2010 MLB SEASON

By: Joshua Koeplin
The offseason is almost set and in March spring training kicks off.
The defending champions the New York Yankees are the highly favorites of win-
ning the fall classic repeating to another championship. The Yankees made a cou-
ple of additions to their roster to make their season even more successful, with the
addition of CF (Center Fielder), Curtis Granderson and P (Pitcher), Javier
Vasquez. Granderson, coming off of a powerful season with 30 HRS has high ex-
pectations to the club. There are more talented teams coming to compete with the
pennant. Such as division rival the Boston Red Sox.
The two time defending National League champions, the Philadelphia
Phillies have great expectations towards the season. The Phillies made a huge
change in their rotation, trading Cliff Lee in a three way trade with the Seattle
Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays. The Phillies acquired the 2003 Cy Young win-
ner Roy Halladay. Although they have a strong roster they have to compete in a
tough division and conference.
The MLB season starts in April, but if you are interested in going to
some spring training games the locations of the baseball stadiums are
listed the following. Surprise stadium (Rangers – Royals), Peoria Sports
complex (Mariners – Padres), Maryvale Park (Brewers), Scottsdale Sta-
JERKIN’
2007 brought us Soulja Boy, 2008 brought us Stanky Legg,
but 2009 has brought us JERKIN! The jerkin movement started
in Los Angeles then quickly spread across the United States. Jer-
kin later became big after the hit song “You’re a Jerk”. Dance
crews mostly known are Action Figure$, U.C.L.A. Jerk Kings,
and the LOL Kid$z. Jerkin also has its own fashion; people who
usually jerk wear skinny jeans of all colors and usually flannel.

stores among
teens at hillcrest middle school. Ciana Calhoun and I took this survey during our
lunches and then collaborated all of the data we gathered. All together we surveyed
a total of 100 students. Tilly’s had the most votes and Pacsun had the second most
votes. Aeropostale came in dead last; which Ciana and I found very surprising be-
cause a lot of students wear Aeropostale brand clothings.
Lollipops
By: Stefanie Bridge
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop? Does anyone
even know? Me being a lover of lollipops I always wanted to know. Well I
took the time to find out. You would never guess how many licks it takes and
how long. I tried many times, always forgetting what number I’m on I found
out. Well it only takes 693 licks, and 2 hours. Now you know many licks it
takes.

To Write Love On Her Arms

To Write Love On Her Arms is a non-profit organization that helps
teens who suffer from self-harm, addiction, suicide, and depression. It started
in February 2006 in Orlando, Florida and it was a written story about five
days being spent with a friend who couldn’t afford to enter a drug treatment
center. They got their name from the title of the story, which was written by
Jamie Tworkowski, the founder. TWLOHA has been helping people since
then and has been giving them hope and love through friends and events such
as the Vans Warped Tour and acoustic events that sponsor the organization.
One of the biggest ways they have got their name out is from band
support. Bands such as UnderOath, A Skylit Drive, Paramore, The Red
Jumpsuit Apparatus, Plain White T’s, Panic! At The Disco, and many others.
Anberlin even let Jamie Tworkowski come on tour them so he could talk
about TWLOHA.
If you have any questions or would like to find out more you can
check out their website at www.TWLOHA.com. You can make make dona-
tions and find out more about their events and they have a lot of shirts that
you can buy to help benefit them.
Interview with Mr. Capp
By: Regina Elder

I interviewed Mr. Capp., a 7th grade science teacher. I

learned a few interesting things about Mr. Capp. He grew up in
Syracuse, New York with one brother and two sisters. When he
was in high school, he worked at a hobby shop. He always
wanted to be a coach but loved science. So he decided to coach
basketball and teach so he went to NAU and Cornell collage. Mr.
Capp has 4 children. Gunner, who is 36, Trish, 30, Jess, 27 and
Gicomo, 19. Capp enjoys spending time with family when he isn’t
teaching. This amazing science teacher has been teaching for 29
years! He also has coached basketball at the high school and
here at Hillcrest for about 20 years. Now for some of Mr. Capps
