Short story rough draft

Present day, 12:37, Atlantic Ocean

As the three divers dove deeper into the darkness, they became dependant on their weak flash
light for sight. They swam and swam in a hopeless search for lost treasure. “Let’s get out of here.
This is pointless.” said Jacob. “No! I haven’t waited and searched this long for nothing! Keep
looking!” their leader, Louis ordered. “It’s been hours. Are you sure you didn’t make a mistake?”
said Ethan. “Yes I’m sure! I’m positive it’s here!” he replied. Jacob sighed.

“We are finally here!” Joseph exclaimed! “Good.” Adam said. Atlantis; A city thriving with
trade and people. Good things always find their way into this city. Adam and Joseph walked
around the city’s streets filled with trading stalls. “This is amazing! Unlike anything I’ve seen or
imagined in my life!” Adam said. “So NOW do you think that 11 month walk was worth it?”
“The walk may as well been a lifetime for all of this” Adam said as he marveled at the amazing
sights of the huge buildings. They knew little of what was about to happen to the most amazing
city of the world.

“Wait… What’s that?” Louis said suddenly. “What?” replied Ethan. The third diver went up to
the boat to take a break. “That!” the leader then pointed to a broken down wall. “That can’t
be…” “Oh but it can! We found it.” “Don’t get too happy. Let’s take a look”. Both divers
entered the wall excited. “Wow!” Louis said at first sight of the same buildings of 5000 years
ago. “Can it be? I mean could we have FINALLY found it?!”. As he was saying that the second
diver took a look into one of the buildings through its windows to see huge amounts of gold.
“Sir, take a look at this!” “Oh my god… we’re RICH!” “Tell our friend to come down here with
lots of containers. Lots.”

“WHAT?!” Arthurs, king of Atlantis, boomed “WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE CITY IS GOING
TO BE DESTROYED?!”. His engineer cowered before him “We… well, y… you see, your
majesty, the cliffs that we built to support this city on are falling apart from the fierce waves!”
“Didn’t you think about that BEFORE you built it?!” “Yes, your majesty, but the waves were
stronger than we anticipated. They are much stronger than before.” “What’s going to happen?”
“The artificial cliffs will eventually collapse and 3/4 the city will fall into the ocean.”. The King
sat down in disbelief. “How much time do we have left?” “It’s a matter of hours, your majesty. I
have already alerted the general and he has sent his soldiers to force all of people out.” “Bring
the gold… We will need it.”
Present day, 3:31, Atlantic Ocean

“Whoa! How many containers full of these things do we have so far?” the Jacob said. “I don’t
know but I know one thing for sure; we are going home RICH!” said the Ethan. “See? I told you
guys that the city existed! Thanks to me now you are rich!” said the commander with childish
glee in his voice. “Ok. I think that’s all of it. Let’s get up to the boat.”. As they swam up to the
boat with the containers full of gold, happy thoughts were going through all three of the divers’
heads. “After a while I’m going back down there.” Louis suddenly announced while on the boats
deck. “Why? We got all of the gold, let’s get out of here!” the Jacob said. “I want to know what
brought the city down…”

“Hey, watch it!” Joseph shouted at the soldier shoving him out of the city. “What is going on?”
Adam shouted over the voices of people rushing out of the city. “If I knew what was going on,
I’d probably be running like the rest of these people, Adam.”. Then, all of a sudden a man
running through crowed starts screaming “THE CITY IS GOING DOWN! IT IS GOING TO BE
DESTROYED! SAVE YOURSELVES!” and continued running. The walls of soldiers were
forcing all people out. They were bursting into buildings and homes pulling humans out as if
they were ragdolls. Adam and Joseph were wondering what could possibly be wrong, and
through the desperate mess of crowded people both friends could see gold being taken out of the
bank, escorted by soldiers. “Ok, that’s it lets get out of here!” Adam shouted “Not until I find out
what is going on!” Joseph shouted back just before running against the crowd. “That fool…”
Adam thought to himself following close by.

“I’m getting really tired up here…” the Ethan muttered into the radio lazily “*yawn* Same down
here.” “Then come back up here.” Jacob proposed. “Roger, our oxygen tanks are almost out
anyway.” Louis noted as he looked on the gauge that pointed out ‘NEARLY EMPTY’. “We still
have to come back tomorrow, you know.” Louis retorted while on deck. Jacob swore and Ethan
kicked the one of the boxes of gold. “Come on guys, there could be more gold in it for us!” Louis
plead “Well, ok, but where will we hide THIS gold right now?” Ethan asked “We won’t have
too. We will just go back, get our oxygen tanks and fuel refilled and sleep on the boat. It’s got a
bunk bed and a couch inside so no problems.” Louis replied in a matter-of-factly voice
“Tomorrow better be the last day in this damn water.” Ethan said in a cold voice.

“Tell me again, WHY DID YOU KILL THAT SOLDIER?!” Adam shouted at Joseph. “He was
in our way. I had to or he would have deprived us of this amazing city. Just look around you!
Anyway, I haven’t wasted a year of my life just to come to this city and leave within the same
day.” Adam looked around the empty streets. The scene of Joseph shoving a soldier onto the
ground and then stabbing him to death with his own sword was forever burned into his mind.
“Look, the soldiers were forcing us out for a good reason. We have to get out of here or we will
soon be in trouble!” “Do you see any footmen? We are…” Josephs’ sentence was interrupted by
a shake. “Did you feel that?” Adam asked nervously “Yes”. Suddenly, the ground right in front
of them began to fall apart and crumble, revealing a fatal drop to the ocean. Both friends look at
each other for a brief moment. They began to run back to the gate of the city. “Go! We can make
it if we’re quick enough!” Joseph shouted. Suddenly, the ground in front of them began to crack.
They saw a building next to them with the door broken down. They quickly ran inside it. “To the
roof!” Adam shouted. Both of them wasted no time in thinking; they took the stairs and Joseph
crashed the door leading to the roof. Adam ran past him and jumped onto the other buildings’
roof, which was crumbling up. Joseph, however, tried to jump onto the same building but end up
holding on to its side. He quickly climbed up to see the same crumbling roof. He knew he
wouldn’t make it if he tried to run past it, so he jumped into the building through a broken spot
of the roof. Adam was already near the gate until the building he was on fell all at one into the
ocean he made a life-daring jump off its roof. Fortunately, the building was low enough that the
ground was at its roof at the time. He was running non-stop as Joseph dove through the window
of the building he jumped into and landed in another building. He climbed down its stairs as
quickly as he can. Time was running out.

“Ok. Let’s go.” Louis said right before putting his diving mask on. Ethan and Jacob did the
same. In 10 minutes they were back to the ruined, underwater city. ‘Now that you think of it,
how DID the city fall?’ Jacob thought to himself “Well, we can see much clearer thanks to the
sun.” Louis said happily. “Boss, you might want to look at this.” Ethan said while pointing to a
huge heap of metal. “What is that?” Louis questioned “Gold?” Jacob suggested “Nah. Whatever
it was it was in the ocean for a long time. Probably some kind of supports.” Ethan answered back
“Are you saying that Atlantis used to be on that hill up there?” Jacob asked in surprise “No. The
land must have shifted. I’ll bet you it used to be much higher 5000 years ago.” Louis answered
back. “What caused it to drop?” Ethan wondered.

Joseph got back on to the street. Everything was in havoc floors no longer were solid for more
than 5 seconds. He had to keep running. Both of them didn’t know where the other one of them
were. They just kept on running for their lives. The road Joseph was running on had cracks
which were becoming bigger by the second. He went from non-stop running to non-stop
jumping. He knew he wouldn’t make it like this. The final jump he needed was right in front of
him, but it was too big. He had no choice; he had to jump so he did. He tried to grab the ledge
but it was too far. As he fell he closed his eyes not wanting to look down to his doom. But he
wasn’t falling! He looked up saw Adam holding on to his arm. “Let’s get out of here!” Adam
said quickly as he pulled Joseph up. “I couldn’t think of a better idea.” Joseph replied. They ran
through the gate. They fell to the floor, tired and barley able to breathe. “Wh…W… what
happened… WHAT IN THE WORLD HAPPENED?!” Adam sputtered. “Let’s just get out o…
of here.” Joseph. “Joseph.” Adam said “Yes?” “This time, I get to choose where we go.” “Then
where to?” “Egypt.”. There was a pause. “Ok. Let’s go.”

Present day, 9:30, Atlantic Ocean

“Alright. It’s finally over! Let’s go home, boys!” Louis announced “Finally” Ethan blurted. “We
will just report this to the government and keep the gold to ourselves!” They started to head
home. Everything was fine until a huge boat wouldn’t get out of their way. “Guys, get out of our
way!” Ethan shouted at them. Then, they stopped right in front of them and 3 armed men came
out of nowhere. Pirates. Ethan made a dash for the oxygen tank. “STOP!” Ordered one of the
pirates, but Ethan ignored him. He grabbed the oxygen tank and went underwater. He saw bullets
come at him but thankfully none of them hit. He stayed underwater for a long time. Once he got
up onto the boat again, there were no sign of his friends. Only a few bloodstains, and the gold
was gone.
