SikaLightcrete I-500

Construction

Admixture for lightweight concrete

Product
Description

SikaLightcrete I-500 is a liquid admixture (foaming agent) for concrete and mortar
which produces lightweight concrete.

Uses

SikaLightcrete I-500 is high concentrated liquid foaming agent for concrete made
with light weight aggregates (expanded clays, perlite, pumice stone, polystyrene) or
for all other kinds of concrete where high air content is required.
n Insulation (thermal and acoustic)
n The filling of trenches and pipes (backfill)
n Lightweight concrete applications of everykind

Characteristics /
Advantages

n
n

Provides air entrainment up to 35%

Depending on the quality sands, cements and water content SikaLightcrete I500 allows the production of concrete with a specific weight of 800 kg/m31600 kg/m3
Due to its stabilizer components SikaLightcrete I-500 allows to produce very
high stable air content during the work and pumping time. The air content is
stable even after the concrete is placed
Easy production of lightweight concrete and mortar at the ready mix plants
using standard dosing equipment.

SikaLightcrete I-500 does not contain chlorides or other ingredients promoting

corrosion of steel reinforcement. It is therefore suitable for reinforced lightweight
concrete.

Consumption / Dosage

Depending on intended use, by weight of binder 0,5%2,0% (5002000 g for 100

kg binder). Exact dosage rates are dependent on quality of binder and aggregate,
water/binder ratio and ambient temperature. To adjust the required fresh concrete
density and to determine the correct mixing procedures and times, concrete trials
are recommended.

Application
Conditions/Limitations
Compatibility

SikaLightcrete I-500, may be combined with the following Sika products among
others
-Sikament and ViscoCrete series
-SikaPump
-SikaFume HR
-Sika Retarder
-Sika Ferrogard-901
-SikaFibre
Trails are recommended before combining products.

Application
Instructions
Dispensing

Lightweight aggregates must be saturated with water before preparing the concrete.
SikaLightcrete I-500 is added to the gauging water or added to the concrete mix at
the same time as the gauging water. The mixing time required to achieve a specific
density of fresh concrete depends on the type of mixer used, and the aggregates
and binder in the mix. Thus, trials are recommended to achieve the desired air
content and concrete mix. SikaLightcrete I-500 can also be added into the ready
3
mix truck on site. An additional mixing time of at least 2 minutes per m of concrete
but not less than 5 minutes must be observed. Before being discharged, the
concrete must be tested for density.

Application Method /
Tools

The standard rules of good concreting practice, concerning production as well as

placing, are to be followed. Refer to relevant standards. Fresh concrete must be
cured properly.

Cleaning of Tools

Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use.
Hardened / cured material can only be mechanically removed.

Notes on Application /
Limitations

Increased air contents generally have a detrimental effect on strengths (1%

additional air content decreases strengths 5%). This can be adequately
compensated by using Sikament or ViscoCrete.
n The amount of air pores depend on ambient and aggregate temperature,
speed and time of mix, fineness of aggregate, the type of light aggregate,
dosage and type of cement.
n It is not possible to produce frost and de-icing salt resistant concrete with

Sika Lightcrete I-500.

n SikaLightcrete I-500 should not be added to dry cement.
Before application, suitability tests must be performed.
