell, such as handicrafts
from Salasaca, Otavalo and Chimborazo. You will also find an
animal market.
After the market we will continue to Quilotoa Lagoon to explore
around will then return to Quito.
