Datuk Nicol Ann David

Datuk Nicol David is a professional squash player from Malaysia. She is Worlds
No.1 squash player and the first Asian woman to hold such title. She was born as Nicol Ann
David on 26 August 1983 in Penang. She is a daughter to Desmond David, an engineer, and
Ann Marie David, a teacher.
Nicol is the first squash player who won World Squash Junior Tournament twice, in
1999 and 2001(1). At the age of 16, she was already short listed for top 10 best squash
players in the world(2). She has won five Asian Tournaments which is in 1998, 2000, 2002,
2004 and 2006 (3). In 2005, Nicol created a history when she defeated Rachel Grinham from
Australia(4) during the finals in Hong Kong Open Tournament and she was crowned as the
youngest World Champion (5).
On 7 June 2008, Nicol David was given the title Darjah Bakti (D.B) during Yang diPertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidins birthday(6). She was the first to receive this
award which was implemented on 26 June 1975. On 12 July 2008, Nicol was given Darjah
Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) which carries the title Datuk (8), and she became the
youngest figure that was given such title in Penang (9).
Nicol received WISPA Best Player awards six times in a row, starting from 2005-2010(10).
