REPORT OF THE ELECTORAL COMMITTEE


ON ASPIRANTS FOR 2016 NBA NATIONAL ELECTIONS
The Electoral Committee had earlier released the list of candidates for the
scheduled 2016 elections after a full consideration of the information/ documents
submitted by the aspirants and their nominators/seconders. A total of thirty one
(31) aspirants signified their intention to contest elections into the various offices.
Their names and their desired offices are as follows:1. PRESIDENT

Twelve (12) of the candidates were initially disqualified for failing to meet with
the conditions stipulated by the constitution of the NBA. Each of the disqualified
candidates was notified in writing through letters wherein their respective grounds
of disqualification were stated.
2.1

The candidates were also notified of their right to appeal against the
decision of the ECNBA within seven (7) days of the date of receipt of their
respective disqualification letters. Of the twelve, only ten (10) appealed.

2.2

Before the expiration of the seven (7) days, the committee reminded the
disqualified aspirants from whom no appeal had been received by the sixth
(6th) day, of the need to do so within time if they so desired.

QUALIFIED CANDIDATES

(Initially disqualified for non-submission of the Bar Practicing
Fees and Branch Dues payment receipts/tellers respectively for
2014 of his nominator. Copies of both receipts were subsequently
submitted with his letter of appeal. ECNBA considered his appeal
based on the documents which were then before the committee and
he was consequently cleared).

(b) 1st Vice President

(Initially disqualified because he failed to attach a credible copy
of the Bar Practicing Fee receipt/teller of his nominator for 2014.
Satisfactory proof thereof was subsequently submitted with his
appeal, based on which he was cleared by ECNBA.

(Only opponent withdrew in writing from the contest. Now unopposed)

(Based on adverse report from her branch in the secretariat by
which a candidate she sponsored for the branch election was
disqualified due to the non production of her receipt for payment of
the 2015 branch dues, she was initially disqualified. Her
explanation on appeal that her branch later cleared the said
candidate who eventually contested the branch election and won
was adjudged to be satisfactory, the receipt for payment of the

2015 branch due adjudged to be credible and she was consequently


cleared).

GROUNDS
Disqualified for being in paid employment of The Nation Newspapers rather
than full private law practice. He provided contradictory and unsatisfactory
documents on appeal in an attempt to show that he is in full and private legal
practice as stipulated by the extant NBA Constitution.

Desired Office:- Financial Secretary.
GROUNDS
Branch dues for 2016 not paid as and when due.

Mr. Nnadeti Anas


Desired Office:- 2nd Assistant Secretary.
GROUNDS
Was unable to submit his Bar Practicing Fees Receipt/teller for 2014.
Rather, submitted 2013 (outside 3 year period prescribed), 2015 and 2016.
