Pastors Perspective
As I complete my years at Berkeley, I am grateful for
my journey with you, fellow disciples of Christ. These
last six years have seen changes in the life of our church,
and to address those changes and the opportunities God
is giving us, we engaged in the Healthy Church Initiative
in 2015. Im glad we did, and I know our lay leadership
and incoming pastor will continue the process of our
Ministry Action Plan (MAP).
One aspect of our MAP is our simplified structure
which we call the Leadership Council. Communication
is important between the Council and the congregation,
so you are invited to attend the Town Hall meeting on
Sunday, May 15, 2-3 p.m. We will gather in the
sanctuary. Chair Mike Crevier will outline the churchs
vision, priorities and resources.
Ample time for
questions and answers will follow. Healthy, open
conversation is the currency of change. I hope to see you
there.
One measure, though not the only one, of a
congregations health and commitment is its financial
strength. At the end of March, the general fund income
was $66,652 and expenses were $65,482. I encourage you
to continue your faithful, regular and even sacrificial
support of Gods work through your church. I hope
Rev. Wilson Pruitt will find a church with ample
resources to implement its vision.
Another measure is worship attendance. Our average
worship attendance on the Sundays in April at the
combined service has been 92; our average total in both
services on the comparable Sundays after Easter in 2015
was 95. We do not see a significant decline in the total,
moving from two services to one. I hope you will
continue to be faithful in worship!
Your pastor,
Jeanne Devine

In Capable Arms: Living a Life Embraced by Grace
By Sarah Kovac
Sarah Kovac was born with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC), a rare congenital
birth defect that left her with arms that she could barely use. From a young age, Sarah began
adapting, working to her strengths, and eventually learned to use her feet to do such activities as changing her son's diapers, making dinner, putting on makeup, and even typing on the
computer.
This is more than Sarahs story. Sarah brings readers face to face with their own struggles,
challenges them with questions about self-worth and fear, then offers guidance, wisdom, and
inspiration for finding hopeand healingin the arms of the One who loves them no matter
what.
Look for Sarah on YouTube to see how she has learned to perform tasks that we take for granted with her feet.

Dignity Liberia Update

Pastor Jeannes sermon on April 17, Small Things with Great Love, filled my heart anew
with gratitude for beautiful dresses made by Berkeleys UMW. Not all the dresses so
lovingly made were distributed last October; some are in storage containers at our home base in
Liberia and will go to grateful women and girls this September.
I will not be going on this trip, but would very much appreciation any additional contributions you can make. I have a board meeting in July and can take dresses with me for someone else to take. Either they will go in suitcases of those who have room, or they will be
shipped on our next container.
If you are interested in making something, please feel free to email
(KathyBethInAustin@gmail.com) or call me (512-447-4023). I need to have contributions by
July 17th in order to take them to my next board meeting.
I also have a pattern for a ball. The girl in the picture is holding one. It is a balloon-filled
cloth ball! It is easily transported, and when it gets dirty, it can be washed and reused. I believe one of our board members relatives designed it.
I also have a pattern for feminine hygiene kits, which we give to the girls. I have included a
picture of the bags that we gave to the graduating girls.
These are all little things but they have a HUGE impact on the lives of people who have so little and who have
struggled with illness, poverty, and heartache.
God bless you and thank you!
Kathy Beth
