There are about 78% of respondents were married meanwhile 28% of respondents
were single. The marital factor may affect the solid waste generation rate. The
respondents that have married contribute more solid waste compare to single
respondents due to the increase of family member and demand of daily needs. So that
mean the frequency they used of solid waste service more than single respondents.

There are two open ended questions provided for residents. The first question we ask
about the suggestion or opinion of the residents on the best way to dispose the solid
waste. The aim of this question is to measure the knowledge of resident on solid
waste management and their ability in handling their waste. For second question we
asked about their opinion on the current solid waste management whether effective
or not and if the management need improvement and give the reason .Through this
question we can determine the issue related and measure the awareness of resident
regarding on the current solid waste management in Perhentian island. These are the
feedback from the question we have asked to residents.
Based on interviews carried out with JKKK ( high committee) , there are some of the
issues raised by the villagers related to solid waste management in the island. This
issue has been raised for a long time but still no solution played by the authorities.
Among the issue arise were related to waste collection site. According to JKKK, the
existing site is not strategic where it is located nearby the main jetty where it is the
main entrance of tourists into the island.in addition it is also close to the food stall.
This situation will have a negative effect and bad view to tourists and local people.
The open burning in the site also makes the situation become worse and this activity
may affect the health of the communities around.
