SF Victory Garden Volunteers Needed: Through Saturday, November 15, 2008
Seeking Volunteer Docents for the SF Victory Garden through 11/15/08. Docents are responsible
for answering questions, supporting the Garden Educator, and helping with daily garden
maintenance--including some weeding, watering, planting and harvesting. Ideally, volunteers
commit to either a full (9am-4:30pm) or half-day (9am-1pm or 12:30-4:30pm) on a regular
weekly schedule. Additionally, seeking a Garden Educator/Manager to volunteer on Saturdays
from 8:30am-4:30pm.

Call for Applications – 2009 Business Environmental Awards
Acterra's Business Environmental Awards recognizes businesses and organizations for
outstanding environmental leadership within the San Francisco Bay Area.
The 2009 Awards will recognize exemplary programs in the following categories: sustainability,
pollution prevention/resource conservation, commute/transportation, environmental enterprise,
sustainable built environment, and environmental & sustainability education.
If your company has demonstrated environmental leadership in one of these award categories,
you may be eligible to apply for this special recognition. The application deadline is January 30,

Don't know what to do with that old TV, computer, monitor or microwave? We will take them
off your hands - at no charge! Bring unwanted electronic equipment to one of our FREE drop-
off sites. We are Electronic Waste Management, a State-Approved collector. Our main facility
is located at 27607 Industrial Blvd. Hayward, drop off hours are Monday thru Saturday 9:00am -
3:00pm. We also have FREE drop-off in Pleasant Hill (Diablo Valley College) & San Ramon
(Diablo Valley College) the first Saturday of every month from 9am-1pm and in Pittsburg (Los
Medanos College) the third Saturday of every month from 9am - 1pm.

Announcing the Marin Children & Nature Fund
EECOM is pleased to announce that we are launching a fund to provide mini-grants to help get
kids out of doors – mini-grants can be used for transportation to take children to inspiring places
in nature, and other related direct costs incurred (i.e. teacher substitute costs).

After untangling a persistent debate about pricing greenhouse gas pollution through a carbon tax
or a cap-and-trade system, featured speaker, Dr. Hummel, will engage members of New Voice of
Business with discussion of these core questions:
--How have the designs for high-stakes climate policy proposals evolved in the last year, and
what is the latest on Capitol Hill, in the courts, and in California?
--Where are the current platforms for negotiation, and which elements in the architecture of a

Berkeley Sustainability Summit & Green Gathering: Thursday, November 20, 2008
This year, the Ecology Center and the City of Berkeley are combining the Berkeley
Sustainability Summit with the Green Gathering. The program includes a zippy series of brief
talks on local sustainability projects; delectable food from local green caterers; the Champions of
Sustainability Awards; and the opportunity to network with leaders in the local sustainability
movement. With Judy Wicks, Keynote Speaker (Co-founder of the Business Alliance for Local
Living Economies), Josh Kornbluth, Master of Ceremonies (Berkeley Energy Commissioner and

Teach-In: Food Safety Gone Astray: The Misguided War on Wildlife: Thursday,
November 20, 2008
Wild Farm Alliance will bring together national and regional experts who will demonstrate how
over-reactions and superficial fixes are threatening the sustainability of our food systems, human
health and wildlife, while identifying alternatives. Speakers will present fresh perspectives and
the latest research on critical US food safety issues since the 2006 E.coli outbreak in spinach, and
reveal how agri-business practices conducted in the name of "food safety" have caused serious
environmental harm and may in fact be counterproductive to keeping our food safe. Even before
the spinach incident, related systemic problems were brewing.

The Berkeley Farmers' Market 17th annual Holiday Crafts Fair: Saturday, December 6,

Farmers' Market (lots of organic produce) & Local craftspeople selling a wonderful variety of

The ideal candidates must be dynamic, customer-focused, environmental professional with
significant technical background and experience managing projects and multidisciplinary teams.
Project management experience, technical expertise, leadership skills, communication, and
innovation are key attributes required for success. Technical expertise in civil and environmental
engineering, groundwater, remediation and/or regulatory permitting and compliance are desired.
Candidates will lead and manage projects including planning and conducting field data
collection/audits, data interpretation, engineering design, report writing, cost estimating, and

Mid-Level Engineers, Geologists, or Environmental Scientists
The ideal candidates will support projects such as field data collection/audits, data interpretation,
engineering design, report writing, cost estimating, and project performance reporting. You will
work with multidisciplinary project teams and will be expected to provide project task level
oversight and coordination of project activities with team members. You will work with senior
project managers in planning and executing work and coordinating with project staff. 3 to 6
years of professional experience is required, preferably in environmental consulting or a related
field. Experience with execution of projects in the areas of site assessment, brownfields,
remediation, civil engineering and related environmental services. Technical expertise in
environmental engineering, field data collection, site assessment and groundwater investigations,
and regulatory permitting and compliance are desired. Candidates with direct client and

Senior Industrial Hygiene/Health and Safety Specialists:
Reno, Sacramento or Oakland/San Francisco office
The ideal candidate must have excellent knowledge of OSHA regulatory requirements in General
Industry, experience in conducting health and safety audits, development and implementation of
compliance programs, best management practices in general industry with experience in
completing human health risk assessments a major advantage. Candidate must also have hands
on experience in developing and conducting training programs in support of compliance
programs. The candidate must possess knowledge and experience in OSHA/NIOSH industrial
hygiene sampling and analytical methods and the ability to develop appropriate sampling and
monitoring protocols as new potential worker exposure scenarios arise. Experience with the
