Star Wars: Empire at War Tips and Hints (PC)

Star Wars: Empire at War is a real-time strategy game released in February 2006.
It focuses on the struggle between the Empire and the Rebels that begins in the
time frame between Episode III and Episode IV. It was developed by Petroglyph,
a company comprising many former members of Westwood Studios, best known for the
ir work on the Command & Conquer series. Empire at War uses an entirely new engi
ne that Petroglyph developed, known only as Alamo. The most recent patch was rel
eased on July 20th, 2006.
There are four different game modes: Skirmish, Storyline-Campaign, Galactic Conq
uest and Multiplayer. Skirmish mode is the "classic" RTS mode, and the most like
ly mode to be used online. Skirmishes come in two types: land and space. In land
skirmishes, all players start with bases and must research upgrades and capture
resource nodes, while ultimately destroying the enemy's base. In space skirmish
, the base is replaced with a space station that can be upgraded
Tips and Tricks
Empire Pointers
For the Empire do all the missions they ask because the stuff you get will help.
If you wait a while you will receive credits and Imperial Star Destroyers (star
ted at tech level 4 for the Star Destroyers).
Soon planets will start revolting slowly to your side so build a Space Station a
nd Barracks at the same time if you can't keep ships at the planet or get them t
here because if a single enemy ship that would trigger combat enters the system
it will cancel the Space Station, but you will still have the barracks which sho
uld be done quickly.
Afterwards keep upgrading the Space Station and build a light factory and build
2 Storm Troopers for every AT-ST or TIE Mauler, but make sure to build the Storm
Troopers first.
Money Money Everywhere So Why Not Pay Off Your Debts Solo?
Conquer or capture all the planets except the mission planet. Then fortify the p
lanets around your mission planet. Once this is done set the game to fast forwar
d and let the game run. Check on it every so often to make sure you have not bee
n attacked. After a while check your cash flow. If you like it resume normal pla
y and beat the scenario. If not, just wait and let your money build.

For the Rebellion, find a planet with no ground structures using the map filters
and make a fleet using only 3PO and Artoo. Once they land, they capture the pla
net instantly. If there is a fleet in space, you cannot build space structures,
but it does not affect planetary occupation.
Hints

On the Galactic Map, start with building your space force. If the enemy attacks,
they will be your first line of defense. When you're satisfied with you fleet,
obviously you should move on with the garrisons.
The Barracks are the first building you should make. Forget Mining Facilities; t
hat only wastes time right now. After the Barracks are done, build a few squads
of Infantry Platoons/Stormtroopers and the guys with Rocket Launchers (Plexes).
Build Light and Heavy factories and make a lot of machines: they aren't as easy
to kill and usually aren't affected much by weather conditions.
For your humongous cherry on top, you want to build a giant army of SPMA's and T
-24's. These guys are almost indestructible when they are behind the rest of you
r troop (the cover). Plus, the T-24's run over infantry! How awesome is that?
I send in my whole army to one place. I think you REALLY should send out one or
two of your fastest guys as scouts and only move out when you find something.
It's also not a good idea to rely on one planet to house your whole army unless
you know that you are about to be under siege. Spread out your army to different
planets. I once kept everyone on one planet until I only had that planet left.
Bad idea.

Tips for Galactic Conquest mode with the Rebels
At the start of a new campaign, build lots of Mining Facilities on each planet.
They can be sold later if desired.
* Have the droids steal Imperial technology immediately from the start. It is su
fficient to build Factories, Barracks, etc. on only a few of planets to begin wi
th, as forces can easily be moved to the desired location after they have been p
roduced. Instead of having ground forces protecting your planets, concentrate on
building a large fleet for each planet. Make sure your Space Station is upgrade
d to the maximum at all times. This should be sufficient to repel the Imperial f
leet and thus prevent a ground assault altogether.
* You will also need to build a large separate attack fleet in order to conquer
planets, as you cannot leave any of your planets unguarded at any time. Also, ma
ke sure Antilles' ship is included as his "weaken enemy" special attack is extre
mely effective. Place all your ground forces into one huge army following your a
ttack fleet around the galaxy, but never put them in the same fleet. A surprise
attack could leave your transport ships facing a Star Destroyer. Make sure you h
ave bomber squads in your fleet to allow for bombing raids on planetary battles.
Bring the droids as well, as they do not affect the total number of units allow
ed, and their ability to repair units can be very useful if there are no buildin
g pads nearby.
* As soon as you have conquered a new planet, build a fleet to protect it. Do no

t remove your main fleet until the the planetary fleet is in place, or you will
risk being attacked immediately. As the game progresses, the Imperial fleets wil
l grow bigger; make sure your attack fleet and planetary defense fleets are up t
o strength, and do not forget to replace losses immediately after a battle.
Recommended Empire space fleet
You must build, to conquer space; buy as many Accumulator Assult Ships and Victo
ry Star Destroyers as you can afford. It is also recommended that you get some I
mperial Star Destroyers and possibly a Interdictor Star Destroyer. Once you have
your space forces, focus on your infantry. You may need to wait for more income
because of all the space forces, but when you get enough, buy some of the first
two things you can (for example, Storm Troopers or Scout Troopers), then a few
tanks. Note: This will also work for Galactic Conquest mode.
Recommended Rebel space fleet
Build at as many places as you can, X-Wings for space and Infantry Platoons or P
lex Soldiers for land. Since X-Wings have such a high fire rate, they will kill
enemies easily. When the space battle is over, take the ground with your forces.
It may also help to have some T2-B Tank squadrons. With the Plex(s) as high def
ensive and your platoon(s) doing the rest, you should win quickly. Note: This wi
ll also work for Galactic Conquest mode.

Most people already know how to do this, but I'm making this tutorial anyway jus
t to help all the people who don't know how to do this already. Its pretty easy
and shouldn't take but a couple of minutes.

Step 2:
Double-click the "GameData" folder.
Step 3:
Double-click the "Data" folder.

that work with the patched version of the game.)

Step 5:
Find the "factions" XML file and open it with Notepad or Word.
Step 6:
Carefully scroll down until you see some text like this:
Space_Tactical_Unit_Cap 20
Change the number to whatever you want your population cap to be. (you will have
to do this separately for each of the game's factions.
Step 7:
Save and close the XML document.
There you go! Have fun! This also works for Forces of Corruption!
